Description
It happened late at night, when the moon was singing soft lullabies through the curtains. Kovárna woke to a sharp pain, their eyes flying open as they realized, dazed, what was happening. They had had ached and pains the last few days, their energy level dropping significantly just that evening prior. Nayip had sent them to bed early, and they were to go to docter F in the morning. Kovárna had no idea of the time, just that the sense of urgency- instinctual, driving and animalistic- was rolling through them like wildfire. Morning would not be soon enough. They tried to make a sound, but their throat was tight and dry. Nothing came out but a soft, low keening noise- with Nayip on the floor above, there was no way she would have heard it, even with how light of a sleeper she was.

So Kovárna braced themself. Carefully removed themself from the tangle of blankets and shuffled to a better position. The night was long- the hours dragged on in silence, pain rolling through Kovárna in vicious waves, tearing through their ability to think- their mind, their lungs, their legs. Everything trembled. Everything hurt. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Kovárna laid down, legs finally giving out as they heard the hard shell slide across the wood grain of the floor. Using their tail, Kovárna rolled the egg gingerly over to their arms, cradling it to their chest.

The silence washed through their ears then, feeling a cool breeze wash over them, sweat plastering their hair to their forehead. Exhaustion weighed over their shoulders, heavy. Pain, dull and soft, radiated through them like static, dragging their lids down and making their breathing soft and shallow.

Well... that hurt.

With a sigh, Kovárna stared at the little blue egg, its perfect, spotted shell shining ever so slightly in the moonlight. A spark of warmth blossomed in Kovárna's chest that they desperately tried to hush. When they spoke, their voice was rusted and cracked.

"You're not mine." there was a hint of firmness in their voice, like they were telling this to themself. A pause, before they spoke again.

"But you're awfully pretty." their tone held a hint of amusement before they laid their chin on their hands, staring at the soft blue egg until their eyes drifted shut, sleep finally taking them
