I look at the match, worried for my life. This isn’t my body, it belongs to a random kid who approached me. His question was simple, “Want to swap bodies for a game each?” I agreed to it, and in the blink of an eye I was looking up at my body. I couldn’t believe it, and nor could the kid. Apparently this was the first time he had ever done a body swap. Something I doubt considering how normal he is acting like an adult he has never met before.

The reason I’m worried is that the kid doesn’t want to turn back, and it shows. He forced me to agree that if ‘his’ team won the match, he would keep my body and I would keep his. He had blindsided me, if I told them about the body swap then I’d be crazy, among other things. So I had little choice.

I watch as the kid in my body scores another goal. The memories of my adult life run through my mind. Am I about to lose that life I had worked so hard for? Through so much shit, from nothing to living luxuriously. The thought makes my stomach churn and I run to the bathroom. In the bathroom, I try to think of a way to fool this kid. He is only a kid after all. I sit down on the toilet, pondering what to do. A few minutes later: the idea comes to mind.

I step out of the bathroom and back into the grandstand. Only to find the game has finished and nobody is around. My eyes look up at the scoreboard and my heart sinks. My team had not just won, they dominated.

A few minutes of confused and disbelieving searching later. An adult's voice calls out a name my body has an automatic response to. I turn around and find a relatively young blonde woman walking towards me. It takes all my self-control not to run. Before I know it, I’m in her car.

Turns out she’s ‘my’ big sister and my legal guardian. My name is Max and, to my horror, my first day at a new school starts tomorrow. I guess it could be worse, at least I don’t have to act like Max. I can become the kid I always wanted to be, and not the one I was. My eyes glimpse my former black Mercedes-Brabus C63 drive by. My old body behind the wheel, complete with my family. I feel my heart sink at the thought of never seeing them again in about a week, when I was planning to move interstate.

A quiet sigh leaves my mouth. I’ve been through this before, and at least now I’m not completely unprepared. My sister turns to me and says, “I know you’re nervous about tomorrow. But it’ll be fine. Just be yourself.” A smile forms on my face, this kid has a caring family. Something I never had as a kid.
