I took a deep breath. I could do this. I am Kyoni. I am the Johto league champion. I beat Lance, the dragon master. I am going to beat Red. The Red. I could do this.
I stepped off the S.S. Aqua and onto Kanto. I could do this. I breathed in the sea air. It smelled like home. Like Olivine City. I walked down the dock into Vermillion city. All around me sailors and fishers moved busily about loading the ship, unloading the ship. It was unclear what all they were doing. I tilted my head up scanning the crowds of people along the beach for the one face I needed to see.
He saw me first. "Kyoni!" I turned to see the smiling face of professor Oak.
"Professor." I acknowledged
"Have you got all your things?"
"Yes" I smiled.
"Excellent," he began "Shall we go to my lab then?" I nodded.
From my bag I pulled out an ultra ball and threw it up in the air. The ball popped open and a piercing, but beautiful screech rang out as my Skarmory, Nyx, appeared in front of me. "Shall we fly professor?" He Smiled.
"That's quite an impressive pokemon, Kyoni."
"You think so?" I said pulling an oran berry out of my pocket and held out to Nyx, who eyed it, then me, then ate it quickly. I knelt down next to her and she nudged me.
"And it looks very comfortable with you." I smiled up at him again, and climbed onto Nyx's back. From his pocket Oak brought out a pokeball and clicked it open just as I had done, and before him stood a pidgeot.
"Just follow me, Kyoni" He said mounting the bird and taking off into the sky.
"Come on Nyx!" I held on tightly as she stretched out her wings and leaped into the air.
The wind in my face, and flopping my long dyed green hair around never felt so good! About an hour later Oak landed in a small town in front of a big building I guessed was his lab.
"Thanks Nyx!" I said as she landed gently on the grass next to Oak.
"Kyoni, welcome to my lab" He said to me as I pulled Nyx back into her ball. He led me inside, and into a room where two people were standing. The first was a girl, maybe about sixteen with flaming orange hair pulled into a ponyta tail on the side of her head. Her eyes were a beautiful sea green. The other was a guy, that looked about nineteen, my age. He had tan skin, dark brown hair that was spiked up, and thin eyes. He was handsome, at least to me, people had told me I had strange taste in guys.
"Meet Brock and Misty," Oak said gesturing toward the two. "They have been all throughout Kanto and Johto, and will be accompanying you on your trip."
"Hi!" The girl- Misty, said smiling and giving me a shy wave. I was about to say hi and wave back when suddenly Brock was at my side, grasping my hand.
"Please!" He said " I must know the name of this beauty before me!"
"Its Kyoni!" I said jerking my hand away. Misty was now at his side pulling hard on his ear.
"Sorry," Misty said, pulling even harder on his ear. "He is always like this, around any girl sixteen or older." My face probably was redder than her hair.
"Misty," Oak said. "well and everyone else I have a surprise for you."  Oak stepped away from the door reveling another person. He had very messy black hair that he had crammed under a hat. His eyes a chocolate brown.
Misty gasped. "Ash!" She rushed toward him, toward his outstretched arms. She attacked him with a hug, so hard he almost fell over. He hugged her back, tightly.
"Hey Mist." He said softly.
"Ash..." Misty whispered. "I've missed you so much..."
"I missed you too..." he said stroking her flaming hair. "More than you know..." Misty made a choking noise. Was she crying?
Ash looked up and saw everyone else watching and immediately let go of her, and stepped back. I now saw Misty was crying.
"Same as always Ash!" She said angrily, and gave him a hard punch. This made no sense. Were they not just embracing eachother?
"Ash also will be coming with you on your journey through Kanto, and maybe even through Hoenn and Sinnoh if you so wish.
"Sinnoh!" Misty gaped. "Ash you went all the way, to Sinnoh?!"
"And Unova..." He replied.
"Unova! Ash you really needed to send me a letter once in a while!"  Ash shrugged.
"I didn't think you cared."
"OF COURSE I CARED!" Misty fumed.
Brock laughed. "Get used to the drama, beautiful, your gonna be stuck with it."
