Description
[On Tumblr]A Pokemon team commission outside of dA. This team was the commissioner's Gen 5 OU Sun team before Genesect was banned.
The held items: Ninetales - leftovers, Dugtrio - focus sash, Genesect - choice scarf, Victini - Choice band, Venusaur - life orb, Xatu - rocky helmet
It was really fun to do a team picture again. Looking back my style, technique and pretty much everything has changed but I think it's all going in a good direction. I hope the picture isn't too dark for all screens. The commissioner wanted a bit darker shading style so I did so.
Also, I took some liberties with Genesect's design. Since Nintendo has this weird fashion of making bug Pokemon 4-legged instead of 6 I added an extra pair of legs on Genesect. Same thing with the wings. Genesect originally doesn't have those, but I wanted to add a pair of very transparent and subtle wings because, well, it can fly after all and considering Genesect's anatomy to me it would make sense if it had wings.
The commissioner approved of everything, of which I'm happy, and I'm personally happy how this turned out!

fantastic as usual! I think Dugtrio is my favourite here -- and I don't like Dugtrio! (never use it, either)
furthermore, I really enjoy your take on Genesect. I wish for the love of entomologists everywhere that Nintendo/GameFreak would STOP desiging bug types with terrible insect anatomy, from missing legs (Leavanny!!!), to extra wings (I'm looking at you, Volcarona... I still love it, though). so to say I'm really happy with your Genesect "redesign" would be an understatement. I love Bug Pkmn in general (though prior to Gen V, almost none were useful in battles, generally speaking).
lastly, I've always liked the idea of a Sun Team (since I use lots of Grass and Fire) but never seem to get around to it, lol. I don't care for Ninetales, which has a lot to do with it. Sunny Day + Heat Rock is just... not as efficient time-wise as Drought ability. much like using Magic Coat in place of Espeon, Xatu's and Mega Sableye's Magic Bounce... either use those mons or don't use Magic Coat, honestly.

if ninetales has drought, it should be holding the Heat rock to extend Drought duration.

This was in Gen 5 when Drizzle/Sandstorm/Drought/Snow Warning lasted forever or until the weather was changed by another effect.

You've still got the knack for sure! This team is wicked! Just look at them all bathe in those glorious rays. This is just too cool.
Neat take on venusaur. It looks kind of horned toadish, which is an interpretation I've thought of before, but venusaur's probably the most amphibious of its line (mammalian ears aside). That horrific hiss is just great, it looks ready to swallow its opponent up! Ninetales and xatu are as well done as any bird and canine I've seen from you, that is, fantastic, and I very much approve of your interpretation of genesect! It looks like a vicious wasp that nobody ought to mess with! I don't think I've seen an insect with facial scales before, is there any kind that has those? Pretty cool dugtrio as well. Great big ol' moley paws there. Victini's probably my favourite. That "you're going down" death glare is appropriately winsome. What move is it using here? I'm loving the conjuring of smoke/flames with a flick of its paw there.

We all know that Xatu can be an asshole, but I love your version of it so bad, coloured it is even better xD All of this looks awesome, Dugtrio is a bit disturbing though, look at that faces XD And Genesect has more sense that way, it don't seems a machine here.

I never thought of Genesect as a machine. Sure it has some machine like qualities, but those were added onto the Pokemon by Team Plasma. Otherwise Genesect is just an ancient bug Pokemon that had an unfortunate fate in the hands of men.

Backgrounds like this are generally very easy and fast to do. I usually just slap 1-3 textures on the bg, set a nice bckground colour, play around with Phothosop layer modes, hue/saturation adjustments etc and maybe paint something myself. When I get the look that I want I just refine it, fix if there is anything to be fixed and so. It's simple but hard to explain and has several steps. But in a nutshell I just play around with textures, colour, adjustments and layer modes.
