In a world full of heroes, some people won’t deny that watching a fight between Quirk users is thrilling. Whether it be between heroes and villains, heroes training and whatnot, the entertainment factor has greatly increased. People just love the idea of seeing superpowers in play especially if it means they have a chance of being able to do something similar. Just like with martial arts, people seek ways to show off in a way from time to time. Dangerous yes, but still enjoyable. For some at least.
So the Kengan Association was more than willing to take part in increasing the people’s enjoyment at this evolutionary bump.
This underground society handles underground fights that borders on being illegal so this was already raising some alarm bells to the actual hero associations and even the general consensus. Many look down upon on it for being such a barbaric method of fighting. Whether you have Quirks or just martial arts or other means to fight, these clashes are usually only for the sake of money and fame in the underworld. Only the greedy, arrogant, and the desperate fight in these deathly matches. That was the typical expectation for Kengan Association matches.
That couldn’t be anymore wrong.
Despite Kengan Matches being as bad flag raising as other underground societies, they’re well respected for keeping the law and being truthful. Organizations are able to fully come to an agreement whether it’s expensive buildings, pieces of arts, pieces of research, or even building rights. All of those are followed through and many fighters are handled with care, being accommodated in many ways. It’s in a way similar to how gladiators are treated in the past. Regardless of entertainment factor, their priorities rely on concluding deals and showing off their fighters while keeping them safe. Whether they be martial artists only or Quirk users. It’s a much more professional organization now compared to the past, which was the main reason why it has such a stigmata now. The past.
Really, just like the gladiators .
Of course, it’s not always the matches that one should focus on….
There’s always a faction that has an ulterior motive rising up from the shadows, moving about. Earning funds or fighters to recruit, those who want to mess with peace exist everywhere. It just can’t be helped. Which is what brings this small group right here...

“Kirishima….” Midoriya Izuku looked on at the crowd up ahead. Even if they’re still in the hallway away from them their cheers were loud. Were they that eager for Kirishima’s opponent? “Are you sure this is going to be alright? I know you’re allowed to use your Quirk but…”
“Relax!! I got this Deku!” A half clothed redhead shouted giving him a thumbs up. Eijiro Kirishima wasn’t fazed at all. “If we don’t act now we can’t find access to what we’re looking for!”
“I know but still…” Izuku was still hesitant. “I know everything’s set up to be fine but keep an eye out,”
That wasn’t entirely true.
Whatever injury happens to Kirishima will be his own doing, and if he were to die he would be dead. But Recovery Girl was here to help alongside a few skilled doctors. His survival was guaranteed as long as he lived through this fight and considering that Kirishima’s opponent was mostly a normal person well… Maybe he was being worried over nothing?
“Come on take it easy Deku!” A spiky white-haired fellow cheered, standing nearby and checking his scroll. “This is Kirishima we’re talking! He can take on explosions!! And even a hit from me! Full force!”
“Heh! Thanks! Seriously though don’t do that in public otherwise you might blow the place up! Which is sick too!! Manly!!”
“Yeaaaaaah!!”
“Also you two got my back anyway! Nothing bad’s gonna happen and I’ll call in quits once I’m knocked out.”
“But you can’t call in quits when you’re knocked out!”
“Exactly!”
Erch…. The two were getting loud now,
But for now, maybe he was getting worried over nothing. Izuku looked back at the crowd. Their opponent was over there too. Also getting ready? Definitely a physical fighter just from a glance alone. Doesn’t look like a bloodlusty fellow either so maybe-
“-Standing 170 cm!! He’s a newcomer but he already made a name for himself out there!! A fan favorite with his timely intervention for Agasaki Headlines-”
“Whoops! That’s my cue! Alright, time to go!” And there goes Kirishima rushing to the front. “Wish me luck guys!”
“-This is his first time debuting!! Give him a warm welcome as we have our first superhero join in!!-”
“Break a leg!”
“That’s not luck! That’s a threat!”

“-KIRISHIMA EIJIIIIIROOOOO!!”

“That’s the point!” Izuku chuckled, shaking his head at the whitette beside him. “But don’t worry about him Deku! I’m sure Kirishima’s got this. I mean sure you can train your ass till you can punch out boulders, but I’m sure it’s not the same for this place!”
“Well we can’t say anything on that for sure,” Izuku said back, now joining the front of the match. The announcers already introducing the fighters. It wasn’t as if he doesn’t have faith in his friend at all really. “I know Kirishima’s super strong with his Quirk. But if there’s people like Mirio who can get strong enough through training well… I guess we’ll see?”

However, they weren’t the only audience who knew each contender well. A spiky blonde and a man who had a very simple flat hairstyle watched on one corner.
“I feel bad for the kid man,” Rihito, the blonde one, said keeping a watch on Kirishima. Saw has yet to arrive and was waiting for that introduction “He’s about to get his ass whooped.”
“Don’t be,” Kaneda warned examining his scroll. One of the many devices nowadays in this place. “I hear that kid helped face Kendo Rappa before.”
“Who?”
“You really don’t know who’s fighting who...” Kaneda sighed. “It’s one of those strong Quirk users out there. Part of the Mafia and all. Someone Akoya’s even tracking.”
“Oh! Well, it’s not like this is the first time Saw faced someone with a superpower before heh. Remember me? And that Rei guy!”
“And he suffered badly against both…”

And on another end, a blonde woman and a hooded man stood there. One clearly bored while the other looking on.
“They got your eye or something pops?” The blonde one asked, more focused on her scroll. “You didn’t seem that hyped when that Ip and Li fellow fought.”
“Well now there’s superpowers in play so this can be fun,” Fung yu-Sau said calmly. “You should watch Yang, you might learn a thing or two from them.”
“Considering I’ve been whooping ass on whoever we face…”
“Not gonna last. We’ve been laying low. If we’re found out we’re going to have to deal with a lot of enemies stronger than us,”
“Right right. Well, here’s my view. Kid looks like he’s gonna be boxing, other one is a muay-thai guy. And the kid is probably more strategic.”
“Well, you’re not wrong.”

STOMP STOMP STOMP!!
Already he was running straight for the entrance.
Gotta make a dynamic entry!
“-184 cm tall!! Kengan record of 29 wins and 4 losses!! His scream in battle overwhelms us al!! His voice that can reach heaven!! Here he is!!! YOZUKAWARA SAW PAIIIIING-”
“YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!”
The moment she finished shouting Saw shouted as he jumped out of the hallway and into the area. In a feat of impossibility, he nearly deafened the whole crowd, while they were shouting. Outscreaming them. Laughing as he waved at the crowd, and waiting for the announcer to gain their bearing. Really! This was great! Full house gets the blood pumping! Gaolang might be here too but for now it’s really great!
And ah! His opponent looks a bit spooked. Probably not used to this place! He’s a newcomer after all, best give him a warm welcome!
“Jesus I think I’m deaf, oh hold on folks, ears still ringing. It’s like a grenade!” Some of the audience laughed at the Announcer’s joke but Saw only waved at the kid.
“Kid I’m not gonna hold back on you alright!?” Straight to the point. Better make him know it so he won’t get spooked! Keep him distracted from being scared! “Even if you weren’t a superhero I’m gonna go at you full on! So bring it all on even with your superpower!!”
“If you’re gonna do that then I’ll do the same!!” Still, Kirishima felt pumped to go against someone like him. “Go all out on your martial arts on me!!”
“Yeah!!!! Alright!!! That’s how it’s gotta be! Man to man! Fist to fist!”
“You know, I really agree with you!”
The referee only had only one thought as the two took stances.
‘At least they’re getting along… And….. ’ Izuku only thought, holding his hands to his ears.

“Now all of you take your stance… and….
“FIGHT!!!!”

Tough - Hajime No Ippo (keep it looped)

BAM!!
Not even a second.
Not even a second has passed and Saw had already shot towards Kirishima. The gap was cleared. The redhead had barely any time to react, only lifting his arms to guard. And so the attack slipped through and hit Kirishima right on the chest. The force was more than enough to send him flying, smashing through a pillar and onto the ground. Dust and concrete scattered upon impact, leaving the audience momentarily quiet as Kirishima’s crash went obscured.
Then the deafening cheer.

“WOOOOOOOH!!”
“Goddamn!”
“Is it over already!?”
“Kid didn’t stand a chance!”
“Oh he was cute… poor sidekick..”
“Nah no way! This is like one of those animes!”

The crowd cheered at another ‘decisive battle’, less concerned about the other’s safety. Everyone had high expectations after all. Which is some were quiet as they watched the dust cleared. Saw himself looked less surprised and more eager at what was rising up. Or rather what remained.
Kirishima was there in the same exact pose, not even dented, despite crashing through that pillar. Still standing unharmed. With that slight scowl on his face… until he started coughing, waving some of the dust cloud away.
“Oh man! I thought you guys use this place to fight all the time? It’s so dusty!”
He was fast. But he was just as fast in reacting. Reacting to explosions does that to you. He had managed to harden himself just in time. It was a feeling that if he didn’t, he would’ve taken heavy damage. Thankfully he didn’t but that was alarming… He felt that even through his Quirk.
Murmurs of awe were already scattering upon seeing Kirishima be just fine after that attack. A hero taking on the full force...
But for Saw?

“YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!”

