actually, what most people fail to see is that if Godzilla we're ever turned into an anime, the story would be dark, serious, and with lots of badass Kaiju action. Imagine Evangelion or Shingeki no Kyujin(attack on titan) but with Kaiju. That's pretty much what a Godzilla anime would look like, and that is also why it simply must be made. Epic possibilities like that cant just be left ignored you know

see that's my point, people think it'd be a campy series because of both the Showa era and (according to most people) generic mainstream anime (comedy, ecchi, romance etc.).
But it would very likely be more Evangelion or Heisei/Millenium based

And why should it be? Showa was very comedy based, Heisei was mostly serious, but Millenium was practically shonen with Final Wars Godzilla tossing Kumonga over the horizon and the mutants playing discount Matrix.
The last of the dark Godzilla films was probably Godzilla vs Destroyah, after that, it's not really been too dark. It's clear the guy's a hero in those films, save for GMK and the Kiryu films. But GMK Godzilla was one of the worse(the ghost thing was ridiculous) and the Kiryu Godzilla had Kiryu playing up shonen tropes as well.

ok first of all, Ghost Godzilla was a concept that was planned many years ago by Toho, he was even supposed to fight the real Godzilla during heisei, but since heisei already had 3 kaiju who were Godzilla related, they changed it to Destoroyah.
And mind you, GMK is loved by many fans, but was originally supposed to feature Anguirus and Varan, not Ghidorah and Mothra. Many would've wanted to see the original but since Toho needed more "money winning kaiju", Mothra and Ghidorah were put in.
As for why it should be serious, why not? i mean, they took the newest Ultraman manga (and we both know Ultraman is very campy at times but also has it's seriousness like Godzilla does) and are gonna release an anime adaption next year, and that manga is pretty serious.

Ghost Godzilla sounds like a Ghostbusters villain and the original concept would have been vastly different, Godzilla vs Godzilla. What we got was a ridiculous idea of the victims of WW2 getting pissy over not being remembered and so they manifest their ghostly might...as a giant, radioactive dinosaur. All the named kaiju seem tossed in, it should have been some ghostly monster against guardian monsters, not cashing in on their names. People like to call Zilla GINO, but that name applies to GMK Godzilla better. He's got similar powers, but in origin and personality he's nothing like Godzilla.
The Ultraman comics are actually good though, not a power chain horror where Rodan bops off Kaiser Ghidorah's head and Godzilla owns Destroyah in about two minutes
