The line is based on aquatic primates, and on human evolution. It's also based on mermaids, and the Aquatic Ape Theory. Which is a theory that basically tries to proves the existance of mermaids by stating they evolved from a common land dwelling human ancestor. But the theory isn't a theory that should be taken seriously, I just thought it would be a pretty cool concept.
