This is a really great shot. I love how his silhouette fades into the smoke. And you used real film! Everything's always digital cameras these days. Did you crop part of the original shot out? It seems it would be hard to frame him so well without a telephoto lens, unless you were really close.

No, no. This is digital. I don't have any film cameras capable of low-light. I cropped it to a square, but only the left and right of the image. I used a 50mm lens which is effectively 75mm on my DX cropped sensor camera. I was right at the front of the barricade also.

ah.. an assumption on my part due to the ISO rating. (I don't know shit about digital cameras, obviously.)

I still love it.

Thanks! Yeah, ISO is an equivalent on digital cameras because they couldn't think of any better terms to represent "film speed". The grain of this is about the same as ISO 3200 on film too, which sucks. 800 is sometimes too low for me, but any higher destroys the image quality.

Oh it has! There's a new camera (which my friend has bought and i cannot afford, of course) which has about as much noise at 6400 as mine at 800.
