I... don't think they should have to be a certain way at all...?

Did you have a pattern you used for cutting the fabric or something? I'm looking to try to make this dress and you did a really good job. I'm in no rush for an answer either, I was just curious. What fabric did you use? Was it hard? You used a sewing machine, I assume?

ShadewithoutSun In reply to JazyJaxi [2013-11-09 05:43:51 +0000 UTC]

I used suiting material and yes I used patterns. I used a pilgrim dress pattern with princess sleeves. It's wasn't very had and I would suggest using a machine. I did and it made it way easier than by hand. I never suggest hand sewing unless it's something you have to hand sew.

You look so cute/pretty! Β I'm going to my first Hetalia Day this year. Β I'm going as Fem Italy, but since this particular Hetalia Day Event is also a Halloween event as well, I'm going as Fem Italy as a Sailor Moon parody. Β Her dress itself is blue like Feliciano's uniform, but the skirt and ribbons and stuff are green, white, and red like the Italy flag, plus I'll have a pizza brooch and a stuffed Pookie as Luna (actually a Webkinz cat that looks like Pookie)

You can look at other comments for some answers but lemme know if you have anymore questions! I used cotton for the white parts and suiting for the blue~

SteampunkedRP [2012-10-20 01:38:45 +0000 UTC]

Is there anyway you can give me how you made the outfit? And about how much it costed? I wish to make a cheap one for A-kon 24 in May-June.
If you could be as detailed as possible with any links, that would be much appreciated.
If you could note me.... that would be amazing.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ShadewithoutSun In reply to SteampunkedRP [2012-10-27 06:56:58 +0000 UTC]

Well if you want cheap you wont get the same result as mine. I used suiting material and lots of lace.
This photo is from before I fixed it but I even added an under skirt so it looked extra nice.
I made it so long ago I cannot give a super detailed how to... xDDD
But I used a pilgrim dress pattern from Simplicity and I mixed it with a princess pattern I already had to get the effect on the sleeves. DO NOT USE ELASTIC use a long stitch and gather the material up. I winged the collar in it's entirety so I cannot help you much there other than say use a steady hand and it's MUCH easier to size down than size up so be generous with the fabric. To get the middle ribbon to stand up so nicely it's good to use a super thick interfacing. I suggest leather needles to help you pierce the interfacing. My bow was also a snap on to get the big poofed out effect.
If you need anything else in a super detail ask me specifically and I will help you the best I can ^^

about how much did it cost to make it? im on a tight budget but still want to be belarus for yumacon

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

ShadewithoutSun In reply to PoisonPenPresents [2012-08-05 21:52:32 +0000 UTC]

Not too much but I did go for suiting material and that was pricey. It does look better than cotton, though. If you have coupons you can save a killing at Joanns.

Great work & epic cosplay. Do you think you could give me a few pointers?

I've completed the costume and worn in to a few cons, but I'm wondering about the wig you're wearing. 1, where did you get it, 2 what's its' name? I like mine, but I'm looking around for different options as well.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ShadewithoutSun In reply to snowydaysnow [2012-06-17 19:57:53 +0000 UTC]

I got mine at a local store and it's 100% human hair.
Those can be pricey unless you catch them on a sale!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

snowydaysnow In reply to ShadewithoutSun [2012-06-18 02:32:55 +0000 UTC]

Ah, I've seen those wigs around. I don't think it'd feel right to wear real human hair for a costume, though; that's just me. But thank you for responding! I think I'll stick with the same wig I have now, unless an amazing one comes along.

ShadewithoutSun In reply to snowydaysnow [2012-06-20 07:11:16 +0000 UTC]

Well actually real hair is SO AWESOME to work with, and people always thought that was my natural hair! It was pretty great xD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ShadewithoutSun In reply to mylifeline [2012-03-20 05:09:41 +0000 UTC]

Make the sleeve puffs a separate piece from the tight part. Layer skirts, use a petti coat, and know that accuracy doesn't mean everything. My sash isn't 100% accurate but it looks nice still, no?

Such a nice cosplay β™₯

I'm trying to decide if I want to go as Belarus to a convention in March / April, but I have no idea where to start D: What kind of pattern would you suggest using for the base? As in, is there a certain style of dress that it could be called? I was trying to google some patterns for dresses that look like it, but I had no idea what to search for haha~

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ShadewithoutSun In reply to Grim-Grinning [2012-01-27 18:31:01 +0000 UTC]

I used a pilgrim costume dress, but added the puffy sleeves on it and essentially eye balled the collar and what not. You're gonna have to improve a lot, but it's a good place to start!

Grim-Grinning In reply to ShadewithoutSun [2012-02-04 02:49:16 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the input

I found a Alice in Wonderland costume pattern that I'm going to try and alter a little bit, so hopefully that'll work in the end c: I appreciate the help!
