Description
Previously on the goblin Changeling:
The last cart and the last wagon where finally loaded. Grains and weapons for the new Goblin King.
But this wasn’t a tribute from the March of Passage to the goblins clans of the mountains of the Dargoina: instead, it was a show of strength by the Marquis and his ambitions for tutelage over the new Goblin King, and gaining an ally across the pass of Cirene, to serve as a future buffer.
Because the goblins had been utterly defeated. Their armies had to relinquish their loot and weapons to be left to escape, and their chieftains where held hostage:
Now the marquis –keeping the gold, silver and more valuable plunder- was giving instead some cheap grain taxed from his own subjects and part of the weapons that had been previously been already of the goblins:
Given to his new subject –the King Tullok Stealbeard-, this couple of wagons loaded with weapons and grains would give the new Goblin King a needed leverage to assert his “royal authority” over his own more unruly “subjects”, who could be foreseen would protest a king crowned in a human castle, that promised loyalty to a human.
But as humans didn’t believe much in the word of Goblins, about three dozens of rowdy human mercenaries where to escort the wagons –and the king-. Supposedly a “Kings Guard”, while enforcing the authority of Stealbeard to the other goblins, it was clear that they were to keep in check not only the subjects of Tullok, but on Tullok himself.
As all was ready to depart, the Goblin King stood with his retinue as the Marquis of Passage inspected the soon to depart caravan, made up by the liberated –and just baptized- goblin chieftains and their closest retainers.
The Marquis was clearly in a good mood. He only demanded the goblins to return some of the fine silver cutlery, deciding to ignore other of the transgressions of the chieftains. If he wanted to keep their favour, he could pass on most of what they had pawned as they prepared to leave his castle.
Sebastien stood nervously among the other goblins. He was told he was now considered a royal advisor to Tullok, yet he didn’t feel like it was going to be an honour in any way.
He saw by the side of the Marquis the vicar of the castle of Cirene. He did a quick bow to him. He was the one to blame for all of this misfortune, or so Sebastien thought bitterly. It seems that all these years ago, when he first came to the Castle of Passage to get him to sign a recommendation letter, he impressed the Vicar a bit too much with his skills… for he gave the vicar the idea of converting the Goblins into subjects of Passage.
“Good travel, King Tullok” said the Marquis to the petty goblin King.
Tullok looked at the Marquis for a while in silent. Then he bowed with his head and turned around…
He turned to the Pass of Cirene. To the Dargoina Mountains and the lands of the Goblins. To Polforia, and the lands of Demons.
And Sebastien was to follow him around.
The little changeling monk swallowed uncomfortably.
