A Pokemon team commission for , a full Eeveelution team (without Eevee) in a forest scenery.I really, really enjoyed working on this one. I'm really grateful I got so much freedom with this one, mainly with the bg and with the style. I accidentally came up with a new shading style that looked nice to me and that was very easy and pleasant to create. I'm so glad I got a permission to use this style instead of the regular cell shading. I think this style fits much better, too. I might do more pictures and offer commissions in this style in the future!
The background was a ton of fun to do, too. It's been a while since I've painted anything digitally. Or drawn anything so GREEN.
Anyway, I haven't drawn a full Eeveelution picture in ages. I've only done it once, in Japanese style, so it was kinda neat to get to do an updated version. Virgel bred a perfect female Eeveelution team and wanted a picture of it. Here are the names of his Eevees:
Vaporeon: Levy
Jolteon: Lux
Flareon: Flavia
Espeon: Aurora
Umbreon: Vanadis
Leafeon: Fearne
Glaceon: Elsa
Sylveon: Mavis

My most favorite pokemon line! Ah... I love that you actually gave Vaporeon no fur! So many people draw it with fur, but if they paid attention to the artwork, they'd notice it doesn't!

Yeah I think it would make more sense if Vapoeron didn't have fur or had a seal like skin or something since it's an aquatic creature.

That's your interpretation. Until an official source says so I will interpret them as hybrids. That's more interesting.

Espeon might be based on a nekomata but that doesn't make all the rest felines nor exclude the hybrid interpretation on even Espeon. Also, I don't really understand where this is coming from, especially since in this picture I tried to NOT make them strictly any species to keep it neutral enough for the commissioner.

It's clear that you have your own opinion on this but please don't shove it to people's faces like this. It's okay to have debates about the subject of interpretation, but please choose a better place for it. Someone's artwork is not a place for it unless the creator asks for it. This very piece here is a commissioned artwork and bluntly put, I couldn't care less if it doesn't fit in your headcanon. The commissioner was happy with the work and that is all that matters to me. I would advice you to refrain from doing this again.
Also, it would be good if you practised your argumentation skills. That journal entry was heavily opinionated and didn't inspect the matter from a wide enough angle, giving it a feeling of cherry picking.

Y'know, I have to say, I've never been much of an eeveelution fan. The family never came off as that interesting to me. That said, I love this piece. Just the background alone, my goodness. It's so... magical! All those little toadstools lining the trunks of every tree along with the little curly sprouts of moss, making this forest seem like a domain of the fairies, and the sun filtering through those branches, my word. Such a tendering sight. The designs are pretty good as well, I must say. I especially like Levy and Fearne. I tend to favour vaporeon in terms of drawings at least because more than the others, it's more than just a coloured fox, it's a mer-fox. The fins look really cool, and Levy's downcast expression and withered fins give her a particularly distinct personality. Fearne is probably my favourite here because I love the roots growing out from her paws. That's something I've never seen on a leafeon before and gives it an extra level of flavour that gives it a definite, much-needed dash of spice to its look. Really love this peaceful, serene forest scene (well as serene as it can be with that crabby-looking umbreon around anyway).Β

Same here. Eeveelutions have never really been my favourites and I can't relate to people who go all nuts over them. I only really like Espeon, Umbreon and Vaporeon and the rest are just okay, nothing more. But I guess it's the general cutesy flavour that appeals to people, as well as Eevee being the only Pokemon with so many different evolutions. It's some kind of special snowflake. But if anything, mostly all the cutesy stuff makes me want to puke so no, I'm not really a big fan of the family either.
Also, I don't think Eeveelutions are foxes. They are not canines nor felines, although in my eyes they have more feline characteristics in my eyes. I have always seen them as a species of their own, some kind of odd mixture between a fennec fox and a wild cat or something. Since the evolved forms are so different from each other they don't just share the same base but they are different from each other more than colour-wise and I tried to feature their differences here as well through my interpretations.

If it's not an official statement it's not a fact. PokeWikia, Serebii and Bulbapedia and the likes are all fan databases that may or may also have unofficial statements. But out of all, Bulbapedia usually has most reasonable data. For instance, on Espeon they have the following: "Espeon appears to be based on legend of theΒ nekomata , also known as bake-neko, which are mysterious, intelligent, fork-tailed goblin cats. It additionally resembles aΒ carbuncle , a Latin-American mythological beast which had a jewel on its forehead. It also has traits ofΒ caracals ,Β sphynx cats ,Β lynxes , andΒ fennec foxes ." All plausible origins of which none are confirmed or unconfirmed.
I believe that many Pokemon, actually, most of them, are not based on one creature alone but several different ones, of which one may be more prominent that others. I find it way more interesting to investigate the possibility of a Pokemon being a unique mix of different traits and characteristics than being strictly one existing creature or the other.

I like dogs, too, and they're often a familiar and better-liked subject so I can't blame anyone for liking them. I wouldn't say they're not special, they're just everywhere.
