Description This is my most recent painting I have completed. I feel as if I have been struggling with color (or at least not grasping it as well as I want) and so my professor suggested trying out black and white paintings for a little while just for a change of pace. So that's what I'm doing at the moment. I think black and white will help me grasp color better. This painting was relatively quick and didn't turn out too bad, in my opinion.

Oil on masonite. 10" X 7" Only took a couple of hours each day in a four day span. Multiple refs from WetCanvas RIL.

Your professor sounds really helpful - you seem to be very open to suggestions and critique. That's important for artists I think

This looks great. Always good to see a new technique from an artist

Yes he is. I really appreciate the things he has been able to teach me not only about my art, but about myself as well. And this is true. If you as an artist can never accept critique or suggestions, then how is it you plan on improving?

Thanks! I'm excited to do more.

Interesting idea, I think I'm gonna try that too... I'm having trouble especially with traditional use of colour.

But on to the picture itself, it could have a bit more contrast (darker shades especially). The fox looks just adorable and I admire all the detailing you've gotten into the fur. Especially on the lighter parts the brushstrokes look just right; it's painted but at the same time very-well 'rendered' fur. Beautiful in all

Yes, I'd recommend it.

Yeah, I agree that it could have that. (Though it may just be my photo--and the fact that the oils have a weird shine effect that may distort the tones a bit. ) And thanks! Fur is something I'm especially picky with and want to master eventually.

That's the trouble of photographing art - it always come out wrong xD You definetly aced the fur, you should be proud!

It's very true! Especially with oils. Unless you have your brush strokes all going the same way, I don't think it's possible to get a nice, high quality image of it. And thanks again!
