Description Drawn on graph paper when I got bit by the doodle bug and had no proper drawing paper at hand. Sorry 'bout that.

These, of course, would be based on the Donkey from the Shrek musical, so he walks on his hind hooves.

Hah, "badonkadonkey". A thousand points to Brian D'Arcy James for coining that phrase. x3

Pft, "badonkadonkey", when'd he say that? That's brilliant. XD Hard to pronounce too. Properly anyway, it took me several tries.

I love how you blend the "movie" and "musical" versions of Donkey together. It just looks so awesome!
The small array of expressions and poses are also excellent! I especially like how you pulled off the "badonkadonkey" (which is what I am offically titling the top left sketch. X3) pose and anatomy, and of course the DonkeyxDragon on the bottom right.

They're in love!

Scary..scary love. XD

Hahah, well, I can't find the video anymore (figures), but it's from a clip of Daniel Breaker performing as Donkey with the Three Blind Mice on the Early Show. The performance in the clip starts with this shot of the Ass's ass with this side-to-side hip action going to the first few beats of "Make a Move" as it zooms back (thus the top-left pic). And then after the song, the show Hostess comes out to talk, along with Mr. D'Arcy James out of make-up.

*some time during convo*
Hostess: *on Daniel's costume* And Donkey got back! xD
Daniel: OH, well thank you, hah! XD Yeah, I work out...
Everyone: *laughing*
Brian: Hahah, "Bah-DON-ka-donkey!"
Everyone: *LAWL!* XD

As for the sketches, I actually wasn't thinking about the movie version when drawing these, to be honest. Aside from using the musical costume as reference, I mostly winged it. xD

And yeah, I really like how these came out except for the bottom-right; his face didn't come out the way I wanted it to at all. Not to mention that you draw Dragon far better than I do. 8P

Oh cha, I heart Donkey/Dragon, but from what I've heard about the musical... well, while they DO befriend eachother off-screen for the finale with her eating Farquaad and what-not, they don't seem to actually get together by the end. :< I mean, c'mon, they couldn't have at least implied it somehow? D: Although, there was nothing contradicting the possibility of them still getting together either, so fans still have that! 8D

(Eeee it's so fun to have someone I can gush about this musical with! x333)

(Heck yeah it's fun! This musical is totally gush-worthy. Nobody I know even knows that this musical exists. I'm happy I can gush about it with you. X3)

Aww man, for serious? I wanted to see the "badonkadonkey"! No fair that these awesome clips are removed so soon. T_T But I guess that's the way it is. SO sad, so very sad.
But that sounds so incredibly funny the way you described it (the Ass's ass. ) I would have totally loved to see that! I love "Make a Move". It's one of my favourites from the show!

You winged it? Wow, that's amazing! I'm telling you, the face looks like, almost exact like in the films! You're awesome! And like I said, I totally love your design. It's clever and accurate!
I love his face in the bottom right, I gotta say. It depicts his..uh.."freaked out-ness" all excellent like. And I don't draw Dragon any better! You draw Dragon just fine, missy! (Trust me, it took me two million tries to get her even close to the way I drew her. D: )
But thank you anyway. X3

FFF, I heart Donkey/Dragon too. And you're completely right with hearing that, there's no real establishment for the couple. It sucks, doesn't it? I heard and read the exact same thing. That's just no fair! They're like, one of the best parts of the film! D: Why could they have not implied it? It wouldn't have been that hard! Just, like, have Donkey sitting on the puppet's nose or back or something, with a dopey grin on his face. Or..wait, Dragon is played by three ladies, right? Well, just have him off to the side with his arms around them. XD That's all it would have taken to make me go into fangirl mode.

But, but, but, BUT I do have salvation for us D/D lovers, who will miss it once we finally see the musical (Dreamworks, DVD. NOW please.) Remember when I said the Seattle version of it was up on Youtube? It's like the test show before the "real thing" takes off, to see the audiences reaction. Well, it's TOTALLY different from the final product from what I've heard. And the Donkey/Dragon stuff is abundant! I'm serious! She appears at least three/four times! I have no clue why they hacked it all out, it was genius!

OMG, you have to see! It's so, so, so sweet! There's a different actor playing Donkey (But actually, I like him just as much as Daniel! ), and the Dragon is only played by one woman and a chorus (as her "tail"), but still! It's just..ugh! He PROPOSES to her at the end!!! And then they..they...*squeals*

Look! I'll link you to the parts with them in it!

Donkey Pot Pie: [link] (Some of the lyrics were changed to fit Broadway, but they are so AWESOME.)

Make a Move: [link] (Heh, she appears in his "fantasy", along with the Three Blind Mice. Subtle. Real subtle. XD)

Finale: [link] (This is the part I just had a minor fangirl attack about earlier. X3)

O KNO RITE? D:

BUT-! I didn't mention this in the last comment, but I actually have seen the entire Seattle production on YT; in fact, I'm the one that compiled the Playlist. Although yes, everything you just mentioned IS most certainly squee-worthy!! 83; Eeee
I really liked the idea of an actress serving as a spiritual stand-in for Dragon so she and Donkey could more easily interact, but... well, I don't know exactly why they changed it, but hey! We always have fandom and fan-wank, right? 8DDD

And with that in mind, the one good thing about the lack of D/D in the Broadway version is that it DOES leave plenty of room for fan-interpretation of how they could've gotten together. The musical and films are seperate continuities, after all. :> And Daniel Breaker's Donkey is separate from Eddie Murphy's Donkey (or Chester Gregory's from the Seattle version for that matter); I imagine it might actually take the musical's Donkey a little longer to come to openly reciprocate Dragon's feelings... leaving plenty of room for plot bunnies! 8D;

I'm serious; I have so many plot bunnies for this show, it's sad. |D

Pft, we need a forum for our StM convo's or something.

