Carl and Sarah, who would become lovers when older, grew up on the opposite side of the earth and had totally different life styles. They were, however, unhappy with their lives as children.

Sarah Stately was born to a wealthy family in England, however her childhood was anything but happy. Her parnets were always fighting and bickering, and they wanted the kids to pick sides. Sarah sided with her father, however, when they divorced, she was forced to live with her mother. She was unhappy for most of the year, only happy when she could be with her father. Sarah was sent to the best private schools in England. she did well in school, being one of the smartest children in her school. She excelled at certain sports, her favorites being Bad mitten, and Volleyball. Sarah would have had a promising life if she went to college, however she decided that she wanted to do law enforcement.

Carl Nadez, on the other hand, grew up in poverty, living with his widowed mom, and his older, dominating sister. Carl spent more time outside then in school, and was known as a something of a punk. before being a teenager, he was notrious for playing soccer without shoes, as he didn't own a pair, at least a pair he didn't want to ruin. When he was 13, he joined a gang. He was in it for three years, until his sister got him out, punching out the gangleader. Carl dropped out of high school and joined in the military, to get away from it all. While in the army, he learned alot, and even had a surrogate father figure, General Baxter. He matured greatly in the army, however he had a horrible experience that would ruin his outlook on it late in his second tour. He then joined a mercenary company run by Baxter's close friend, Decker. While working with Decker, he ran into Interpol agent Sarah Stately, and the romance began.