Saw was even more excited and grinning, his shout blotting out any commentary the others could make. Kirishima was beginning to wonder if that was his Quirk. Even the crowd looked like they were really stunned, regulars and newcomers alike. In fact, even Kirishima was covering his ears.
“I knew you can take a punch!!” Saw shouted as he already charged in. “You got that look in your eyes! YEAAAAAAAAAH!!!”
“Thanks!!!” ‘Is that his quirk!?!? Are we sure he doesn’t have a Quirk!?’ Kirishima was honestly worried for the safety of his eardrums. Heck even when he shouted his thank you he couldn’t hear how his voice sounds! Maybe he really went slightly deaf or is it the crowd effect? Well.. nevermind that! Saw was getting close! Kirishima was ready this time. Hunched and in a guarded stance-
“ORYAAAAAAAAAH!!”
The first strike came forth! Kirishima grinned as he hardened again, not to the full use of his ability. Yet enough to tank this attack with no injury! Then the rain of punches came in. Once more he blocked! Alright, he’s ready! He can take-and again another batch.
And again.
And again.
“!!?”
Punch after punch after punch, they kept on coming! Even the punches were pushing him back. The concrete that he grounded his feet upon was cracking. Each punch tossed at him kicking up a shockwave that blew the air behind him. The referee who was at the side was getting disbalanced. His friend too had to cling to his hat to keep it from flying.
Punch after punch after punch after kick!
It wasn’t as if it was just a barrages of punches on the same spot. They kept changing on where they hit. The sudden kicks too shook the Quirk user. Kirishima couldn’t get a bead on where to block and had to use more and more of his Hardening to the point that his appearance is clearly different. But still-
Punch. Punch. Kick.

-Saw kept on attacking not slowing down. It’s not as if his attacks are getting stronger, but he just won’t stop!! It was frustrating!!
“HRAAAAH!”
And another hit! Stronger this time. This time Kirishima skidding back. Saw’s speed was overwhelming. But he was just pushing him back. Saw wasn’t exactly harming him. Sure, he’s great on actually keeping up but he’s got this. Technically he could keep on going with outlasting him, but that wouldn’t cut it. He had to hit back too otherwise he might run out of steam… Well, no. Honestly it might just be more out of not wanting to do just that. It wasn’t manly to do!
So when Saw closed in, Kirishima pulled back an arm and punched forward!
“!!!”
A direct hit! Full contact to the chest! Despite Saw’s speed he didn’t choose to dodge? Was that right? Kirishima thought he would be the dodging type? But either way it was a hit! Honestly there was a shockwave behind Saw as the Lethwei fighter reeled back. That single attack sent him back!
For a second.
Once more the waves recontinued. This time lifting Kirishima up in some of them-shit! Was he gonna be sent tumbling again!? It won’t hurt too much but if he followed up but there was just so many!!
“YAAAAAAA!!”
Once more, a sideway kick was what followed up. Coming out of nowhere to the side. Saw expected Kirishima to be sent skidding like before, but was left surprised as he saw Kirishima blocking the leg. At the same time, a fist struck Saw’s head sending him stepping back. Though he still grinned.

‘That’s awesome! This kid’s hella cool!!!’
“Thanks!!! You too!!!”

Oh! He shouted that by accident! But Saw tapped his cheek.
This hero guy’s arm was something else! He really felt that! The red guy looked steady and now has a kinda cool armor on him… Those are Quirks right? Awesome! They’re just like what he can do! A superpower thingy that makes them stronger! Yeah! If he could fight guys like that more it would be great!
This guy wasn’t the best martial artist but his superpower was awesome! Manly as hell!! Being like an unbreakable wall!

Kirishima had started to back off, not really trying to avoid the attacks but more attempting to make it harder for Saw to hit him. Or at least exert more force to reach him. It wasn’t too successful but he’s getting more used to timing his hardening so that he won’t get hit too hard. But still… was he even doing damage? He wouldn’t stop attacking even if he takes a hit.
And Kirishima knew he hits hard!
So it must be his martial art or technique or something! Maybe his Quirk is actually that? No wait, no, don’t assume it. Right now he needs to focus on getting his Hardening on time.
As long as he could keep the timing-ah!! Saw was charging in! Raised fist! Kinda obvious, but this time he’ll meet him with that then! Kirishima began to charge forward raising his fist-
SLAM!!!
Saw’s fist met Kirishima’s.
This time the shockwave was really felt across making everyone stumble back!!! A head-on man to man clash of equal power and speed!

Is what was expected to happen.
Instead, Kirishima’s attack did reach Saw, but due to the difference of their arm length his attack just barely missed. Once more he was pushed to defend as Saw comboed from that. And a heavy offense met a heavy defense.

But as before it was the same situation. Saw attacking and attacking. The crowd’s cheers were dying down a bit to Kirishima’s hearing. Oh man. He could actually hear it. The sound of flesh hitting concrete again and again. As if hammers were chipping at rock. It only repeated and repeated, the almost rhythmic sound accompanied by Saw’s battle cries. Kirishima could get some good hits but it wasn’t always a guarantee. He couldn’t build enough force before being swarmed by attacks that keep pushing him back. So...
“Ah-?”
-he grabbed Saw by the waist in a tackle, partially lifted him, and slammed him down!! This is despite the numerous strikes aimed at his head. The ground cracking from the impact alone and Kirishima backing off as Saw remained there. Did that daze him? Usually he would’ve attacked already but this guy wasn’t a bad guy. It wasn’t really his style to beat someone while they’re down if they weren’t a villain…
Not to mention he was still dazed from all those hammerings.
Not to mention stressful for his Hardening.
Every moment counts and he needs a breath.

Music pause

“Hey kiddo!!”
Kiddo?
Saw hopped back on his feet, not even slowed down. Did he just shrug that off?? No, he has to have taken some damage right? … Yeah. He did look a bit bruised but was he just walking it off? Was it really just tenacity? …. Likely tenacity considering how there’s blood leaking from his forehead.
Hell, that’s manly.
“You can’t do that! You’re holding back on me!”
“Eh?” Holding back? Wait, does he know about Unbreakable? He was known for his Quirk so it won’t be a surprise but…
“Yeah, when a fighter’s down you gotta keep fighting and all!!” Saw’s tone was loud but not as deafening as before. He still had that energy despite looking pumped- no wait he was breathing hard. He was just that excited? “I mean if you fight bad guys they’re gonna be cheap against you too!! Might feel cheap but not so much when you’re fighting for your life!”
“Huh,” Kirishima knew that actually. He remembered. He and Fatgum almost lost to two villains because they were a hard counter to the two alongside bad matchups. They only won because those two started fighting due to Rappa’s code of honor. But it made sense. He always thought of it…. So he was actually willing to go for it but here in this Kengan fight? Anything goes. “You sure? Anything goes?”
“It feels kinda unfair if only one of us goes all out!!” Saw shouted bumping his chest. “And sides!!! Is it manly to not take someone seriously!?”

“I can’t hear a thing or see a thing… What are they doing Rihito?”
“Want me to lift you up?”
“What? No! Just tell me what you’re seeing.”
“It looks like they’re talking…. Maybe Saw’s explaining his technique to the kid and the kid’s doing the same. Like you know, in one of those animes.”
“I feel like you’re very wrong.”

That’s right…
“You’re right,” Kirishima nodded in realization. Well, against others they wouldn’t agree to this logic. But this guy’s fighting in the same way as him! It’s not fair to hold back!! Not manly at all and makes it look like you’re pitying or dismissing the guy! Yeah! “Alright then!! Well I’ll use my trump card for you later then but I won’t hold back anymore!”
It was probably fine to use Unbreakable just in case. There was no way this guy was going to die if he could take this much damage.
“YEAAAAH!!! Awesome! I’ll do the same to you!! The manly way!!”

OPM Battle
Odd agreements here and there. But it wasn’t just small talk.
It gave Kirishima ample time to catch his breath. Every moment off of his hardening helps.
And now…. Saw charged in again. The same tactic. The same stance. So Kirishima did the same, and hardened himself. Turning himself into a full on ram. Saw’s punch in turn ended up slowing Kirishima, but his slam actually sent Saw reeling. This allowing for an uppercut!!
“!!”
Saw had stumbled back from the uppercut, actually looking dazed from the hit. An opportunity! Kirishima was already hammering, delivering speedy jabs. It wasn’t as if he wasn’t focusing on defense, but right now he was all on offense. He wasn’t just a shield anymore. He had to be a spear! Never let up!
“ORYAAAA!!” Kirishima shouted as he pulled back his arm and swung! A sudden strong one!
Finishing off with another punch to the head!!! Headshots are working!! A full force punch that hit point on!!
But uh… Wait. Kirishima had slowed down. His eyes was on his fist that he just attacked with. The hardening was cracked- no wait, shattered? It was actually shattered! No blood but- when did it break!? When he punched-
“ALRIIIIIGHT!!!!”
One part of Kirishima wanted to scream back. The other part wanted to tell Saw to stop since people might go deaf. Both are hard to do when a full forced fist hit you point on the face. Armor or not, it hurt!! More so than the others? That wasn’t just from the shouting either! Kirishima kicked his foot up hitting something, likely Saw’s chest, but was struck aside by a side blow!
His balance was shaken as he was sent rolling, but even as that happened a foot struck him and sent him rolling further.
‘What the??’ Still, Kirishima managed to get back on his feet. Only to receive a leg to the side of his face. This one budged him but his Hardening shrugged it off. Now back to the clear armored form. ‘His attacks are getting-’ Kirishima grabbed Saw’s arm as he punched downwards, and pulled the Burmese fighter down. Once more Saw’s head decorated the ground with another crater. Unlike before Kirishima punched downwards before he can get up, but it was grabbed by Saw’s hand. Both forced to stand up and face each other. ‘They’re not stronger but??’
Now neither can punch the other. But kicks?
“ORYA!!!”
Kicks kept coming.
Kirishima should be able to shrug them off. As expected due to their gripping stance Saw can only aim for most of his lower body. His Hardening had focused there and these fortifications should be. He can take on armored giant robots like this after all if he focused.

