Description State of Israel (Medinat Yisrael); Israel is a country that is both ancient and modern. Emerging in 1948 after millennia of being subjected to conquest and occupation by various empires. Israel's roots lie in the movement of Jewish migrants to Ottoman-ruled Palestine between 1892-1914. Jewish migrants established a series of settlements which would evolve into villages and townships. Under British rule, Palestine experienced a surge in Jewish migrants, seeking both opportunity and to enhance the project of Jewish state building. Not unlike African and Afro-American migrants who settled in Haiti or Liberia, Jewish migrants came into conflict with the natives already present in Palestine. This conflict brewing between Jews and Arabs boiled over into civil war between 1947-1948, ending with the defeat of the Arab militias and and Arab League sponsored invasion of Israel which was repelled. In the end Israel emerged victorious spendings it early two decades in a state of perpetual economic development and gathering its scattered global diaspora.
