Description
Just finished a new poster design!!This was drawn up for gig poster for the band Steelbirds. It's a single launch for their song 'Above The Sky, Below This Roof'. I had a simple idea of a guitar leaning against an old amp... adding the crows was an after thought. It wasn't until i added the background that the mood was truly set!
Drawn in Illustrator... with some texture add in photoshop!

Did the band liked it?
You do it all in illustrator, or you sketch a little before?

In this case I started directly in illustrator. Finding some reference images and drawing out silhouettes. From there I add darker vector shapes and worked my way up to the lighter highlights etc.
There's a certain charm to illustrator in that you can keep elements fairly loose and each vector shape slightly random. Its how they work as a whole that really brings it all together. Resulting in a classic screen-print style. This is why I love it for band/music posters etc. Very fitting.
This is probably about 4-6 hours of drawing. The band were very happy too

Indeed, I like a lot how it looks like a screen-print. And you're right, this is great for bands and gigs. I'm glad to hear the band liked it.
