Chapter 4: Into the Vortex Dimension

When Aqua and Adurna woke up, they realized that they weren't in the same place. At first glance, it seemed like an endless desert. However, when their eyes fully adjusted, they seen a huge gateway with terrifying demons circling the two individuals in the air.

???: I see you're finally awake.

They gaze upon a vulture with a mechanized arm sitting on a rock.

???: So, what are you after???

The pair blinked their eyes and analyzed the area. Though Aqua and Adurna appear vulnerable, they we're ready to counter should anything attacks them.

They stood up and went towards the vulture. After hearing the question, Aqua listens to Adurna's telepathic suggestion not to answer truthfully at first.

Aqua: What are we after? I rather find the answer to the question as to why you're so ugly. Of course, if you don't mean us any harm, then I'll forget about my previous statement. Afterwards, my next objective will be to find out why you have a metal arm? In fact, you're a bird. How do you have an arm in the first place? So, long story short, we're looking for answers. If you give them to us honestly and take us back to where we were, then everything will be fine and nobody will get hurt.

The vulture was not amused, to say the least.

???: Hmmph! You got a smart mouth.

He snaps his fingers and the demons have their targets marked.

???: If you don't mind, I'll be askin' the questions around here. Keep bein' a smartass and you'll end up dinner.

Aqua: At least I have a smart ass, you dumbass.

"This guy's starting to piss me off," the vulture thought to himself. He regains his composure and rephrased his question.

???: Hmm? I guess my previous question was a little vague, so I'll be more concise. What I meant to say was, "What are you after with Rabby and Rachel Supernova???"

Aqua was kinda confused at first. "How does he know of those two?" he asks himself. Aqua takes a thinking stance, but in reality, he's having a mental conversation with Adurna.

Aqua: This sure brings back memories. I missed doing this stuff with you.

Adurna: I hope being the URL's CEO over the past ten years hasn't weakened your skills.

Aqua: Adurna,. now is not the time to reawaken old wounds. You know how much pain being separated from you caused me... and I know that it was even worse for you.

Aqua was right on the money. Adurna's heart was a lot more tranquil when she was near her rider. She starts to refocus on their current status and sees the demons flying overhead.

Adurna: These creatures are fools if they think they can make dinner out of a dragon.

Aqua: You got that right. I suggest you take human form in order to provide a smaller target.

Adurna: No, I will not hide behind flesh before these demons. You will climb back onto my saddle and we will ride again.

Aqua: Alright! We'll do it your way. It might be fun, but you gotta pray we can use magic in this place, otherwise I'll have a tougher time protecting you.

This pleases Adurna. The thought of soaring into the air with Aqua gives her an indescribable feeling of joy. Getting back to the bird's question, Aqua gives a reply.

Aqua: Well, we want to help them. Why? Because it's our job birdbrain, and if you had any common sense, you would know that helping people is way more logical and personally satisfying. Besides, the Catastrophe made things personal when it tried corrupting us like that. Nobody should ever pull anything like that on us, because bad things happen to those who try. I think the reason it attacked us like that was because Rachel knew what we were doing and therefore the Catastrophe knew as well and defended itself. The only way we might be able to learn anything is to separate Rabby from Rachel, temporarily block their mental link so she can't read his mind and then dive into his memories without her knowing what's going on.

???: Heh...hehe...

The bird gave a loud outburst of laughter after hearing that Aqua and Adurna are trying to get back at the Catastrophe.

???: Do you think that you're a threat to the Catastrophe??? Now who's the dumbass? In your current state you can't even hold a candle to it. The very fact that it took you over so easily proves that. However, I can see that you both have a considerable amount of skill. Also, even though that you have an obnoxious attitude, your actions are noble and your words are filled with truth.

Though his face doesn't show it, he's happy for the fact that Rachel and Rabby have a few more allies.

Vortex: I guess I should introduce myself. I am Vortex. One of Rabby's old war buddies. I'm good friends with him and his sister and would kill anyone instantly who will try to do either of them harm. Sorry if I came off like a pompous ass, but I had to test you as to where you stand with them. I was watching you people from afar, and saw what happened with you two. I thought you had an evil agenda for the Supernovas and decided to bring you here to kill you off, but it seems I jumped the gun and want to apologize for it.

Vortex gives a hand gesture with his mechanical hand to tell the circling demons to stand down. Then, he holds out his non-mechanical hand out for a handshake.

Vortex: If permitted to, I'll try to help you with whatever information I can give you. Let's shake on it.
