Description This is another photograph from my early days of photography. This was my first foray into macro photography - I had a Nikon 50mm f/1.8 lens and a set of extension tubes (the notes I've got on it from photo.net say that it was with 32mm of extension and shot on Febuary 26, 2002). The film was probably Kodak Gold 100 and this was shot using a tripod with the rose sitting on a chair at a florist's (I gave the florists a copy of the prints) under flourescent lighting. The background is the fake-grainte type material used as counter tops (or in the case, a counter side).

I'll admit the photo itself isn't composed the best. It's got that dead center bulls-eye composition. The thing that still draws me back to it is the shallow depth of field that is right at the closest point. Still, realizing that the lens and extension tubes cost a fraction of the price of a macro lens, it is still a wonderful example of what can be done cheaply.

Hey this is somthing! very nice the leading lines are very compelling in this and add to whole effect of the picture. The Green is different then most and the lighting on this is nice to the creamy red/purple go well with the green.

I Love this picture. The background looks almost marbely. Very great pic.

I agree with the dead center composition but I love that shallow DOF. The picture itself is almost like trying to remember an image from a dream, you can't picture all the details but you can see it as a whole.

I guess it must be the nature of the out of focus water droplets to make them look like specks of silver confedetti (sorry sp). Yeah it is a bit too centered, but I like this image because it looks almost painted fairytalish. Cool.

This is probably the most daring use of shallow dof I've seen for a while. It has a risk of appearing too out of focus and then suddenly your eye catches the gorgeous crisp edge of the petal and the magical tiny beads of water. But what I love the most is the colours. Yummm. They are just beautiful.

I've got to admit that it was an accident getting such shallow depth of field. Though admidatly, I like it and will try for it again in future photographs (ever notice its easier to do something by accident than on purpose?). Of that roll that I shot, this was one of the few pictures that did come out superbly.

it's too bad only the center bit is focused. it might be better if there were a drop there. nonetheless, the color of the rose and the background make this quite pretty.
