Description
Β "..a sinister beauty known only as RAVEN RED."
(Raven Red has nothing to do with Ingrid Raven and her female Mafia, RAVEN).
Third AI version of the arch villainess.
One of my earliest influences...well, THE earliest one, which got me hooked on the criminal women/henchwomen trope Β was a story called "Jet Dream and her Stunt-girl Counterspies" - "The Powder Puff Derby Caper" (1967), which I read in a 1960's UK "Man from Uncle" annual.
Jet Dream and her team were action heroines who appeared in a backup strip in the Gold Key "Man from Uncle" comic in the 1960s. This particular yarn appeared in issue 12, and where I first saw it, the "Man from UNCLE" annual issued in the UK for Christmas 1967. In all the Jet Dream stories there was only (sadly!) one female arch villainess who appeared, "Raven Red." Raven made a further appearance ("Menace of the feathered warriors" in 1968), having broke jail after her "Powder Puff Derby" arrest, making yet another doomed attempt to kill Jet... but this time she has no henchwomen around.Β
In "The Powder Puff Derby Caper" aviatrix villainΒ Raven Red is hired to murder Jet for a "purse full of green paper" during an air race. Jet manages to parachute out of her plane, which is shot to hell by Raven's jet's guns, only to find herself landing on Raven's secret South Pacific island base, where she is ambushed by Red's 3 gun toting henchwomen. I had never seen this sort of female gang before, and it was great that Raven was given female hoods as her gang, rather than male ones. Needless to say, Jet deals with Raven and her bad girls efficiently.
I will be posting some differing AI images created of Raven Red and her gang..and Jet Dream too.
