Story

It was a cool, light and breezy morning on the coast of Marinia, Aemilius was swimming in the clear teal blue sea, below a colourful coral reef can be clearly seen at the bottom bouncing a dazzling display of colour back out of the water as the sun shone down through the clear water. Above him was a cliff peering over him. Aemilius was alone or atleast he thought he was until a familiar voice from above called out to him.

"Hi Aemilius!"

Aemilius looked up to the cliff towards where the voice came from and saw Rex standing on the edge looking down towards him.

"Rex! Hello" Aemilius responded, now with a smile on his snout. Rex looked down towards Aemilius, the breeze blowing his soft, long mane gently.

"May I join you?" Rex asked as he slightly tilts his head, ears flicking. Aemilius laughed and nodded "Of course"

Rex then took a step back "You might want to watch out" He warned Aemilius

Aemilius watched curiously and then questions "Alright~ wait you're not going t-" Before he could finish, Rex took a great leap off of the cliff and jumps into the water, making a big splash as he landed into the sea.

"Ahh!" Aemilius yelps as water is thrown at him. Rex would surface beside him and takes in a breath of air, then shaking his head, his mane covering most of his face. The two then laugh.

"The water is lovely today" Rex commented before swimming around Aemilius.

"It is lovely" Aemilius replied

Rex then swam around Aemilius before asking "Would you like to explore these reefs with me?"

Aemilius think for a moment "Of course! I would love to!" He responded

Rex would then smile "I'll race ya to the bottom" he'd add

"Alright but I'm going to beat you this time~" Aemilius would say confidently, but before he could finish Rex quickly took as deep of a breath as he could before diving underwater.

"Hey! I wasn't ready" Aemilius laughed and he too took a deep breath before following Rex underwater.

The two dove down to the reef, their long manes and tails flowing gracefully underwater, dragging behind them as they dove down, a trail of beautiful silver bubbles rising from their nostrils. Aemilius soon caught up to Rex but could't keep up with the smaller horse's agility underwater.

Soon the two would touch down on the soft sandy floor, Rex would reach the seabed first with Aemilius landing shortly after. Rex looks at Aemilius and gave him a smile, Aemilius would softly mumble but smiles back, leaning in to nuzzle Rex's long, soft flowing mane, Rex seems to like it when Aemilius nuzzles him and began to swish long flowing tail quickly, feeling a bit flustered, blowing another stream of bubbles out of his nostrils, making a "blubblubblubble" sound as the bubbles drift out of his nose, slowly drifting to the surface.

Aemilius would nudge Rex gently and notions to the beautiful, bright and colourful reef around them, Rex's eyes widened at the reef's dazzling and colourful beauty. Aemilius swam forward and glances back at Rex, gesturing with his head for him come along. Rex didn't hesitate to swim with Aemilius, the two swimming across the colourful reef, their long, silky and soft manes flowing in a dazzling display, the strands of hair dancing like the kelp underwater.

The two were swimming along the reef, taking in the enchanting display of colours and watching the odd tropical fish swim by but the two were only about 10 seconds in when Rex soon felt like he needed to breathe. Despite his grace and agility in the water, Rex couldn't hold his breath for very long. Rex broke away from Aemilius to find a piece of oxygenated coral, luckily there was one beneath him so he swooped down and grabbed it with his mouth, springing back up as he breathes out of his nose, then taking in a much needed breath from the oxygenated coral.

"Mmm~?" Aemilius would hear Rex breathing out and expelling bubbles, a few bubbles of his own rise from his nostrils as he looks over his shoulder back at him a making sure he was okay. Rex's aquamarine eyes gaze towards Aemilius, giving him a reassuring look. Aemilius would relax when he realises that Rex is alright but keeps and eye on him, just to make sure.

Taking in the one breath the oxygenated coral granted him, Rex drops the depleted piece of coral and ventured on with a fresh breath in his delicate lungs. This time he would swim much closer to Aemilius, the size difference between the two becoming more obvious as they swam close together. Aemilius wasn't sure why Rex was so close all of a sudden but he didn't mind the company.

The two swam together across the reef, their long, soft and silky manes and tails flowing underwater, ears laid back. After a few seconds Rex would lean in began to rub his snout against Aemilius's sorrel neck and nuzzles it. This would make Aemilius slow to a stop as he felt this from Rex, smiling at him. Rex would continue and kept nuzzling him, a few bubbles drifting from both horse's nostrils as they float underwater. Aemilius then began to nuzzle Rex and starts to swish his long sorrel tail before the two lean their heads on each other, doing a sort of horsey hug.

Soon after, they both spring off of the bottom and begin swimming up to the surface. Soon, upon breaking the surface, the two would take in a deep, grateful breath of the crisp, salt sea air with Rex panting slightly.

"Aaahh.. that was amazing!" Rex exclaimed excitedly, swimming infront of Aemilius as he looked up at the larger sorrel horse with his long mane covering a good portion of his face. Aemilius would smile as he tosses his long sorrel mane out of his eyes

"That was a lot of fun, you alright though?" Aemilius asked, still a tad concerned

Rex replied "I'm fine, I would give you a signal if I wasn't"

Aemilius would nod "That's good"

Rex would then ask "Should he head for the beach? I could do with a good roll in some sand"

Aemilius would laugh and then reply "Sure, sounds good"

The two then swam to the sandy shore to go play in the sand as horses do..

Introducing my new boi Rex! He is an avid hydro-holic being a fast swimmer and an expert at cliffjumping x3

I've had the idea for the piece in my mind for the better part of about 10 months but never got around to it, I wanted to make a new character for it and have him swimming across a reef with Aemilius and only now have I gotten around to make this piece. This was a lot of fun to do and write for, huge thanks for Mellow-Clouds for making Rex's ref sheet and helping out with a few bits with this piece. This turned out so amazing I am so happy with this piece!

I know I said I was going to take a break but I really felt inspired to make this piece when I brought it up in a conversation with Mellow and I had to go and make it before I forget again. I hope you all like it and I hope you like the story too.

Thank you all for the early birthday wishes and support, things have been kind of hectic in my personal life with work and preparations for my college year and other personal matters. You all mean the world to me and I can't thank you all enough. Especially Mellow (I am seriously forever in your debt ;w; .)

Story
