SOOOOOO CUTE!! WHY Steven Universe?! You're breaking my heart with all your cuteness!! XDBut I have a question. What is the deal with the Gems being so young?! They're gems they don't age!
There is this one picture from the Episode "So many Birthdays" img4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20…
This picture was taken hundreds of years ago and they weren't any younger than now. So why are they so young in this episode?
Don't get me wrong I simply love the Gems in their young age. I'm just a little confused :3

I don't think the gems are "young" I do think they grow very slowly though. Amatyst is the only one to really "age" and even then, the come out different every time their bodies are destroyed. So maybe they "age" everytime they change?

I don't think so. Amethyst is a shape-shifter. But still, that's something to think about and in some ways, makes a bit of sense.

Age is a state of mind for gemkind. How "young" or "old" they act is generally based on maturity.

They appear smaller because Rose is there. She's 8 ft tall, which makes Garnet look shorter, therefore making the rest look a hell of a lot smaller as well. The hair differences also make them appear younger. They might've been drawn slightly smaller though, due to artist error perhaps? They weren't supposed to be smaller. & if it's not artist error, keep in mind that they change in appearance every time they retreat to their gems, so it's 100% possible they "grew" a bit when retreated.
Their behavior is "younger" too because Rose was around to assume responsibility. She took charge at the time, so they were a little more loose with behavior. Also, they were a lot happier. Right now, they're more serious bc 1) their leader is gone & they have to raise a child, who has little knowledge on gem stuff & life itself. They have to be his teacher. & 2) because they're still grieving the loss of Rose. Time is different for them & the grieving process will probably be a lot longer than any humans grieving process, even more so because of how long they knew Rose.
So yeah, I hope that clears things up!

Yes.. I gave this theme a lot of thoughts and figured out for myself that it's obvious that the gems and Greg seem smaller when their around Rose. We've only seen the view from Steven this whole time. Figures..

About your question, the Gems' age depends on their mental/psychological age. Losing Rose would make them mature very quickly.

Creo que es en general aunque a Jasper y a Peridot les parecía algo sumamente desagradable y hasta indigno.
La ironía es que los planes de Jasper no salieron como ella esperaba y ahora Lapis es la dominante en la fusión.

I think their age might just be the result of their new outfits and being seen next to Rose...they're actually the same size as usual. But yeah, it's kind of odd.

They change their physical form at will, remember? The clothes make them look younger. And they can change their outfits however they want. ^U^
