Description I was taking pictures of my friend on Stephen Ave this afternoon when this street person approached me to take his photo. He said "I'm gonna be famous. I'll be the next Prime Minister or die on the street, either way I'll be remembered." So he wants me to bring him a print to the bridge where he lives so he can sign it, "because it'll be worth something one day."

this made me smile
it also made my day
it's simple and complicated
and carries it's own depth, one without a brand
the stories of a man so experienced and weathered.
it reminds me of my grandfather
thank you

That's somewhat comical, and somewhat sad. But this portrait is stunning and incredibly moving.

Holy Smokes. I think the way the dof worked out is great - to me, the beard, the cap, the hood all together look like they make up a shield held out in front of him - its like those dark, slightly out of focus eyes are buried and protected deep inside his own cave. With lines like that on his face, he looks like he's living a hard life. I've known guys his age that live on the street. And by that age, they're usually pretty tough - they know how to get what they need to survive. What they never get is attention and a smile from someone from the normal world. What they never tell you is that they still remember what it was like to have a teenage crush, they still remember some younger day when they felt like the normal world was a place where they belonged. I bet you made him feel pretty important by taking that photo - and gave him a whole lot of good feelings that he will come back to and live off for a long time. And what a photo!

Wow, thank you so much for the amazing comment. I never really thought that I may have made him feel important, it puts a new slant on it for me. Thanks for looking at this photo and feeling something, I appreciate it so much!

you're welcome. But really, we ought to be thanking you - you did such a great job here. Reminds me of a guy I knew once (when he wasn't Inside).

BTW, sorry to hear about the whole deathchicks thing You seem like a nice person, I hope that someday you can join the Lightness, Ethereal Happiness & OH MY GOD I GOT A GREAT LIFE group!

cheers, D

Hahahaha! I know, I don't know what I was thinking with the deathchicks thing. There's nothing wrong with them, I just think I'm kind of the antithesis of deathchicks or suicidegirls and so on. They approached me to be a member and I was like, ah sure what the heck. I can be raunchy and sexy! But I tried and just couldn't. Haha.

And thanks again for appreciating the photo

sorry about razzing you over deathchicks - I just thought you should be a happychick but I agree, why not try different stuff out - we all have to do that through life. I don't know about raunchy & sexy but I've seen your photos, and you've seen the comments you get - I don't think you have to worry too much about meeting the edgy & sexy criteria! Which is maybe a better thing to be anyway....

I know that typically in photos like this people want the focus to be on the eyes... but here I can see how powerful the photo can be even without that.
You know... this is quite possibly the first time I've really wanted a print of something. I've been sitting here and stairing at this photos for atleast two minutes now... and I got goosebumps... literally.

That back-story only adds to how moving the picture is.

There's always something special about captured moments that weren't remotely planned for
and essencially spur-of-the-moment type of situations.

His beard is perfectly scragly and wind-blown.
