Description Past

Gunshots fired off in the distance
I wonder what good it will bring
For even if this war is won
Bloodshed on either side is still being done.

Freedom is the answer in question
Liberation is the purpose in fighting
For our actions could change what happens tomorrow
But today, all I can feel is a certain sorrow.

Some of us will live to see the new dawn
Some of us will go on to tell stories to their children and grandchildren
Some of us will keep this memory alive
And some of us will not survive.

Some of us lay broken
With wounds that won't heal
Some of us are forever crippled
The memories of war will surely keep them shackled.

Some of us lay dying
Passing on last requests for loved ones
And some of us will never get that chance to say
I love you, good bye, I wish I had another day.

Some of us are already dead
Time cut so unfairly short
Can we truly say we won the war and smile
While the death toll of enemies, allies and prisoners continues to pile.

Future

The memories are fading
But our children's freedom has been won
Can I entrust them to remember
The Eleventh of November?

Your freedom was never free
In fact, it was very costly
Hundreds of thousands of soldiers dead from the fight
Many did not go into a gentle good night.

Many prisoners treated like animals
or far worse while living in fear
Some were beaten, starved or so sick, they couldn't bear it anymore
And some were shot with no question of what for.

It doesn't cost you anything
To stop and say thank you for everything
To feel grateful and happy for being safe and free
Being appreciative is all I ask you to be.

Please have a moment of silence
Please wear a poppy
Please say a prayer
And please don't ever forget...

Thanks for proving that some kids DO care.
This means alot to me as my cousin (who is like a older sister to me) just got back from her 3rd time in Iraq.
Your poem was beautiful, and very sincere.
thanks again.

(I'm twenty, XD.)

I've always cared, ever since I was much younger and I've really wanted to do this. So I'm really glad that you loved this. I hope your cousin is able to stay home now.

Thank you for commenting and faving, Soli. I aim to please. <3

:,) This is touching.

Obviously, those girls were shallow -pardon my language- bitches. They should care at least a bit.

I'm ashamed to admit that, in my younger age, I can't truly understand or appreciate fully for these types of holidays. I do care to some point, in which I'll remember the hardships that our ancestors had to go through in order to form our current countries and society, but I doubt that I can appreciate enough for what has happened. Perhaps it's just my shallow personality, or the fact that I'm in the younger generation, but I hope to understand one day...

Thanks, Ikari. ^^

I'm certain you will. Try and read some more of the history of the war. I can give you a link to Red Sector 'A' as well. It tells a very tragic story about what it was like to be a prisoner in the form of a song.
