I think the biggest difference is probably material... thought you could probably try the same thing I do. Size may be another factor - my critters are mostly only 5-6" tall, and very lightweight because they are made of felt with polyester fiberfill stuffing. The legs are attached with a a button joint (I think that's what its called...) where I attach the thread to one leg, put the needle through the body, loop it through the other leg, then go back through the body, then pull tight and knot the thread on the other side of the body. That way they can swivel. The difference may be material - it looks like you use the same stuff that steiff bears are made from, which is heavier I believe? I've tried my technique with larger animals, and it definitely doesn't work as well though... like, for some reason the joints are super loose and wobbly. If you stuffed them super firmly and then pulled the joint really tight it might work better though. It also helps that mine are standing on four legs instead of two... Best of luck to you though! Thank you. I love your mystical creatures. I wish I could make plushes like them, but like you said, mohair is quite heavy. Even if I was to use minky, the faux fur fibers makes it quite heavy. I have to weigh down their bellies and feet with bean bag stuffing otherwise their heads are too heavy. I think a big difference is I have to densely stuff the heads in order to be able to sculpt the face.

I would love to be able to discuss this further with you and discuss different joints and felt vs mohair
