I've been playing Dragon Age a lot lately and I'm almost done with Awakening. The best thing about that game/add-on is definitely Anders and Ser Pounce-A-Lot, hands down. (I haven't started DA2 yet but I've seen enough material to decide that I want to pretend DA2 Anders doesn't exist.)I wanted to do a small fanart speedpaint but I got a bit carried away. This was a very relaxing piece to do and I really enjoyed the painting technique I used.

Thanks! I've been focusing backgrounds lately and I'm planning to do some scenery stuff in the future and focus less on the characters appearing in the pictures.

Anders was my favourite companion character in Awakening but then he was changed completely and I hated him in DA2. He was a crazy, blind fanatic who whined constantly and did a really, really stupid thing. There was nothing left of the old Anders that I liked. I was glad I had the option to kill him.

I recommend it. Awakening is short but there's some fun stuff.
Anders was actually nice for a while in DA2 and I almost gave him a chance but then he took a big turn to worse and I was like "Nope, you blew your chance". The reason why he did what he did is kinda understandable but when you play Awakening you'll probably notice how different the two Anders' are. For some part DA2 made sense but for the most part no. It's understandable that Justice would change him but there's still a lot that doesn't feel right.

Thanks! Good times indeed. DA2 wasn't as good as Origins but there was a lot to enjoy anyway, even if it went wrong in..well, quite a lot of things.

"Into Dragon Age" is a vast understatement. That series stole my life and I'm so mad I can't get Inquisition until I get a new computer which is probably in a billion years. *sob*

hahah, currently in the same boat (computer went kaput so I'm having to use my sister's), but I got it for both console and PC though, so I'll be able to get my fix till I can afford getting a new computer.

My first game (that was an epic mess) was a Dalish rogue and the one I played recently was with a city elf rogue. I really like to main with a rogue character but I think I might make a real asshole mage for my next playthrough.

Both in the game and the headcanon. I don't know if I want to kick anyone out. Well, maybe Leliana (once she's sang that song) and Ohgren that stinky bag. The rest I'll just keep around and make sure they at least tolerate me. I think I'd try to become besties with Sten and Morrigan. Zevran maybe. Alistair and Wynne will have to stay and just take it. This is my initial plan but it will probably change. I'll play the events as they come. I haven't tried any other origins that the elves so the mage bg is fine.

I do agree with @derkomai3523 that the head looks like it's turned too far, but the rotation of the hand looks fine to me. The hand's anatomy is a bit off, though. The shape of the thumb is off, and the placement of the fingers is a bit unnatural. The fingers should hang loosely and naturally, but they seem a bit stiff here? We should also be able to see the triangular shape of the palm opposite the thumb as well. I'm... not the best at explaining it, so found some stock photos that might explain it better:

That last one could work as a 1:1 reference. Hands are difficult, so I always take photos of my own hands to use for reference when I have to draw them. |D

His face is only turned a hair too far IMO, but it's mostly the lack of neck wrinkles and the fact that he's turning his head down that makes it look off. When you turn your head like that, you can only turn it horizontally. If you try to raise/lower your head while you're also turning it that far, it can hurt.

Hands are indeed really difficult to draw but I try to get better at it. Also, I completely forgot that there would be neck wrinkles. Tells something about the lack of good references (or the lack of references used altogether).
But these reference images are really good. It really makes me want to create something similar to this piece and try again. Maybe at some point I will.

Pretend the whole game (DA2) doesn't exist.. you will be happier just replaying Origins on a different approach.

Even if I'd love to replay Origins over and over again I want to play DA2 as well. I know it divides opinions, some like it and some hate it. I don't really like the idea of playing as Hawke but well. I spent money on it so I might as well get through it once so I can get the data on Inquisition when it comes out.

It's not so much bad, as it is just a sad disappointment. If you're playing on the PC, you can dig nexusmods for some improvements to make it a bit more tolerable.

I see. Well, I can understand how it can be a disappointment. I absolutely loved DAO so DA2 probably won't keep up the standard. My computer is so old it probably can't handle much mods but thanks for the tip anyway!

I'm not able to do that, but I can still observe:
Shadings are quite good, but head and left hand rotation are seriously a problem.
My neck hurts for him and we whould see the back side of his hand.
The cat has a strange head, but the fur is very impressive!
And except some base sketch position problems, the overall picture quality is quite homogeneus!
A shame I have no time to train, cause you improves contently and well!

I'm trying to draw more humans and practise anatomy and I noticed quite a few problems as well, same as you did, too. This is the best I could do atm but I'm trying to work to get better. I didn't quite get the "see the back of his hand" because when I stand normally my palm points more in the same direction as my back.
I didn't really understand the base sketch position problem bit either. If you mean that you're able to see some sketch traces that was an intentional call. I just wanted this to be a loose painting and nothing too refined so I didn't bother covering everything. I quite like a little sketchy look.

no, I meant that this is during the sketches that positions are fixed.
for hands, they are a bit turned backward but not so much. the natural pose is abitually most palm towards hips, so they can turn back or front...
after, these hands are always so hard to draw! lol

I did try to fix some stuff but drawing humans gives me hard (especially hands) time so I didn't do very good job with the fixing.
