Description
Wesley turned the heat up in the car, shivering again. The cold snap had hit hard and fast and brought with it a small blizzard. Each gust of wind threatened to blow the trailer, which was still hitched to the truck, off the road. Initially when Wesley had climbed back into the truck his body had still been coursing with adrenaline. For the first 10 minutes of the drive he hadn't even noticed the cold, now he wished that he'd grabbed his gloves on the way out the door. Another gust of wind hit the truck and trailer forcing Wesley to tighten his grip on the wheel.

By this time the snow was falling so hard that Wes could barely see. He had slowed the truck to all but a crawl. As he came around a bend he noticed a dark object in the road, but he couldn’t make out what it was due to the snow. Gently applying the break, so as not to cause a skid, he stopped the truck and flipped on his high-beams. What he saw nearly broke his heart. In the middle of the road was a foal, he estimated no older than 6 months. The poor thing was curled with its back to the wind, shivers racking its body.

Not wasting a second Wesley opened his door and stepped out of the truck, his boots crunching in the snow. Quietly to avoid spooking it, though he doubted it had the energy to continue on, he made his way to the back of the trailer and lowered the ramp. He wished desperately that he was driving Meadow Lark’s Featherlight trailer which had heating and cooling units in the horse’s area. However that had been used to transport a few Taos Forest Horses back to MLS. Stepping into the trailer he grabbed the emergency halter and blanket they kept in a kit. His fingers were nearly frozen by the time he finished collecting what he needed, Wesley couldn’t imagine how cold the horse must be.

Speaking softly he approached the exhausted animal.

“Easy there,” he said over the whistling of the storm, “What happened to you little one?”

The horse rolled an eye towards him before tucking its head further towards its chest to avoid the wind.

“I don’t blame you baby, it’s bad out huh?” He kept his voice soft and reassuring while he continued to move slowly towards the exhausted horse. It didn’t even flinch when he knelt and touched its shoulder. Slipping the halter on gently he encouraged the horse to stand. That took more convincing as the horse barely had any motivation to continue on. Rubbing its snow covered neck and shoulder he eventually got a response as the horse shakily rose to its feet. After a quick check it was easy to tell this was a female. He couldn’t easily place the blanket on her and hold her so he held off until he could get her secured in the trailer.

“Easy pretty girl,” he said, gently pulling the halter in an attempt to coax her back to the trailer. He had no idea if she was trailer trained or not, he just hoped that either way her state of exhaustion would keep her from spooking or acting up. The filly didn’t even attempt to cause problems when they got the ramp she just slowly climbed inside after him. Once she was secure Wesley cautiously placed the blanket on her back. The little one shivered again and rested her head against Wesley’s chest.
“Don’t worry sweetheart, I’ll get you to safety.”

Securing the ramp of the trailer Wesley whipped out his cell phone as he climbed back into the cab.
“Daisun, I need you to get Adalia and the Featherlight trailer and get to the TFH property immediately. I found a young filly on the road out here, no brand that I can see, and she’s in bad shape.”
Daisun didn’t question him, but instead hung up and called the vet for MLS.

Wesley then placed a call to Howard and Charlene, Howard answered.
“Howard it’s Wesley, I found a filly out on the road, no brand and not a TFH. I need you to get some heated blankets ready and meet me at the property. She’s in bad shape.”

Gripping the wheel Wesley pulled forward, driving slowly through the blizzard.
“Hang in there little one, just a little longer.”

This is the third installment of Fawn's story . It took a long time to finish it, and it wouldn't have gotten there with ~DangerOwl I swear missy you're behind the making of all my images now .