((Aaaahahaha Shrek the Musical siggie! ))

((Yesss! I was wondering if you were going to notice that. I was going to put the "Punchbuggy" quote from the Seattle version, but the Travel Song is lots more ann-I mean, FUN! XD))

Aww, dear, I certainly feel sheepish. X3 But I should have known you had already seen the Seattle production, as you're like me in the sense of scraping the Internet for every StM clip and show piece
possible. I'll admit, I had a feeling you had already seen it. XD But, what the heck, I made you watch the cuteness again. You can never get enough Donkey/Dragon LURVE!
The kissy at the end made me melt, seriously. WHY DID THEY REMOVE THAT?! It was so sweet!

Gotta love the fandom and fanwank!...Even though it's almost non existant here, but who cares! We RULE! We totally need to form a forum, so I stop clogging your mail box with my babble . I can't find one, and one is needed. I would join that forum in a heartbeat! A heartbeat, I tell you! Then we can gush as long as we want. X3

I gotta totally agree with you there, the single actress serving for an equality spirit stand in for Donkey was a pretty clever idea. I also loved how Dragon had that little bit during "Donkey Pot Pie", where she sadly
recounted that she was lonely, and didn't want to be a guard dragon for "some babe in a tower", and have heros run away from her. That was good character development, IMO. I don't have any idea why they would have changed it either. I thought it actually worked well the way they had it in Seattle. Like, the skeletons serving as guards so Donkey wouldn't escape. And Donkey's bit, gee, I know he was trying to save his ass (Heh, Ass's ass...), but that was totally
sweet too, in a way. How'd it go? Something like:

Wait!
Hey, you got it wrong
(Don't kill me)
I like a girl who's "big boned"
(So don't grill me)
All joking aside
I dig a double wide
And more just means more
For me
For me
For me

Geeeeezzze..

Ooh, you also have a good point there. Each Donkey actor (Ha, I knew it was Chester something. I just couldn't remember the last name. I fail. ) seems to have a different way of dealing with Dragon's affections. Like, Eddie Murphy's was terrified, but still tried to keep the conversation going (That is unwanted physical contact! D: ) so she wouldn't do anything brash. Daniel Breaker, from what I've seen/heard, is totally and utterly terrified and nervous throughout the entire thing, jumping here and there and the like, trying desperatly to escape. Chester Gregory is, surprise, surprise, also terrified (am I seeing a pattern? X3) at first, but as the song goes on, he's the one who actually seems to get into it. I mean, this could also be a tactic to save himself, but still, was I the only one who noticed that?

So, in reality, each performance would take different levels of time for them to have gotten together, or gotten closer. Daniel's would take longer, Chester's would take shorter, and Eddie's would take somewhere hanging in the middle, like in the film. It really depended on what kinds of things happened "off stage". But the plot bunny point is completely right. I mean, what else is fandom for but for filling in the bits you wished they hadn't missed? X3

Speaking on missed, OMG, you have to hear this song (if you haven't already. You probably have though. X3). I just crossed upon it a few days ago. It's the song that was originally going to take place instead of "Donkey Pot Pie", back in early production.

[link]

I had a fangirl heartattack, seriously. Even though I really like "Donkey Pot Pie", this one would have been just, ugh, PERFECT. I'm trying to write the lyrics down, but I can't make out some of what he's saying.

Ooh, you have plot bunnies? No! Not sad! Good! VERY good! I adore sharing and swapping plot bunnies. Tell me! I want to here them!

FFF, and in the spirit of all this D/D talk, I just had a thought. If Shrek 2 ever came to Broadway, (which I'm secretly hoping COULD become a reality. I can dream, can't I? Besides, many people said that the second Shrek was just as good, if not better than, the original.) would little mutant dronkey babies make an appearance at the end? *squeals from the cuteness* I love the dronkies. I just do. X3 Huh, I wonder what they'd look like...concept art time! *rushes off*

Actually, know what? 83; JUST after posting that comment, I'd remembered this forum that a friend of mine had made ages ago, and it never really got used: [link] It's a place basically for anyone to gush and natter away about essentially anything!

We could definitely take our Shrek convo's there, including maybe continuing this one. And when we're done with that, we could start another thread for Unstable Fables, or whatever! 8DDD;;;;

Whatcha' think? :3

Tch, and don't worry about clogging my inbox; I LOVE our convo's. x3

OH, also, I just gotta say... HOLYCRAPINEVERKNEWABOUTTHATSONGOMGOMGAAAH<33333

And have you already joined, or not? If so, what's your user name?

We should totally continue this one (Cause we love Donkey/Dragon-ness! ), and branch onto new ones and YES, Unstable Fables thread MUST BE MADE!!!
I just love conversing with you! Especially since we both gush about the same things. XD This would mean we save your inbox from being clogged, and we can talk all we want!