Crack

Yet he buckled. His stance lowered slightly. Eyes wide.
An elbow struck hard against his face. Wince-inducing, but tolerable. But cracks had formed.
Whatever was happening has to stop!
“GRAAAAH!!” Kirishima shouted as he straightened up and delivered a kick of his own. A blow that reached Saw’s leg. Saw did kneel slightly, but only clung tighter and elbowed his face again. Aiming for that same section. The same vulnerable fragment. Though that had to cease as Kirishima stiffened his arms, preventing Saw from attacking again and was now trying to squish Saw’s arm.
This earned Kirishima several knees to the crotch.
It… didn’t hurt shockingly. But it was very uncomfortable. And the sensation of something cracking there wasn’t good. The damage was building up.

There were a few factors that influenced the sudden advantage and only few of the audience noticed it.

Reach, joints, and techniques. Saw was aggressive and willing to take the hits, but he wasn’t just taking them all on. He was capitalizing on his arm length, being a full adult, over Kirishima’s younger and slightly shorter reach. That gap between 184 and 170 was enough. While Kirishima could hit Saw, he could also hit him back first and weaken his attack. Even if the hero was stronger and sturdier he had to exert more to reach him.

With his joints having to be open to allow for him to attack. His defense was amazing when steady, but he had to loosen himself up to move faster. So if one were to time themselves with their speedy attacks on those defenses, those cracks will build up and cause pause.

But those are the minor factors. Both contenders knew this. That’s why Kirishima latched onto Saw. There was a central deciding one for all these advantages.

With a loud cry, Kirishima began to slam his head down repeatedly. Numerous headbutts in a row. Roaring as he does so. Any villain on the receiving end of this would end up with a concussion or worse. But Kirishima felt this guy could take it. So when he pulled back, he was a bit surprised when he saw fragments of his hardened face fall off. It was refortifying itself as if it harmed itself.
Which was confusing as Saw only had a bloodier forehead. Alongside a grin.
“You do those too!?!? Awesome!! Here’s mine!!!”
And he was about to do the same… Kirishima steeled himself for the upcoming headbutt-yet felt an odd sense of…
!!

HAMMER OF BURMA!!

Music pause

Saw coughed.
A bit of a daze but overall fine. This kid was really sturdy! Had to take a step back to make sure he was away from Kirishima, his arms now free. His headbutt had hit point on. It should’ve crushed any enemy in front of him. But as he stepped back he could see full on that the redhead was standing!! Face undamaged and looking badass!! (Saw’s thoughts) Though he was left a bit dazed that was something!!
“Hoh!”
It was awesome! This was the first time someone actually took on the Hammer of Burma!.... But…
“Tch! Damn…” Kirishima’s arm? Not so much. He had blocked with one arm and it looked broken. Maybe mangled? It didn’t look right and the hardening was shattered. It can definitely be patched up and him using his elbow joints to defend helped. But still damaged. He’s gutsy as hell!! He has the makings of a Kengan Fighter if that didn’t even hurt him! Well it clearly did but it didn’t bother him!
“Your… your head is freaking hard isn’t it!??”
“Yeah!!!!!” Saw laughed as he tapped his knuckles on his forehead.

“I'm suuuuper hard you know!!”

…

Ah.

Looking at Kirishima’s blank face.
The audience got quiet too. Super quiet. That could’ve been worded differently.
“Ahahaha! My bad!!” Saw raised his arms at the crowd, earning some chuckles and giggles. “But yeah! My skull is super hard kid!! Gotta protect the brain and all!!! Think with your body, attack with your head!!!”
“I don’t think that was ever a saying...” Deku muttered from afar.
“I don’t think that was ever a saying!!” Kirishima shouted, cracking his knuckles, and wincing. “But that’s your Quirk then!?”
He was mostly shouting to dull out the pain and distract himself.
“Quirk? Oh! The superpower! Yeah!!” Saw knocked on his head. “Hardhead, hard bones and all! Well, I kinda trained it! Meanwhile, you’re all about super armor right? Like a golem!”
“Well, hardening! But that’s kinda right! Harden any part of the body!!”
Both weren’t just conversing for show. They wanted to get a breather from that ‘head clash’.... But they also partly wanted to show off and want to know what the other can specifically do.
“Wait then your loud shouting… Is that a Quirk too?”
“NOOPE!!!!!” There goes someone’s ear drums. “Just feeling really awesome fighting you!! That’s why!! Cause you’re one of the manliest fighters I ever fought Kirishima!! You’re top Kengan Class material!”
It wasn’t a taunt nor a challenge. A sincere compliment! Kirishima definitely looked determined to Saw’s eyes. It reminded him of many fighters he fought before! Those who knew they can push their limits! The crowd murmured among themselves. Despite that injury Kirishima had only complained about it once. In fact he was grinning back. Well, he winced time to time but that’s forgiven.
“Thanks Saw!! Well you’re a pretty awesome guy too!! You should definitely be a hero if you want! Sides!” Kirishima glanced at the crowd that was actually getting riled up. “There’s no way a hero can just give up midway even with a broken arm! A hero can’t back down on saving someone because of a small injury!”

“Like Deku!”
“Asta…”

“A real man’s gotta finish what he started,” Kirishima shouted, almost mimicking Saw’s volume. Which seemed to shock- or seemingly deafen most of the crowd. Bringing up his free fist he gestured. “So let’s go!!”
“Hell yeah!!! But I’m not gonna hold back!!”
“That’s fine!! I get it!!”
Kirishima took a deep breath and looked at his arm. He could still move it but swinging with it is gonna be hard. Fortifying it for attacks would make it still hurt like hell. Over there Saw hadn’t attacked yet. Did that headbutt mess him up more than he thought or was he just being patient? He was hurt by his other attacks so it’s gonna work. Both of them can keep going. Same for him, likely worse considering he’s actually taking damage. Alright. There’s an idea. If he can time it for that headbutt, Unbreakable might decide this match. But for now…

Kirishima took a fighting stance, forcing his mangled arm up… and he shouted.
“LET’S GO!!”
“HRAAAAAAH!!”
Charge in!!! This renewed vigor gave him energy to close in the distance and Saw was left grinning. If anything, seeing how the injury wasn’t slowing down Kirishima was making him more excited. But by taking the initiative Saw can’t build up the momentum. So the loud shouter had to assume a stance...
Leap into the face of danger. Get rid of the reach advantage!! Don’t let him initiate!!
And Saw punched forward! Easy to hit the redhead considering he was charging straight on, his fist slamming into Kirishima’s shoulder. Yet to his surprise it was deflected as Kirishima closed in. Did he... Did he parry his punch with his shoulder?

But Saw followed with a knee in that quick second dodge. This one hitting Kirishima’s broken arm! Broken… fortified arm?

This was perfect.
Saw was disbalanced in that position. The fighter had hoped to create some distance but this was the worst case scenario. Kirishima stomped on the ground, cracking it, and spun his body fullforce. A full on uppercut to the jaw! The Kengan fighter was almost sent flying if not for Kirishima grabbing his arm and pulling on the ground. Clearly dazed. Blacking out for half a second. Blood spat out from his mouth. More damage than before!

If his skull is strong, aim for the jaw!!

From that pull Kirishima’s arm moved to quick jabs. An uppercut from this angle was bad. But with this he should be fine!! If he’s this close he can keep on attacking! Saw was swinging his arms too and now preventing him from hitting his jaw but there wasn’t enough momentum on them so he can take it! This was how a true man fights!! Nothing cheap!!
“REEEEED GAUN-”
A punch interrupted Kirishima’s shout. Cracking more of his face. Saw had recovered and was steadying even in that bad angle and-
“-COUNTER!!"
-Saw was sent reeling to the side despite him raising his arm to block. Kirishima’s attack had got through! A clear bruise on Saw’s arm as he stumbled. Tossing several jabs forward he struck clear, but began to miss as Kirishima ducked and weaved before delivering a punch to the solar plexus. Saw winced and slowed, but managed to muster up a knee!!
His own knee was matched by Kirishima’s.
And a punch to the face sent him back. He was taking hit after hit. Not of a continuous stream like his, but heavy hit after hit! A delay each time that didn’t matter due to his confusion. With Saw disbalanced, he can’t use his headbutt either. Unless he can get good footing there would be no Hammer of Burmas coming.
So Kirishima kept tossing punch after punch, twisting his body for more force!
“He has a good fighting instinct. He switched to Infighting immediately.”
“Huh… The way of fighting an enemy up close?” Yang muttered. “Guess that’s one way to shake off the distance and reach.”
“Indeed. He had moved to dispersing the attacks most of the time and I dare say using his enemy’s striking power to propel him to better speeds.”
“Really? Thought he was just finally boxing or something.”
“Well true. But if it was just that it won’t be enough. There’s still after all the speed.”

LATCH
Ah.

Saw was still reeling back and unsteady, but the stance of his head. Despite having one foot on the ground his grip on Kirishima was enough. He was going to use his own upper body strength to bring himself down.
Saw’s next Hammer of Burma was imminent!!

