"This is the PERFECT Cub!" said proudly the mother, as she cradled her baby in her arms, showing his newborn to the others in the court in the royal barracks in Derei, house to the Lionhead Guard, the royal guard of Degoland made up by Loranor cat-people of one of the Leonid tribes.

While some of the other women nodded approvingly, making compliments to the mother and the child, other of the woman looked down at the creature dismissively. The mother saw that and growled a bit, well knowing why she was looking down at her. Arrogant pure-blood bastard, the mother thought.

Hearing the growl, rather than to back down, the other Leonid woman doubled her attitude.

"Perfect? Don't you see the child is all wrong, everywhere? She doesn't even have the right form of head! How could she be a huntress, without a snout?"

"Like you would know how to be a huntress" the mother hissed. "As far I know, you hadn't ever left the courtyard!" Their parents and grandparents had been nomad warriors and mercenaries, who had been hired by human kings. They instead, had been born in the human kingdoms. Some of them preferred to keeping to themselves in the royal barracks rather than to intermingling with others of the subjects of the Kings of Degoland. Others found instead the walls of the barracks too constraining, and went beyond the royal barracks of the city of Derei.

A Leonid pride was being a hunter. She touched a sensible string with that comment.

Furious, the other woman growled.

"It's better that, than to go around muddling your blood with humans." she said, looking with disgust at the half-blood baby.

The mother had enough. She asked one of her cousins -sweetly- if she could hold her baby for a moment. Then, she calmly rolled her sleeves...

and jumped over the other Leonid woman.

In general, most of the mercenaries when they first arrived to Degoland where single males -and who would look for female companions either among humans or the elves of Degoland-, quickly mixing their blood with the locals. But others would bring along some of the women of their tribes.
