[On Tumblr]My entry for 's Ghost/Fairy type collab.
I have been wishing for a big detailed Pokemon do draw since the first collab and now I finally got one. And oh boy did I get excited. Giratina is my faourite legendary and I had actually been wanting to draw a proper picture like this for a long time. Actually, ever since I did this Draw Pokemon from Memory session:
I liked the pose I did back then so I used it as a base for this. I intentionally gave it a very centipede-like look and added features from some other insects but I wanted to make the head look more dragonic. I listened to the Bloodborne OST a lot while drawing this and I found that this song in particular was pretty fitting: Cleric Beast .
I was really excited about this and I definitely wanted to give the best I got. Turns out it was a load of work with all those details. But it was really nice to work on this all in all and I'm happy with the result, too! And even happier to finally get this done and posted, haha. But it was also quite nice to see that I have improved since I first made the initial sketch for this. It's been two years and the initial sketch was really rough and hastily made but still.

I love this interpretation - it's bad-ass but also slightly disturbing, which I think is important to portray with Giratina, being a partial ghost type. Very nightmarish indeed! Good job.

This is a magnificent representation of one of my own favorite legendaries. I absolutely LOVE how you approached the dark pseudo-wings -- I myself feel foolish for not thinking the same thing.... And I've never been a fan of an insectian interpretation of Giratina -- even if that was my own impression when I first saw the Origin forme -- but it really works here. Especially since the head and body are of the much-desired serpentine-dragon look, which is very well-done.

Thank you very much! I thought it was important to include a bit of serpentine-dragon in this design. Full insectoid wouldn't have felt right, to me at least. I've drawn Giratina so many times, mostly embracing the dragon side only, so it was fun to try it in a different way for a change.

Oohhh, lord.
Just when I thought you couldn't further wow me with a giratina drawing of yours, you impose this whopper on me. Turns out my limits of wonder are just another logical rule giratina turns on its head. This thing is just phenomenally creepy and utterly dripping with bizarre beauty.
Giratina's always been my favourite Sinnoh legendary for a reason. Mainly for the reason that it's always reminded me of one of the coolest annelids of all time, the bobbit worm. Most people I've seen draw giratina appear to downplay this and go for a more typical satanic sort of vibe, but you, you went there. And what a result that's brought. This thing twists, turns and writhes like a proper polychaete, a horrific invertebrate of the deep. That pentagram-like array of crazy, mandible-like horns shooting every which way from the pokémon's head give the chilling sense of the mortifying alien that I don't think I've ever seen on a giratina before. And then there's all the arthropod features. Those centipede legs, curled into Burtonian spirals in the fashion of a centipede floating dead in a jar of ether captures giratina's undead aspects brilliantly, and those tarantula legs give a primal horror which is a sight to behold. Throw in that beady red-eyed death glare, the undulating tongue as if this thing's bursting into an utterance of satanic-dialect gibberish, and your once-again making great use of the infinity loop shape of its coils to suggest the infinite, unending spiral of madness, and you've put together a chill-inducing eldritch beast that captures the bizarre, unfathomable and horrific feel of giratina like nothing I've ever seen.
Shinon, you have outdone yourself. Bravo.

No, it's not. I haven't seen the movie nor know the design in question and haven't taken any inspiration from it. Any resemblance is coincidental. This is design here is inspired by several insect species I researched.

Thank you! I thought to make Giratina a bit more reptile/dragon-like at first but when I thought to make the growths on Giratina's back like spider legs I kinda felt like I should just try the insectoid approach and it actually seemed to fit.

Ah, Giratina. I built an entire team from scratch whose soul purpose was to catch this beast (and Ho Oh).
I really like the centipede legs and the cluster of spider legs on the back, looks almost like something from John Carpenter's The Thing.

It is drawn very well and is in keeping with your quality of work but... no. I cannot say I like it. Gorram tarantula legs kill it for me. Or I wish they would. Then scurry itself to a grave.
