On TumblrHow To Train Your Dragon 2 fanart seems to be everywhere right now but here's one more! I, too, saw the movie and I was inspired to draw fanart of it. This piece is inspired by a certain scene (I know the ice isn't that crystalline in the movie but i wanted to do it like that). Toothless is such a lovely dragon and I liked him in the movie. I did enjoy the movie in general, it was pretty and entertaining although there are some things I wish were different/done better/differently. I won't go into detail.
Also, a few days ago my favourite drawing inks were on sale so I went and bought the inks I needed to complete my collection. I'm still missing a few but I think I can do without. This work has been done entirely with inks. Expect more ink art from me soon!
I think some of the values are a bit off and some parts aren't breathing enough. I can partly blame having very bad light to work with. The rest can be blamed on my need to practise with inks.
Anyway, I hope you like it!

I use mostly Winsor & Newton drawing inks, the paper depends on what I do. If I paint I use watercolour paper (at least 200mg, either Canson or Winsor&Newton, whichever I happen to have), if I just draw (using a dip pen) I use Canson Bristol paper.

The movie will only release this Wednesday in France... I hope there'll be original version showing, I'm too used to the English voices... And god, the names in French are awful ><

I saw it dubbed but I think I'll go see the original one, too. The dub was ok but not terribly good.
I haven't seen the series. I usually avoid all kinds of spinoff cartoons of any animated movies because the quality tends to be toilet level.

More Astrid would've been good. Actually, less Hiccup and more others would've been nice. Not that I have a problem with him but I feel like there were so many good and interesting character development points missed because Hiccup was on the screen. I especially hoped that Valka had a bigger role. It started awesome but then it felt like they just dropped her. She never taught Hiccup anything like she said she would and I think it would've been neat if at least a part of the end climax and winning the fight was because of Valka. Jfc she lived with dragons for 20 YEARS, I expected more from her.

Yeah, the movie left even less room for second characters than the first. Astrid was the big one for me though, because I watched the tv series and she only had one or two episodes featuring her. Also because Astrid is the best.

AAAHHH I LOVED THAT MOVIE! 
It was the best sequel to a movie that I've ever seen (Next to the Toy Story series, of course). It even made me cry at some points. I'm not ashamed to admit that.
And this fan art is just magnificent. Toothless has to be my favorite dragon in the movie, with Cloud Jumper at a close second. You captured the epicness of "that one scene" perfectly (no spoilers).

It was a very good sequel. :> I must admit I was a little wary but I was afraid for nothing. It had flaws but it was still very enjoyable. And emotional. Only once in a millenia comes out a movie/book/game that can make me cry (but some random parent next to me cried like nonstop).

Cloud jumper is really awesome. I love the four wings so much. I'm considering drawing it, too, but this scene was too big of an inspiration not to draw it first.
