Description

to hear the following poem read aloud by me click here

"I had hair brown, skin as white as snow
Still filled with more than enough of a youthful glow
I was a young man, barely 13, in a time where children were ignored
A boy not concerned with time, reason, rhyme, or reward

Life seems opaque, after many glances
We come to take, more than chances
Life seems to be, less than easy
Time and time again, it's like running against the grain

I ran across the back cobblestone streets,
by the unpopular old little cafe we used to meet,
I’ve seen and saw you eyeing me,
I’d simply asked you if you'd want to hold hands, and our lives spiraled out of control
More than they'd ever been before, I'd met you

Continuing on is important
But the paths we end up taking
sometimes seem aberrant
From our predetermined advance
Life is certainly more than a concrete dance

You and I used to play on the river side,
Unbridled joy knowing, but not for how long, we were free to love
Love each other despite the standards, play away without the obstacles
Growing up can be hard to do, when it meant I would have to lose you
Simply spoken, back then two men could not love
Without the horrific treatment no one should wish for the likes of

A person is something that cannot be replaced
So prospects are not something that should go to waste
Get to know the people you love
Relationships are something to reminisce of

But you I will and have always loved, for reasons I never fathomed
The way I’ve felt, for all these years, can not be wrong,
It is more than just a silly little song
It is instead a ballad of sorts, without a happy ending

Life is a butterfly with silica wings
Flying over all things
But like glass it's brittle and breaks
Just like the toll that death takes
We look and see a wraith
Realizing it was our eye's mistake

But as I sit around and read Shakespeare,
Minding my watch, and wait for the hour, I will see you again
Briefly but still, without a kiss from you, now and again
I'd turn to my vices, a distracting pain

My hair is not brown, for now it is gray
Through the years I have withered away
Death is no longer so sad, not to say I am all that glad
But to depart from the illusory clutches of your arms around my heart
Would lighten my load at least in part

Life & death go hand and hand
One without the other is like ink without pen
To step forward and back, hesitation is that
Choices made, consequences paid
Not just in the lesser, but set in stone for discloser.

My wrinkles now as deep of the folds of the earth I will soon be laid within
I set down my long time friend, you my weary, raggedy pen
As my watch ticks on and on, all I can do is dread any more song
For before I hear the final notes, my voice will choke within my throat
My heart will cease to beat, and never again will start or stop, this is my final, solemn treat" - [me]

I must have seen a thousand photos of this same theme, but for some reason I can't even pin down, this photo really stands out. The DOF, the lighting, the imperfections on the glass, it's beautiful. I keep find myself coming back to this photo to take another look.

Loved this.. but not entirely until I clicked to hear you read it. The poem is better heard than read. This kind of strikes me as unusual since ordinarily I don't like poetry read to me as much as I like reading it myself. Your reading was a tad fast, but clear. The words are excellent. You approach the theme of forbidden love with great taste. Loved it.

I like the classic feel to this. Very well done. Lighting is good, the cropping is well done, draws the eyes everywhere.

then the artworks where successful, if art can't make you feel, or react in a way, the artwork doesn't serve quite the important purpose it does when you can make it
