Haha, she certainly has a mischievous smirk on her face Such a gorgeous bird, you captured her perfectly. Lovin' that orangy background and all the details in her feathers. She's got a really pale head, almost looks like a Red kite on first glance - is that normal for the Black kites? Google gives kinda mixed results when looking for black kite portraits...

thanks! I thought that too about black kites when I first saw them, but the grey on the head never extends down the neck I think like in red kites. Sometimes they have all dark/brown heads but I've seen a few that have this bit of grey. Maybe she's a secret hybrid?

This is the Black Kite subspecies lineatus,
that is called "Black-eared Kite" too.Β It's native to eastern Eurasia.

This here is the usual colour of this subspecies, not some hybrid.
