After learning about flies that mimic bees (through some rigorous favorites folder taxonomy), I've had my first photo opportunity!
Encountered this one outside my apartment on my roommates' aging fire pit today. I think this might be some kind of drone fly? Again, I'm always down for people helping me confirm one way or the other.

EDIT:
Got a tip that this is most likely Helophilus Fasciatus, also known as the "narrow-headed marsh fly" (according to a Google search I did on the Latin name).