Kirishima curled, ceasing his barrage and bringing both arms up. Wincing in pain as he lifted that same broken arm. Going full on. At the very least he can harden this as much as possible-
Swiff.

“Ah.”

Wait. By defending what’s above-
Saw had crouched, not using his trademark ability.

“Cra-”

A full force knee. It was a feint. Saw had moved from the Hammer of Burma straight into a flying knee kick straight to his jaw. With Saw holding him down he couldn’t move back and the force was increased. Fragments and cracks had formed. Not to mention just as dazed. Kirishima backing off- but was hounded by Saw tossing in the assortment of attacks again.

But unlike before Kirishima held his ground. Unmoving and unflinching as each attack came and came. Punch to the gut, kicks to the knee, elbow to the face. He took it all in like a shield. For the first time Saw had to back off from his own attack rush without any hits, visibly frustrated. His hands raised and revealing blood on the knuckles. Though there were many cracks on Kirishima’s body, the armor-like carapace was making it hard to get through each time. Despite him playing defense Saw was heading to self-destruction because of this tactic. Kirishima’s own Hardening had increased in tandem. He had timed his hardening even at the joints!

It almost seemed to regenerate really. A bit frustrating. Even if it wasn’t truly that.
“Gotta take him out in one go…” Saw muttered softly. “Can’t get through properly…”
Of course, one Hammer of Burma can blow through that.
Then again he could just catch a breather. He needs timing too.
As right now, both are watching the other. Prepared to react.

It didn’t take long for one to move. Kirishima stepped forward, the ground cracking at the weight of his force. A reckless move against anyone else. But to Saw? It was a challenge. So he charged, doing the exact same move. Each one using the full force of their body weight to rotate and strike.

The result was an actual cross counter. Each fist impacting head on.
Kirishima’s face practically shattered, this one hurts even more.
But Saw fell to his knees.

‘Anything goes!’ And so he charged and followed with jab after jab! Loosening his Hardening to at least allow for his speed to be of match. Considering how Saw looked dazed again, he wasn’t going to let him recover! Aiming for the jaw was hard with his hunched stance but as long as he’s hitting the body! Wear him down!! He was damaging him!-

Woah!!

SLAM!

Kirishima grunted as he crashed, now pressed on the ground. Saw’s legs wrapped around him and his arms wrapped around his neck. With this angle it was impossible to escape. Saw had gotten on tap and was attempting to crush him. Cracks-something was cracking!

What can you do to someone more durable than you?
If your attacks aren’t getting through or you’re unable to use any of your preferred attacks?
Saw wasn’t one to grapple as it wasn’t his specialty but it was doable. In a place like Kengan Matches or, well any other situation against superpowered enemies… you have to do whatever it takes to win! Any tactic is fair game. Pressure points, cheap attacks, ambushes, chokeholds.

Those weren’t his style.
He too shared the same thinking process as Kirishima in the idea of a manly fight.
So the best he can do?
Attempt to deny him from getting the chance to harden and regenerate! (His thinking process) Pin him down and get time to recover, and make him go down!
With Kirishima pressing down and his front facing down, it was hard to get up. His broken arm was already pushing against the ground and was inducing more pain than it should. An accidental benefit. While his other arm tried to weakly punch and push Saw, but couldn’t muster the strength or momentum due to the angle. Or at least he couldn’t reach him properly.
Saw couldn’t choke him. The angle and his own fighting style prevented that. Not to mention Kirishima’s own hardening was now focused on the neck. He wasn’t that desperate as in his fight with Rei. But he still didn’t want to kill the kid.

But a hero doesn’t go down without using his trump card.
“HRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!”
Kirishima was roaring at a volume almost louder than Saw.
Slowly getting back up. The sensation of his broken arm being pressed down lessening and giving him more strength. The fortitude to rise up… But more importantly loosening Saw’s position as the sharp edges of Kirishima’s body began to pierce slightly. Before he could properly get away, Kirishima leapt backwards! Straight towards a pillar!
The two of them crashing through and this time sending them both rolling.

But when both of them got up, there was something different.
Saw was glancing at his bloody hands as he… noticed Kirishima get up too. Neither were really hurt by the pillar crash but man… That sight of the hero using the full power of his Quirk. The sight of it…

“What is that?”
Saw actually asked in an almost quiet tone.
Eyes wide in awe as Kirishima took ragged breaths, not really from injury but more from nearly being deprived of oxygen. Though seeing Saw’s expression calmed him down. A slight smile forming.
“It’s Unbreakable! My Quirk!! My super power!!!” Usually Kirishima wouldn’t even consider giving a monologue of his ability but as a matter of respect to someone like Saw… Sides, oxygen deprivation can leave you wanting to breathe a bit more. “If it’s not obvious, well! I’m harder than before-”

“You’re AWESOOOOOOOOOOOME!”
Oh.
Or he could just shout out now.
“That’s freaking awesome!!! You’re like the Hulk or something hahaha!!! Alright!!!!! Let’s go then!!!!!!”
Not much time to even give exposition as Saw was already charging in.

And threw a jab at Saw’s face.
Speed was the focus. Saw had mistakenly assumed Kirishima was just going to take all the blows he could. That was a wrong move. And for a moment he lost his trail of thought. Which left him wide open to a jump knee kick. Followed by an arm chop downwards. And another kick!
Each strike packed more of a punch.
Each strike Saw felt something crack, even as he blocked with his arms.
Each attack he was close to blacking out.
But he was grinning throughout it all.
“YEAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!” Saw shouted as he unleashed a punch backed by his entire body.
Kirishima kept his footing firm on the ground. Even when Saw managed to punch and attempt to shove him down he barely budged. But he was wary for the Hammer of Burma. That was one move that could screw him up. He had limited time with Unbreakable, but doing this was whittling down Saw! There was no time to brace himself and try to outlast the enemy! It was a man to man fight!
“!”
A kick to the head, followed by a stomp. Saw had pushed himself out of his attack range. Even with his speed focus, Saw was faster. But as before, Saw was suffering more and more at each attack. Blood staining the ground from his foot.

“It hurts like hell!!” Saw panted, glancing at his hands. Blood. Cracks. His skeleton that people assume to be harder than steel. It was being damaged the more he hurt Kirishima who still had that armor on. He was the only person to ever do that without any weapons!!! “It really freaking hurts but you’re so badass!!!”
Saw stomped, charging in as fast as he can!
“MANLY AS HELL!!!”
A rotation using all the force in his left fist.

Kirishima guarded blocked it with his healthy hand, grunting as it cracked his limb armor.
But his motion had succeeded in cracking most of the fingers in Saw’s hand. The martial artist was wincing in pain… but with that he grabbed Kirishima’s hand with his broken one, and stomped. Aiming an uppercut for the jaw! That was his decision!
There was no escape!

CRACK!!!!

Thwarted by a kick to the knee!

“”A hit!!””

Saw gritted his teeth, slowing down. Had he lowered his armored form to speed up?? No it was still there! Kirishima had predicted him. But not much to think as a fist to the face and an uppercut sent him reeling. And a bear hug. A bear hug with this bad angle, with his leg half kneeling. One arm wrapped around him and preventing the use of his left arm. His right arm was stuck raised up and can be lowered but he can’t get a good attack on!

‘!? A chokehold??’
‘You use this on me!! It’s fine if I do this to you!’

Kirishima thought as he felt Saw punch his waist with his right arm. But this was it!! There wasn’t enough room to build momentum! Can’t use that speed nor that hard head of his!! Just an attempted chokehold!! The height advantage of Saw was being used against him! There was also the sound of something cracking as Saw felt the bear hug tighten! Pain!!! Incredibly painful!!!

‘You freaking adapted!! You really are a true man Kirishima!!’
““But!!! I can’t lose!!’””
‘You have no powers but keep on going!! You’re hero material Saw!!’

Kirishima gritted his teeth. There were cracks on his waist but he can take them! He’s gotta win! For the sake of hunting down Tomura!!

Saw let out a growl. His waist! His spine! Getting crushed! Something was gonna crack soon! His right hand was fully bleeding now.

““I have to-””

The ragged breathing ceased.
Kirishima felt the pressure lessen.

And Saw roared as he slammed down Kirishima’s body! From the air to the ground, back of the head first! The very ground shattering! Bits of Kirishima’s hardening scattering! Kirishima’s armored carapace splintering off. His face revealing a dazed look over Saw’s mangled right hand. To the very end he had tried to grab said arm and attempt to break it.
He succeeded.
Saw’s fingers were all dislocated and he was bloodshot with how much pain it was.

“You were a real man!!!”
But Saw wasn’t done. A firm stomp to the leg-breaking off most of the hardening. Kirishima for a brief moment saw that Saw’s familiar move. Ah. He wasn’t even going for an attempt to catch his breath? Kirishima had already moved his arms upwards, hardening it as much as he could.

“Kirishima!!”

Once more the crater has enlarged.
The sound of something broken.
Actual blood scattering.
An Unbreakable Vanguard defending against the Hammer of Burma.
But it wasn’t enough.
Kirishima laid there. Both arms broken and bent in an odd shape, his face showing no signs of consciousness. The hardened bits of it only enough to keep his face intact.
The hero was defeated.
Saw on the other hand looked there, arms slumping and clearly daze.
Blood leaking all over. His expression was blank and ragged. But he lifted his arm!
It was Saw Paing’s victory.

