I have to admit, I had not heard of John Wilmot before "The Libertine" but once I saw the movie, I research him and his amazing poetry.

Me neither. When I came across the movie I also had to research him, but I love his works! Too bad that nobody here in Germany knows him. Whenever I ask I only get "John who??"

technology may have improved but the human mind never seemed more advance than it did, back in those times

I'm not saying that there's nothing good out there anymore in terms of art, but certainly there's nothing that is THAT good and unique like Wilmot's poetry or for example the paintings from that era.

I really do love the paintings of that time, the fashions, the architecture.
as well as the poetry and philosophy.
I was wrong to say "the human mind never seemed more advance than it did" because we cant forget all those who came after, but I really think the majority of people were very talented and smart during this time, especially those who lived in Europe

The Earl is my all time favourite character. So I loved to spend all the time doing this painting. And I'm glad you like it!

Beim x-ten Gucken des Films fiel mir diese Szene zum ersten Mal als mΓΆgliche Malvorlage auf. Und endlich war mir auch mal wieder nach nem Fummel-Bild. Nachdem ich mir bei allen frΓΌheren Wilmot-Versuchen immer einen abgebrochen habe, ging der schon fast leicht von der Hand. Wie's scheint, hab ich nun endlich meinen (malerischen) Frieden mit dem Earl gefunden....
