Description Having accepted Cobalt’s mission to go ahead and take his stuff back from the sheriff’s office, Oblivion and Scrutiny soon found themselves regretting that entire decision. Sure at first they’d accepted the request out of pure curiosity, wondering what was hidden in that bag and wondering what they’d get in return for getting it back. Heck, if it was really cool they could keep it for themselves! At least, that was something that Scrutiny was considering. Oblivion didn’t care all that much. And so the two decided the easiest way to retrieve the item without being seen was to go into the office through the sewers. Nobody ever expected that! When the went down to the shoreline to find the large exit pipe, they were able to easily realize why nobody used these pipes for such nefarious purposes. They were gross, smelled terrible, and at times there wasn’t even a higher ledge to walk along, leading to the two needing to get covered in… Very gross stuff while trekking through. That reward better be great, because at that point they’d walked so far that turning around just wasn’t worth it.

When they got close enough to the office they could hear some arguing up above, albeit not able to recognize either of the voices. However, from the argument that was taking place it was pretty obvious that one of the two was the sheriff and the other was someone that had broken a law. It was something about public intoxication, but the two could easily care less. If that Staxie saw them, chances were nobody would believe him anyhow! As the other staxie stayed in their cell and the sheriff went over to his desk, taking his eyes off of the grates in the floor, Scrutiny and Oblivion made their move.

Carefully opening up the grate closest to the location of the items, Scrutiny stuck up his head and surveyed the area only to see that this other grate was VERY close to the sheriff. Well, they had to do something to get him away from the bag they were supposed to grab. Scrabbling over to a farther grate in the floor, Scrutiny rattled the metal object, making a loud and obvious sound that successfully attracted the attention of the Staxie. The plaque on the desk said Gayley. Yeah, that was probably their name. As Scrutiny did so, Oblivion stayed back to the garten closest to the items, and when Gayley’s ears perked up, and he investigated the sound, Oblivion carefully crawled out of the grate. He had to grab the bag without making a sound, return to the sewers, and hope that the sheriff wouldn’t know any better. Luckily, Oblivion’s feathers somehow muffled all the sound he made as he crept over to Gayley’s desk and grabbed the bag. It was heavier than he thought it would’ve been, but they could see what was in it once they were in the clear. With a few more careful steps Oblivion was able to slink back into the vents, and back into the sewer systems.