In a world full of heroes, some people won’t deny that watching a fight between Quirk users is thrilling. Whether it be between heroes and villains, heroes training and whatnot, the entertainment factor has greatly increased. People just love the idea of seeing superpowers in play especially if it means they have a chance of being able to do something similar. Just like with martial arts, people seek ways to show off in a way from time to time. Dangerous yes, but still enjoyable. For some at least.
So the Kengan Association was more than willing to take part in increasing the people’s enjoyment at this evolutionary bump.
This underground society handles underground fights that borders on being illegal so this was already raising some alarm bells to the actual hero associations and even the general consensus. Many look down upon on it for being such a barbaric method of fighting. Whether you have Quirks or just martial arts or other means to fight, these clashes are usually only for the sake of money and fame in the underworld. Only the greedy, arrogant, and the desperate fight in these deathly matches. That was the typical expectation for Kengan Association matches.
That couldn’t be anymore wrong.
Despite Kengan Matches being as bad flag raising as other underground societies, they’re well respected for keeping the law and being truthful. Organizations are able to fully come to an agreement whether it’s expensive buildings, pieces of arts, pieces of research, or even building rights. All of those are followed through and many fighters are handled with care, being accommodated in many ways. It’s in a way similar to how gladiators are treated in the past. Regardless of entertainment factor, their priorities rely on concluding deals and showing off their fighters while keeping them safe. Whether they be martial artists only or Quirk users. It’s a much more professional organization now compared to the past, which was the main reason why it has such a stigmata now. The past.
Really, just like the gladiators .
Of course, it’s not always the matches that one should focus on….
There’s always a faction that has an ulterior motive rising up from the shadows, moving about. Earning funds or fighters to recruit, those who want to mess with peace exist everywhere. It just can’t be helped. Which is what brings this small group right here...

“Kirishima….” Midoriya Izuku looked on at the crowd up ahead. Even if they’re still in the hallway away from them their cheers were loud. Were they that eager for Kirishima’s opponent? “Are you sure this is going to be alright? I know you’re allowed to use your Quirk but…”
“Relax!! I got this Deku!” A half clothed redhead shouted giving him a thumbs up. Eijiro Kirishima wasn’t fazed at all. “If we don’t act now we can’t find access to what we’re looking for!”
“I know but still…” Izuku was still hesitant. “I know everything’s set up to be fine but keep an eye out,”
That wasn’t entirely true.
Whatever injury happens to Kirishima will be his own doing, and if he were to die he would be dead. But Recovery Girl was here to help alongside a few skilled doctors. His survival was guaranteed as long as he lived through this fight and considering that Kirishima’s opponent was mostly a normal person well… Maybe he was being worried over nothing?
“Come on take it easy Deku!” A spiky white-haired fellow cheered, standing nearby and checking his scroll. “This is Kirishima we’re talking! He can take on explosions!! And even a hit from me! Full force!”
“Heh! Thanks! Seriously though don’t do that in public otherwise you might blow the place up! Which is sick too!! Manly!!”
“Yeaaaaaah!!”
“Also you two got my back anyway! Nothing bad’s gonna happen and I’ll call in quits once I’m knocked out.”
“But you can’t call in quits when you’re knocked out!”
“Exactly!”
Erch…. The two were getting loud now,
But for now, maybe he was getting worried over nothing. Izuku looked back at the crowd. Their opponent was over there too. Also getting ready? Definitely a physical fighter just from a glance alone. Doesn’t look like a bloodlusty fellow either so maybe-
“-Standing 170 cm!! He’s a newcomer but he already made a name for himself out there!! A fan favorite with his timely intervention for Agasaki Headlines-”
“Whoops! That’s my cue! Alright, time to go!” And there goes Kirishima rushing to the front. “Wish me luck guys!”
“-This is his first time debuting!! Give him a warm welcome as we have our first superhero join in!!-”
“Break a leg!”
“That’s not luck! That’s a threat!”

“-KIRISHIMA EIJIIIIIROOOOO!!”

“That’s the point!” Izuku chuckled, shaking his head at the whitette beside him. “But don’t worry about him Deku! I’m sure Kirishima’s got this. I mean sure you can train your ass till you can punch out boulders, but I’m sure it’s not the same for this place!”
“Well we can’t say anything on that for sure,” Izuku said back, now joining the front of the match. The announcers already introducing the fighters. It wasn’t as if he doesn’t have faith in his friend at all really. “I know Kirishima’s super strong with his Quirk. But if there’s people like Mirio who can get strong enough through training well… I guess we’ll see?”

However, they weren’t the only audience who knew each contender well. A spiky blonde and a man who had a very simple flat hairstyle watched on one corner.
“I feel bad for the kid man,” Rihito, the blonde one, said keeping a watch on Kirishima. Saw has yet to arrive and was waiting for that introduction “He’s about to get his ass whooped.”
“Don’t be,” Kaneda warned examining his scroll. One of the many devices nowadays in this place. “I hear that kid helped face Kendo Rappa before.”
“Who?”
“You really don’t know who’s fighting who...” Kaneda sighed. “It’s one of those strong Quirk users out there. Part of the Mafia and all. Someone Akoya’s even tracking.”
“Oh! Well, it’s not like this is the first time Saw faced someone with a superpower before heh. Remember me? And that Rei guy!”
“And he suffered badly against both…”

And on another end, a blonde woman and a hooded man stood there. One clearly bored while the other looking on.
“They got your eye or something pops?” The blonde one asked, more focused on her scroll. “You didn’t seem that hyped when that Ip and Li fellow fought.”
“Well now there’s superpowers in play so this can be fun,” Fung yu-Sau said calmly. “You should watch Yang, you might learn a thing or two from them.”
“Considering I’ve been whooping ass on whoever we face…”
“Not gonna last. We’ve been laying low. If we’re found out we’re going to have to deal with a lot of enemies stronger than us,”
“Right right. Well, here’s my view. Kid looks like he’s gonna be boxing, other one is a muay-thai guy. And the kid is probably more strategic.”
“Well, you’re not wrong.”

STOMP STOMP STOMP!!
Already he was running straight for the entrance.
Gotta make a dynamic entry!

The moment she finished shouting Saw shouted as he jumped out of the hallway and into the area. In a feat of impossibility, he nearly deafened the whole crowd, while they were shouting. Outscreaming them. Laughing as he waved at the crowd, and waiting for the announcer to gain their bearing. Really! This was great! Full house gets the blood pumping! Gaolang might be here too but for now it’s really great!
And ah! His opponent looks a bit spooked. Probably not used to this place! He’s a newcomer after all, best give him a warm welcome!
“Jesus I think I’m deaf, oh hold on folks, ears still ringing. It’s like a grenade!” Some of the audience laughed at the Announcer’s joke but Saw only waved at the kid.
“Kid I’m not gonna hold back on you alright!?” Straight to the point. Better make him know it so he won’t get spooked! Keep him distracted from being scared! “Even if you weren’t a superhero I’m gonna go at you full on! So bring it all on even with your superpower!!”
“If you’re gonna do that then I’ll do the same!!” Still, Kirishima felt pumped to go against someone like him. “Go all out on your martial arts on me!!”
“Yeah!!!! Alright!!! That’s how it’s gotta be! Man to man! Fist to fist!”
“You know, I really agree with you!”
The referee only had only one thought as the two took stances.
‘At least they’re getting along… And….. ’ Izuku only thought, holding his hands to his ears.

“Now all of you take your stance… and….
“FIGHT!!!!”

Not even a second.
Not even a second has passed and Saw had already shot towards Kirishima. The gap was cleared. The redhead had barely any time to react, only lifting his arms to guard. And so the attack slipped through and hit Kirishima right on the chest. The force was more than enough to send him flying, smashing through a pillar and onto the ground. Dust and concrete scattered upon impact, leaving the audience momentarily quiet as Kirishima’s crash went obscured.
Then the deafening cheer.

“WOOOOOOOH!!”
“Goddamn!”
“Is it over already!?”
“Kid didn’t stand a chance!”
“Oh he was cute… poor sidekick..”
“Nah no way! This is like one of those animes!”

The crowd cheered at another ‘decisive battle’, less concerned about the other’s safety. Everyone had high expectations after all. Which is some were quiet as they watched the dust cleared. Saw himself looked less surprised and more eager at what was rising up. Or rather what remained.
Kirishima was there in the same exact pose, not even dented, despite crashing through that pillar. Still standing unharmed. With that slight scowl on his face… until he started coughing, waving some of the dust cloud away.
“Oh man! I thought you guys use this place to fight all the time? It’s so dusty!”
He was fast. But he was just as fast in reacting. Reacting to explosions does that to you. He had managed to harden himself just in time. It was a feeling that if he didn’t, he would’ve taken heavy damage. Thankfully he didn’t but that was alarming… He felt that even through his Quirk.
Murmurs of awe were already scattering upon seeing Kirishima be just fine after that attack. A hero taking on the full force...
But for Saw?

“YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!”

