I did have a Betta but sadly he got ill quite quickly so I had to take him back so he could be quarantined and 5 days later he passed away I'm getting a bigger tank soon so maybe I can try again

Yeah, that sucks. They are really cool fish to have, I have four two females live together and two males share a half and half tank now.

*Before anyone tries to tell me to 'save' may fish and take the females apart, I understand it is best to have four+ females together, but I have EXTREMELY laid back betta's, I can honestly put a male in with both females and they don't really do anything. The smaller female, typically follows the bigger one.

Hehe thats good usually you need a higher female to male ratio because the male betta can then divert his attention between them ^^ I have quite a few fish and all of them are pretty laid back

That's good, I get a lot of crap from people about keeping them together, but they have been with each other for over a year, and they do perfectly fine. I was actually thinking of getting two more to put with them and add them to my largest tank, but I haven't found any females that I really just want. lol I like having my fish laid back, it means I don't have to watch them every second of the day waiting for one to attack the others ^-^

Hehe agreed my Syno' are big now and chase each other every now and again but that only happens if they go near each others logs xD but apart from that my entire tank is placid

shadow6558 In reply to Oceanic-Whitetip [2010-04-16 03:34:31 +0000 UTC]

Lol, yep, that's what my glofish do, the little cory catfish in there just try to stay out of the way, while trying to eat any food they can find on the bottom.

Lol, mine are supposed to stay on the bottom, but they swim all through my tank, I just bought a couple snails for the tank earlier today, seeing how they doo with everyone.

I really wanted to get some Corys but I wouldn't know how well they would get on with the other breeds of catfish I have

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

shadow6558 In reply to Oceanic-Whitetip [2010-04-18 22:30:50 +0000 UTC]

I know gold fish will try to swallow them, but I really don't know about other catfish... I had mine in with mollies at first and the mollies ignored them too. I would ask someone at your pet store or maybe look it up on the internet. All of my fish in the tank now wont get very big, the betta probably getting the biggest, and I put one of my smaller ones in that tank.

Oceanic-Whitetip In reply to shadow6558 [2010-04-18 22:32:12 +0000 UTC]

I have a keen interest in catfish and I believe the territorial behaviour of the syno' might affect the Corys and last thing I'd want is a unhappy Cory D:

shadow6558 In reply to Oceanic-Whitetip [2010-04-19 02:21:39 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that wouldn't be good. The cory's were investigating my new betta in the tank today, they would swim up, and then quickly swim away, lol. The betta would just sit there. I wanted to put a little thought bubble above his head that said something like wierdo's, cause that's what it looked like he was thinking.

Lol, yeah, today they were checking out the snails, and when I looked closer I must have scarred one, cause it shot off to the other side of the tank, then came swimming back expecting food xD

Lol, yeah, I have several tanks but only have my corys in my biggest tanks, the other tanks are for bettas, I could add more fish to my ten gallon, but I was thinking about breeding bettas...

lol, I was thinking about my cory's too :3 but I would have to get more, they seem to breed better in larger groups, and I'm not sure if the ones I have are old enough they have to be around 2

shadow6558 In reply to Oceanic-Whitetip [2010-04-22 00:03:01 +0000 UTC]

Mine are so cool, and I ended up putting two of my bettas together, my blue female and salmon colored male, and they are doing great. I had to separate my two females, which usually means me putting the other on in my bigger tank, but all my tanks now have males in them, so I threw my other one in with another male, they just swim around, not really doing anything. It's like my red female replaced my blue female with the male xD(I put her in with Jaeger)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Oceanic-Whitetip In reply to shadow6558 [2010-04-22 18:06:32 +0000 UTC]

Hehe are you hoping that they'll breed? If so that'd be cool if you where near me I'd definitely buy a Betta off you

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

shadow6558 In reply to Oceanic-Whitetip [2010-04-22 20:29:09 +0000 UTC]

Lol, my first pair, yes, the other two won't for some reason, it's weird. I can keep them together for months and they don't chase each other or anything...

I hope people will buy them from me directly, if not I can sell them to the local fish store.

Yeah nothing better than rearing your own fish ^^ I had the Otocinclus breed and it was difficult to find the eggs in the tank, ended up with one offspring but maybe better luck next time! ^^
