She turned away and began to walk home. For a brief moment the space between the two felt like a fissure slowly growing wider with Nelly's every step. It was now or never.
"Wait!"
Lucas rushed over to Nelly's side. Before she could fully turn around, Lucas had her locked into a comfortable, surprising kiss, hands gently holding her startled face. The air was both warm and cold at the same time. Both chilled and warmed, Nelly relaxed and let the affectionate ambience surround her and the ghost while the world slowed down around them.