Saw was even more excited and grinning, his shout blotting out any commentary the others could make. Kirishima was beginning to wonder if that was his Quirk. Even the crowd looked like they were really stunned, regulars and newcomers alike. In fact, even Kirishima was covering his ears.
“I knew you can take a punch!!” Saw shouted as he already charged in. “You got that look in your eyes! YEAAAAAAAAAH!!!”
“Thanks!!!” ‘Is that his quirk!?!? Are we sure he doesn’t have a Quirk!?’ Kirishima was honestly worried for the safety of his eardrums. Heck even when he shouted his thank you he couldn’t hear how his voice sounds! Maybe he really went slightly deaf or is it the crowd effect? Well.. nevermind that! Saw was getting close! Kirishima was ready this time. Hunched and in a guarded stance-
“ORYAAAAAAAAAH!!”
The first strike came forth! Kirishima grinned as he hardened again, not to the full use of his ability. Yet enough to tank this attack with no injury! Then the rain of punches came in. Once more he blocked! Alright, he’s ready! He can take-and again another batch.
And again.
And again.
“!!?”
Punch after punch after punch, they kept on coming! Even the punches were pushing him back. The concrete that he grounded his feet upon was cracking. Each punch tossed at him kicking up a shockwave that blew the air behind him. The referee who was at the side was getting disbalanced. His friend too had to cling to his hat to keep it from flying.
Punch after punch after punch after kick!
It wasn’t as if it was just a barrages of punches on the same spot. They kept changing on where they hit. The sudden kicks too shook the Quirk user. Kirishima couldn’t get a bead on where to block and had to use more and more of his Hardening to the point that his appearance is clearly different. But still-
Punch. Punch. Kick.

-Saw kept on attacking not slowing down. It’s not as if his attacks are getting stronger, but he just won’t stop!! It was frustrating!!
“HRAAAAH!”
And another hit! Stronger this time. This time Kirishima skidding back. Saw’s speed was overwhelming. But he was just pushing him back. Saw wasn’t exactly harming him. Sure, he’s great on actually keeping up but he’s got this. Technically he could keep on going with outlasting him, but that wouldn’t cut it. He had to hit back too otherwise he might run out of steam… Well, no. Honestly it might just be more out of not wanting to do just that. It wasn’t manly to do!
So when Saw closed in, Kirishima pulled back an arm and punched forward!
“!!!”
A direct hit! Full contact to the chest! Despite Saw’s speed he didn’t choose to dodge? Was that right? Kirishima thought he would be the dodging type? But either way it was a hit! Honestly there was a shockwave behind Saw as the Lethwei fighter reeled back. That single attack sent him back!
For a second.
Once more the waves recontinued. This time lifting Kirishima up in some of them-shit! Was he gonna be sent tumbling again!? It won’t hurt too much but if he followed up but there was just so many!!
“YAAAAAAA!!”
Once more, a sideway kick was what followed up. Coming out of nowhere to the side. Saw expected Kirishima to be sent skidding like before, but was left surprised as he saw Kirishima blocking the leg. At the same time, a fist struck Saw’s head sending him stepping back. Though he still grinned.

‘That’s awesome! This kid’s hella cool!!!’
“Thanks!!! You too!!!”

Oh! He shouted that by accident! But Saw tapped his cheek.
This hero guy’s arm was something else! He really felt that! The red guy looked steady and now has a kinda cool armor on him… Those are Quirks right? Awesome! They’re just like what he can do! A superpower thingy that makes them stronger! Yeah! If he could fight guys like that more it would be great!
This guy wasn’t the best martial artist but his superpower was awesome! Manly as hell!! Being like an unbreakable wall!

Kirishima had started to back off, not really trying to avoid the attacks but more attempting to make it harder for Saw to hit him. Or at least exert more force to reach him. It wasn’t too successful but he’s getting more used to timing his hardening so that he won’t get hit too hard. But still… was he even doing damage? He wouldn’t stop attacking even if he takes a hit.
And Kirishima knew he hits hard!
So it must be his martial art or technique or something! Maybe his Quirk is actually that? No wait, no, don’t assume it. Right now he needs to focus on getting his Hardening on time.
As long as he could keep the timing-ah!! Saw was charging in! Raised fist! Kinda obvious, but this time he’ll meet him with that then! Kirishima began to charge forward raising his fist-
SLAM!!!
Saw’s fist met Kirishima’s.
This time the shockwave was really felt across making everyone stumble back!!! A head-on man to man clash of equal power and speed!

Is what was expected to happen.
Instead, Kirishima’s attack did reach Saw, but due to the difference of their arm length his attack just barely missed. Once more he was pushed to defend as Saw comboed from that. And a heavy offense met a heavy defense.

But as before it was the same situation. Saw attacking and attacking. The crowd’s cheers were dying down a bit to Kirishima’s hearing. Oh man. He could actually hear it. The sound of flesh hitting concrete again and again. As if hammers were chipping at rock. It only repeated and repeated, the almost rhythmic sound accompanied by Saw’s battle cries. Kirishima could get some good hits but it wasn’t always a guarantee. He couldn’t build enough force before being swarmed by attacks that keep pushing him back. So...
“Ah-?”
-he grabbed Saw by the waist in a tackle, partially lifted him, and slammed him down!! This is despite the numerous strikes aimed at his head. The ground cracking from the impact alone and Kirishima backing off as Saw remained there. Did that daze him? Usually he would’ve attacked already but this guy wasn’t a bad guy. It wasn’t really his style to beat someone while they’re down if they weren’t a villain…
Not to mention he was still dazed from all those hammerings.
Not to mention stressful for his Hardening.
Every moment counts and he needs a breath.

“Hey kiddo!!”
Kiddo?
Saw hopped back on his feet, not even slowed down. Did he just shrug that off?? No, he has to have taken some damage right? … Yeah. He did look a bit bruised but was he just walking it off? Was it really just tenacity? …. Likely tenacity considering how there’s blood leaking from his forehead.
Hell, that’s manly.
“You can’t do that! You’re holding back on me!”
“Eh?” Holding back? Wait, does he know about Unbreakable? He was known for his Quirk so it won’t be a surprise but…
“Yeah, when a fighter’s down you gotta keep fighting and all!!” Saw’s tone was loud but not as deafening as before. He still had that energy despite looking pumped- no wait he was breathing hard. He was just that excited? “I mean if you fight bad guys they’re gonna be cheap against you too!! Might feel cheap but not so much when you’re fighting for your life!”
“Huh,” Kirishima knew that actually. He remembered. He and Fatgum almost lost to two villains because they were a hard counter to the two alongside bad matchups. They only won because those two started fighting due to Rappa’s code of honor. But it made sense. He always thought of it…. So he was actually willing to go for it but here in this Kengan fight? Anything goes. “You sure? Anything goes?”
“It feels kinda unfair if only one of us goes all out!!” Saw shouted bumping his chest. “And sides!!! Is it manly to not take someone seriously!?”

“I can’t hear a thing or see a thing… What are they doing Rihito?”
“Want me to lift you up?”
“What? No! Just tell me what you’re seeing.”
“It looks like they’re talking…. Maybe Saw’s explaining his technique to the kid and the kid’s doing the same. Like you know, in one of those animes.”
“I feel like you’re very wrong.”

That’s right…
“You’re right,” Kirishima nodded in realization. Well, against others they wouldn’t agree to this logic. But this guy’s fighting in the same way as him! It’s not fair to hold back!! Not manly at all and makes it look like you’re pitying or dismissing the guy! Yeah! “Alright then!! Well I’ll use my trump card for you later then but I won’t hold back anymore!”
It was probably fine to use Unbreakable just in case. There was no way this guy was going to die if he could take this much damage.
“YEAAAAH!!! Awesome! I’ll do the same to you!! The manly way!!”

OPM Battle
Odd agreements here and there. But it wasn’t just small talk.
It gave Kirishima ample time to catch his breath. Every moment off of his hardening helps.
And now…. Saw charged in again. The same tactic. The same stance. So Kirishima did the same, and hardened himself. Turning himself into a full on ram. Saw’s punch in turn ended up slowing Kirishima, but his slam actually sent Saw reeling. This allowing for an uppercut!!
“!!”
Saw had stumbled back from the uppercut, actually looking dazed from the hit. An opportunity! Kirishima was already hammering, delivering speedy jabs. It wasn’t as if he wasn’t focusing on defense, but right now he was all on offense. He wasn’t just a shield anymore. He had to be a spear! Never let up!
“ORYAAAA!!” Kirishima shouted as he pulled back his arm and swung! A sudden strong one!
Finishing off with another punch to the head!!! Headshots are working!! A full force punch that hit point on!!
But uh… Wait. Kirishima had slowed down. His eyes was on his fist that he just attacked with. The hardening was cracked- no wait, shattered? It was actually shattered! No blood but- when did it break!? When he punched-
“ALRIIIIIGHT!!!!”
One part of Kirishima wanted to scream back. The other part wanted to tell Saw to stop since people might go deaf. Both are hard to do when a full forced fist hit you point on the face. Armor or not, it hurt!! More so than the others? That wasn’t just from the shouting either! Kirishima kicked his foot up hitting something, likely Saw’s chest, but was struck aside by a side blow!
His balance was shaken as he was sent rolling, but even as that happened a foot struck him and sent him rolling further.
‘What the??’ Still, Kirishima managed to get back on his feet. Only to receive a leg to the side of his face. This one budged him but his Hardening shrugged it off. Now back to the clear armored form. ‘His attacks are getting-’ Kirishima grabbed Saw’s arm as he punched downwards, and pulled the Burmese fighter down. Once more Saw’s head decorated the ground with another crater. Unlike before Kirishima punched downwards before he can get up, but it was grabbed by Saw’s hand. Both forced to stand up and face each other. ‘They’re not stronger but??’
Now neither can punch the other. But kicks?
“ORYA!!!”
Kicks kept coming.
Kirishima should be able to shrug them off. As expected due to their gripping stance Saw can only aim for most of his lower body. His Hardening had focused there and these fortifications should be. He can take on armored giant robots like this after all if he focused.

