Words are fickle things,
treacherous, or life giving,
happy or sad,
empty or meaningful.
My words must be colourful
must be joyous
must paint a picture in the mind.
Not just any picture
a masterpiece
more pleasing to the eye
to the soul,
to the mind,
than the Mona Lisa itself.
My words must fill the soul with emotion,
the emotion I am trying to portray,
portray through colourless text.
They must be full of life
must be believable
for I put my heart and soul into them
my passion and hunger to write.
Some words are empty
they are just words
no meaning,
no picture in eye,
or mind,
or soul.
They have no colour they are black,
full of nothing at all.
They dampen the soul,
they dampen the need to write,
for how can something full of nothing egg you on,
keep you going,
keep you going till the very end.
The way words flow define them,
define their emotion,
their colour,
the pictures they paint,
their context.
They must flow from the heart
and the soul,
otherwise how can they mean anything.
Before we try to write we must listen to the words,
listen to what they tell us.
For only then can they flow.
