The X-3 was possibly the inspiration for the F-104. The X-3 went supersonic in a dive, much faster than 400mph.

i thought that the stiletto was an expirimental aircraft designed to break the speed of sound by using the lowest profile airframe. and it utterly failed cause it only had a top speed of about 400 mph. still a great piece of art though great job