Crack

Yet he buckled. His stance lowered slightly. Eyes wide.
An elbow struck hard against his face. Wince-inducing, but tolerable. But cracks had formed.
Whatever was happening has to stop!
“GRAAAAH!!” Kirishima shouted as he straightened up and delivered a kick of his own. A blow that reached Saw’s leg. Saw did kneel slightly, but only clung tighter and elbowed his face again. Aiming for that same section. The same vulnerable fragment. Though that had to cease as Kirishima stiffened his arms, preventing Saw from attacking again and was now trying to squish Saw’s arm.
This earned Kirishima several knees to the crotch.
It… didn’t hurt shockingly. But it was very uncomfortable. And the sensation of something cracking there wasn’t good. The damage was building up.

There were a few factors that influenced the sudden advantage and only few of the audience noticed it.

Reach, joints, and techniques. Saw was aggressive and willing to take the hits, but he wasn’t just taking them all on. He was capitalizing on his arm length, being a full adult, over Kirishima’s younger and slightly shorter reach. That gap between 184 and 170 was enough. While Kirishima could hit Saw, he could also hit him back first and weaken his attack. Even if the hero was stronger and sturdier he had to exert more to reach him.

With his joints having to be open to allow for him to attack. His defense was amazing when steady, but he had to loosen himself up to move faster. So if one were to time themselves with their speedy attacks on those defenses, those cracks will build up and cause pause.

But those are the minor factors. Both contenders knew this. That’s why Kirishima latched onto Saw. There was a central deciding one for all these advantages.

With a loud cry, Kirishima began to slam his head down repeatedly. Numerous headbutts in a row. Roaring as he does so. Any villain on the receiving end of this would end up with a concussion or worse. But Kirishima felt this guy could take it. So when he pulled back, he was a bit surprised when he saw fragments of his hardened face fall off. It was refortifying itself as if it harmed itself.
Which was confusing as Saw only had a bloodier forehead. Alongside a grin.
“You do those too!?!? Awesome!! Here’s mine!!!”
And he was about to do the same… Kirishima steeled himself for the upcoming headbutt-yet felt an odd sense of…
!!

HAMMER OF BURMA!!

Saw coughed.
A bit of a daze but overall fine. This kid was really sturdy! Had to take a step back to make sure he was away from Kirishima, his arms now free. His headbutt had hit point on. It should’ve crushed any enemy in front of him. But as he stepped back he could see full on that the redhead was standing!! Face undamaged and looking badass!! (Saw’s thoughts) Though he was left a bit dazed that was something!!
“Hoh!”
It was awesome! This was the first time someone actually took on the Hammer of Burma!.... But…
“Tch! Damn…” Kirishima’s arm? Not so much. He had blocked with one arm and it looked broken. Maybe mangled? It didn’t look right and the hardening was shattered. It can definitely be patched up and him using his elbow joints to defend helped. But still damaged. He’s gutsy as hell!! He has the makings of a Kengan Fighter if that didn’t even hurt him! Well it clearly did but it didn’t bother him!
“Your… your head is freaking hard isn’t it!??”
“Yeah!!!!!” Saw laughed as he tapped his knuckles on his forehead.

“I'm suuuuper hard you know!!”

Ah.

Looking at Kirishima’s blank face.
The audience got quiet too. Super quiet. That could’ve been worded differently.
“Ahahaha! My bad!!” Saw raised his arms at the crowd, earning some chuckles and giggles. “But yeah! My skull is super hard kid!! Gotta protect the brain and all!!! Think with your body, attack with your head!!!”
“I don’t think that was ever a saying...” Deku muttered from afar.
“I don’t think that was ever a saying!!” Kirishima shouted, cracking his knuckles, and wincing. “But that’s your Quirk then!?”
He was mostly shouting to dull out the pain and distract himself.
“Quirk? Oh! The superpower! Yeah!!” Saw knocked on his head. “Hardhead, hard bones and all! Well, I kinda trained it! Meanwhile, you’re all about super armor right? Like a golem!”
“Well, hardening! But that’s kinda right! Harden any part of the body!!”
Both weren’t just conversing for show. They wanted to get a breather from that ‘head clash’.... But they also partly wanted to show off and want to know what the other can specifically do.
“Wait then your loud shouting… Is that a Quirk too?”
“NOOPE!!!!!” There goes someone’s ear drums. “Just feeling really awesome fighting you!! That’s why!! Cause you’re one of the manliest fighters I ever fought Kirishima!! You’re top Kengan Class material!”
It wasn’t a taunt nor a challenge. A sincere compliment! Kirishima definitely looked determined to Saw’s eyes. It reminded him of many fighters he fought before! Those who knew they can push their limits! The crowd murmured among themselves. Despite that injury Kirishima had only complained about it once. In fact he was grinning back. Well, he winced time to time but that’s forgiven.
“Thanks Saw!! Well you’re a pretty awesome guy too!! You should definitely be a hero if you want! Sides!” Kirishima glanced at the crowd that was actually getting riled up. “There’s no way a hero can just give up midway even with a broken arm! A hero can’t back down on saving someone because of a small injury!”

“Like Deku!”
“Asta…”

“A real man’s gotta finish what he started,” Kirishima shouted, almost mimicking Saw’s volume. Which seemed to shock- or seemingly deafen most of the crowd. Bringing up his free fist he gestured. “So let’s go!!”
“Hell yeah!!! But I’m not gonna hold back!!”
“That’s fine!! I get it!!”
Kirishima took a deep breath and looked at his arm. He could still move it but swinging with it is gonna be hard. Fortifying it for attacks would make it still hurt like hell. This match has been going past 5 minutes was it? Should he risk Unbreakable now and take him head on? Or does he have anym other trump cards in his head?... No. Think with your own head first. Look at the enemy.
Over there Saw hadn’t attacked yet. Did that headbutt mess him up more than he thought or was he just being patient? He was hurt by his other attacks so it’s gonna work. Both of them can keep going. Same for him, likely worse considering he’s actually taking damage. Alright. There’s an idea. If he can time it for that headbutt, Unbreakable might decide this match. But for now…

Kirishima took a fighting stance, forcing his mangled arm up… and he shouted.
“LET’S GO!!”
“HRAAAAAAH!!”
Charge in!!! This renewed vigor gave him energy to close in the distance and Saw was left grinning. If anything, seeing how the injury wasn’t slowing down Kirishima was making him more excited. But by taking the initiative Saw can’t build up the momentum. So the loud shouter had to assume a stance...
Leap into the face of danger. Get rid of the reach advantage!! Don’t let him initiate!!
And Saw punched forward! Easy to hit the redhead considering he was charging straight on, his fist slamming into Kirishima’s shoulder. Yet to his surprise it was deflected as Kirishima closed in. Did he... Did he parry his punch with his shoulder?

But Saw followed with a knee in that quick second dodge. This one hitting Kirishima’s broken arm! Broken… fortified arm?

This was perfect.
Saw was disbalanced in that position. The fighter had hoped to create some distance but this was the worst case scenario. Kirishima stomped on the ground, cracking it, and spun his body fullforce. A full on uppercut to the jaw! The Kengan fighter was almost sent flying if not for Kirishima grabbing his arm and pulling on the ground. Clearly dazed. Blacking out for half a second. Blood spat out from his mouth. More damage than before!

If his skull is strong, aim for the jaw!!

From that pull Kirishima’s arm moved to quick jabs. An uppercut from this angle was bad. But with this he should be fine!! If he’s this close he can keep on attacking! Saw was swinging his arms too and now preventing him from hitting his jaw but there wasn’t enough momentum on them so he can take it! This was how a true man fights!! Nothing cheap!!
“REEEEED GAUN-”
A punch interrupted Kirishima’s shout. Cracking more of his face. Saw had recovered and was steadying even in that bad angle and-
“-COUNTER!!"
-Saw was sent reeling to the side despite him raising his arm to block. Kirishima’s attack had got through! A clear bruise on Saw’s arm as he stumbled. Tossing several jabs forward he struck clear, but began to miss as Kirishima ducked and weaved before delivering a punch to the solar plexus. Saw winced and slowed, but managed to muster up a knee!!
His own knee was matched by Kirishima’s.
And a punch to the face sent him back. He was taking hit after hit. Not of a continuous stream like his, but heavy hit after hit! A delay each time that didn’t matter due to his confusion. With Saw disbalanced, he can’t use his headbutt either. Unless he can get good footing there would be no Hammer of Burmas coming.
So Kirishima kept tossing punch after punch, twisting his body for more force!
“He has a good fighting instinct. He switched to Infighting immediately.”
“Huh… The way of fighting an enemy up close?” Yang muttered. “Guess that’s one way to shake off the distance and reach.”
“Indeed. He had moved to dispersing the attacks most of the time and I dare say using his enemy’s striking power to propel him to better speeds.”
“Really? Thought he was just finally boxing or something.”
“Well true. But if it was just that it won’t be enough. There’s still after all the speed.”

LATCH
Ah.

Saw was still reeling back and unsteady, but the stance of his head. Despite having one foot on the ground his grip on Kirishima was enough. He was going to use his own upper body strength to bring himself down.
Saw’s next Hammer of Burma was imminent!!

Kirishima curled, ceasing his barrage and bringing both arms up. Wincing in pain as he lifted that same broken arm. Going full on. At the very least he can harden this as much as possible-
Swiff.

