"I don't hold my liquor well, and when it comes back out the way it came in I'm aiming for your shoes," seems to shut people up.
Personally I don't drink because both sides of my family have health problems out the wazoo, and I'm happier not spending half my time in hospitals.

tch.
I don't drink because of health reasons.
Period.
I'm not a recovering alcoholic. None of my friends or family had alcohol problems.
But I'm not stupid. I know what alcohol does to your brain and body, and I know very well that I can have a perfectly enjoyable time without screwing around with my own brain.

Do people accept it when you say that? They never accept it if I say it :/ they start going "oh come on, one drink wont hurt" or they go and buy me one and then moan at me about being "ungreatful" if I don't drink it :/
Maybe I just have rubbish friends lol

Most people do accept it the first time, unless they're already drunk, in which case I ignore their opinions anyway. haha.

God that is so spot on. When was on a diet (know completely differerent), ordered tonic - go on have a vodka in that, I don't want one thanks... oh don't be boring have a vodka! Grrrrr doesn't it drive you mad?
You should come up with some wierd medical condition like an allergy to alcohol - that would shut them up.

well technically I shouldn't drink on my meds anyway, but if I say that then the whole "oh, why are you on medication?" topic comes up which sometimes can be worse than the "why don't you drink?" one lol

I hear you, I take meds too and shouldn't drink but am totally not drinking much these days anyways. I'm happy to say I don't want a drink these days and hope you get to that stage too.

I've never tried alcohol and never will, my closest friends are fine with it but other people always wonder why and think I have an issue with it.
This rings true with me so like it a lot

I don't drink, and people have reacted almost with shock when I tell them. It's so strange.
Very interesting text, with the ending. I like it.

One thing I really don't like about going out is that people are always drinking, even if its just 1 or 2 beers or cocktails at a restaurant. And thats fine, others can drink but for some reason some people insist that everyone have a drink too. And I frequently get questioned as to why I don't drink. And sometimes people can make me feel guilty for not drinking. lol then I'm like what the hell? why should I be made to feel guilty and excluded simply because I'm a recovering drug/alcohol addict? >.< I hate having to explain this to people that either I barely know or just met. I get a lot of comments like "You don't drink? Thats weird." I agree that the added pressure from people is unnecessary when you're already struggling internally... there have been a couple of times when I just order a beer so people will leave me alone. Then I just give it away to someone I'm with. lol some people just don't get it.

Yeah.. I don't drink because of meds, and someone who knew this still nagged me into having a drink in may >.< It really, really sucked.

I'm a slowly-changing teetotaller (I only drink because one of our system members sorely misses the taste), and I feel that I've been very lucky that I've been surrounded by friends who respected me saying, "No thanks, I don't drink."
At one time, I was at a party where alcohol was flowing freely, and I only knew one person there. Apparently he spread the word (he was hosting), because one of his buddies asked if he could get me something to drink, I said, "Oh, I don't drink," to which he responded, "I know, I meant water."
It was a nice moment.

Yeah, I've known awesome people. It's people like that guy there that keep me an optimist.
My brother will apparently do the, "Why don't you drink?" thing with me. But then, he and I are on opposite ends of the personality spectrum.

Just be like "why you want me to drink so bad, you trying to slip me something you douche?"
No but really, congratulations on choosing to recover. You don't have to be drunk to have fun.