“Ah.”

Wait. By defending what’s above-
Saw had crouched, not using his trademark ability.

“Cra-”

A full force knee. It was a feint. Saw had moved from the Hammer of Burma straight into a flying knee kick straight to his jaw. With Saw holding him down he couldn’t move back and the force was increased. Fragments and cracks had formed. Not to mention just as dazed. Kirishima backing off- but was hounded by Saw tossing in the assortment of attacks again.

But unlike before Kirishima held his ground. Unmoving and unflinching as each attack came and came. Punch to the gut, kicks to the knee, elbow to the face. He took it all in like a shield. For the first time Saw had to back off from his own attack rush without any hits, visibly frustrated. His hands raised and revealing blood on the knuckles. Though there were many cracks on Kirishima’s body, the armor-like carapace was making it hard to get through each time. Despite him playing defense Saw was heading to self-destruction because of this tactic. Kirishima’s own Hardening had increased in tandem. He had timed his hardening even at the joints!

It almost seemed to regenerate really. A bit frustrating. Even if it wasn’t truly that.
“Gotta take him out in one go…” Saw muttered softly. “Can’t get through properly…”
Of course, one Hammer of Burma can blow through that.
Then again he could just catch a breather. He needs timing too.
As right now, both are watching the other. Prepared to react.

It didn’t take long for one to move. Kirishima stepped forward, the ground cracking at the weight of his force. A reckless move against anyone else. But to Saw? It was a challenge. So he charged, doing the exact same move. Each one using the full force of their body weight to rotate and strike.

The result was an actual cross counter. Each fist impacting head on.
Kirishima’s face practically shattered, this one hurts even more.
But Saw fell to his knees.

‘Anything goes!’ And so he charged and followed with jab after jab! Loosening his Hardening to at least allow for his speed to be of match. Considering how Saw looked dazed again, he wasn’t going to let him recover! Aiming for the jaw was hard with his hunched stance but as long as he’s hitting the body! Wear him down!! He was damaging him!-

Woah!!

SLAM!

Kirishima grunted as he crashed, now pressed on the ground. Saw’s legs wrapped around him and his arms wrapped around his neck. With this angle it was impossible to escape. Saw had gotten on tap and was attempting to crush him. Cracks-something was cracking!

What can you do to someone more durable than you?
If your attacks aren’t getting through or you’re unable to use any of your preferred attacks?
Saw wasn’t one to grapple as it wasn’t his specialty but it was doable. In a place like Kengan Matches or, well any other situation against superpowered enemies… you have to do whatever it takes to win! Any tactic is fair game. Pressure points, cheap attacks, ambushes, chokeholds.

Those weren’t his style.
He too shared the same thinking process as Kirishima in the idea of a manly fight.
So the best he can do?
Attempt to deny him from getting the chance to harden and regenerate! (His thinking process) Pin him down and get time to recover, and make him go down!
With Kirishima pressing down and his front facing down, it was hard to get up. His broken arm was already pushing against the ground and was inducing more pain than it should. An accidental benefit. While his other arm tried to weakly punch and push Saw, but couldn’t muster the strength or momentum due to the angle. Or at least he couldn’t reach him properly.
Saw couldn’t choke him. The angle and his own fighting style prevented that. Not to mention Kirishima’s own hardening was now focused on the neck. He wasn’t that desperate as in his fight with Rei. But he still didn’t want to kill the kid.

But a hero doesn’t go down without using his trump card.
“HRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!”
Kirishima was roaring at a volume almost louder than Saw.
Slowly getting back up. The sensation of his broken arm being pressed down lessening and giving him more strength. The fortitude to rise up… But more importantly loosening Saw’s position as the sharp edges of Kirishima’s body began to pierce slightly. Before he could properly get away, Kirishima leapt backwards! Straight towards a pillar!
The two of them crashing through and this time sending them both rolling.

But when both of them got up, there was something different.
Saw was glancing at his bloody hands as he… noticed Kirishima get up too. Neither were really hurt by the pillar crash but man… That sight of the hero using the full power of his Quirk. The sight of it…

“What is that?”
Saw actually asked in an almost quiet tone.
Eyes wide in awe as Kirishima took ragged breaths, not really from injury but more from nearly being deprived of oxygen. Though seeing Saw’s expression calmed him down. A slight smile forming.
“It’s Unbreakable! My Quirk!! My super power!!!” Usually Kirishima wouldn’t even consider giving a monologue of his ability but as a matter of respect to someone like Saw… Sides, oxygen deprivation can leave you wanting to breathe a bit more. “If it’s not obvious, well! I’m harder than before-”

“You’re AWESOOOOOOOOOOOME!”
Oh.
Or he could just shout out now.
“That’s freaking awesome!!! You’re like the Hulk or something hahaha!!! Alright!!!!! Let’s go then!!!!!!”
Not much time to even give exposition as Saw was already charging in.
“ALRIGHT THEN!!!!”

And threw a jab at Saw’s face.
Speed was the focus. Saw had mistakenly assumed Kirishima was just going to take all the blows he could. That was a wrong move. And for a moment he lost his trail of thought. Which left him wide open to a jump knee kick. Followed by an arm chop downwards. And another kick!
Each strike packed more of a punch.
Each strike Saw felt something crack, even as he blocked with his arms.
Each attack he was close to blacking out.
But he was grinning throughout it all.
“YEAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!” Saw shouted as he unleashed a punch backed by his entire body.
Kirishima kept his footing firm on the ground. Even when Saw managed to punch and attempt to shove him down he barely budged. But he was wary for the Hammer of Burma. That was one move that could screw him up. He had limited time with Unbreakable, but doing this was whittling down Saw! There was no time to brace himself and try to outlast the enemy! It was a man to man fight!
“!”
A kick to the head, followed by a stomp. Saw had pushed himself out of his attack range. Even with his speed focus, Saw was faster. But as before, Saw was suffering more and more at each attack. Blood staining the ground from his foot.

Continuous interruption → Finish him off quickly → At least tire him out

“It hurts like hell!!” Saw panted, glancing at his hands. Blood. Cracks. His skeleton that people assume to be harder than steel. It was being damaged the more he hurt Kirishima who still had that armor on. He was the only person to ever do that without any weapons!!! “It really freaking hurts but you’re so badass!!!”
Saw stomped, charging in as fast as he can!
“MANLY AS HELL!!!”
A rotation using all the force in his left fist.

Kirishima guarded blocked it with his healthy hand, grunting as it cracked his limb armor.
But his motion had succeeded in cracking most of the fingers in Saw’s hand. The martial artist was wincing in pain… but with that he grabbed Kirishima’s hand with his broken one, and stomped. Aiming an uppercut for the jaw! That was his decision!
There was no escape!

CRACK!!!!

Saw gritted his teeth, slowing down. Had he lowered his armored form to speed up?? No it was still there! Kirishima had predicted him. But not much to think as a fist to the face and an uppercut sent him reeling. And a bear hug. A bear hug with this bad angle, with his leg half kneeling. One arm wrapped around him and preventing the use of his left arm. His right arm was stuck raised up and can be lowered but he can’t get a good attack on!

‘!? A chokehold??’
‘You use this on me!! It’s fine if I do this to you!’

Kirishima thought as he felt Saw punch his waist with his right arm. But this was it!! There wasn’t enough room to build momentum! Can’t use that speed nor that hard head of his!! Just an attempted chokehold!! The height advantage of Saw was being used against him! There was also the sound of something cracking as Saw felt the bear hug tighten! Pain!!! Incredibly painful!!!

‘You freaking adapted!! You really are a true man Kirishima!!’
““But!!! I can’t lose!!’””
‘You have no powers but keep on going!! You’re hero material Saw!!’

Kirishima gritted his teeth. There were cracks on his waist but he can take them! He’s gotta win! For the sake of hunting down Tomura!!

Saw let out a growl. His waist! His spine! Getting crushed! Something was gonna crack soon! His right hand was fully bleeding now.

““I have to-””

““WIN!!””
STOMP!!
A stomp on the ground.
The ragged breathing ceased.
Kirishima felt the pressure lessen.
Kirishima was lifted off the ground.
Saw had stood up with his remaining foot and grabbed Kirishima’s face.

“ORYAAAAAAAAAAAA!”
And Saw roared as he slammed down Kirishima’s body! From the air to the ground, back of the head first! The very ground shattering! Bits of Kirishima’s hardening scattering! Kirishima’s armored carapace splintering off. His face revealing a dazed look over Saw’s mangled right hand. To the very end he had tried to grab said arm and attempt to break it.
He succeeded.
Saw’s fingers were all dislocated and he was bloodshot with how much pain it was.

“You were a real man!!!”
But Saw wasn’t done. A firm stomp to the leg-breaking off most of the hardening. Kirishima for a brief moment saw that Saw’s familiar move. Ah. He wasn’t even going for an attempt to catch his breath? Kirishima had already moved his arms upwards, hardening it as much as he could.

“Kirishima!!”

Once more the crater has enlarged.
The sound of something broken.
Actual blood scattering.
An Unbreakable Vanguard defending against the Hammer of Burma.
But it wasn’t enough.
Kirishima laid there. Both arms broken and bent in an odd shape, his face showing no signs of consciousness. The hardened bits of it only enough to keep his face intact.
The hero was defeated.
Saw on the other hand looked there, arms slumping and clearly daze.
Blood leaking all over. His expression was blank and ragged. But he lifted his arm!
It was Saw Paing’s victory.
