    -          Diegooo! Hurry up! I want to eat!

    -          Right after you sister, don’t worry! I just have to leash Gazer, just a moment.

    -          Yes, yes but be quick! Gli spaghetti al ragù ci aspettano!

The young man sighted, tipical of his sister: always in a rush. He petted Gazer’s fur gently and enjoying those few seconds of peace. The World Dog Show had been hard for everyone, even if Gazer placed very well he had hoped for something more as getting near the top every single time without reaching it was getting very frustrating. He sinked his hands in the shiny and soft pelt of the husky who, strangely enough, didn’t seem to be bothered by it. He looked his old friend in his deep hazel eyes but the dog gezed at him coldy. Lately he had being quite passive and that was strange for Gazer, he was starting to worry as while staring at him he couldn’t catch that glimpse of adorable malice that he always had. Was getting older that terrible? He had seen Saimak grow older and older but the malamute always stayed like he was when he was young apart being weaker and weaker… For some reason since he left Italy he felt uneasy and somehow worried… But that was completely illogical. He took a deep breath and tried to calm down. At Del Bosco everything was fine: Jet’s pups were born and no more deaths happened, Celeste was at the vet so no worries either…

Still that awkward feeling haunted him.

Allright. Perhaps not everything was THAT fine as in a little time he had witnessed the death of his beloved first dogs whom he dearly missed. He started recalling in his mind their canine happy faces … Saimak, Maisha, Ekalu and . His heart skipped a beat, that weird feeling was getting stronger and he felt like he was on the odge of crying. Jeez. How. Weird.

Celeste too. She had been ill since two months now and her health wasn’t getting neither worse or better… Maybe Gazer was sad for that? Sad. That was it! The dog seemed sad. Right… or not? Perhaps the sad one there was him not the dog. He frowned for a moment. What was he thinking!? He stood up immediately trying not to agitate Gazer… who stayed still without displaying any sign of excitement, he seemed to be on his own world…

Fine. To add to the ‘to do’ list: call the vet and have Gazer checked.

He went inside Mattia’s house. The unmistakable yummy smell of spaghetti reached his nose but his stomach had a convulsion. Call the doctor and had himself checked was what he though sarcastically. ‘Doctor heal me, I am starting to get crazy’, Yep. Totally.

Then a strong slap on his haed brought him back to reality

    -          What the heck!!? – He shouted out of surprise

    -          I said it was ready, didn’t I!? I’m hungry! – answerd Becca

    -          Hey you two? Everything allright? I’ve hear- Mattia stopped on the kitchen door with an interrogative smile, The brother looked back at him, Diego massaging his head and Becca with an adorable smile. In that moment LeRoy happily trotted to Mattia’s side watching the curious duo too.

    -          Yes, yes. Eveerything is ok, we were coming ^^

However Diego couldn’t eat. Something was clearly bothering him and kept staring at the window: the night was falling darker as ever.

In that precise moment the phone started ringing. All the people inside the house winced. Mattia headed toward the phone but Diego reached it out first.

    -          Hello?

    -          …C-ciao…

    -          …Who’s… Iris? It’s late… What’s wrong?

    -          *suddenly starts to cry*Diego…

He hearth stopped. He never heard or saw Iris cry. Then what, what could have had happened?

    -          Iris.. shhh, it’s ok. What’s the matter?

    -          Jesus, Diego… I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry… I would have never wanted to be the one saying you this but…b-but you have to come back *sigh*

    -          …

    -          Something happened, it’s a mess… I don’t know what to do…

    -          Iris, calm down, breathe, and be more clear please… - Mattia and Becca looked at each other worried… Diego’s hand was starting to tremble

    -          *cries louder*The dogs.. They are *the sound of a police siren covers Iris’s voice*

    -          *louder with coarse voice* Iris! Where are you!? Why is there the police? Are you ok!?? – Mattia stands up and goes up- stairs preparing the bags

    -          I’m… I’m at Del Bosco…

    -          … - Del Bosco? That didn’t make sense…Why was the police there?

    -          Diego… Please…Come back

The man let go of the phone letting it crash on the floor with an awkward soud and ran upstrairs preparing his things. Becca rushed to the phone

    -          Hello? Iris? Are yo still there?

    -          …Becca…

    -          Please Iris… Tell me…

That was a long night. They rushed out of the house and went straight to the airport. Every second away from home was a torture. He didn’t really was able to understards the situation as the fear gripped his heart but a lonely little voice kept on telling him every was fine, that he shouldn’t worry that much… Still he had valued the worst scenario thousands times. Everything was silent. Too silent. Gazer looked sad, LeRoy scared. Becca’s expression was indecifrable. Mattia was confused.

In the late morning they were in Italy, and at noon time they crossed the borders of Del Bosco property. Still silent reigned all around. He was terrified. Right in front of the main gate there was Iris.

She was unrecognizable. She had deep sockets and a disconsolate gaze. As soon as she saw him getting out of the car she started shivering and crying. He stared at her with wide open eyes, unable to say a word.

Silently she opened the gate and slowly walked inside; they followed her hesitating.

His worst scenario was coming true.

It was everything like always apart for some deep tracks of many cars, a jeep or a camion must have been there with a lot of weigth on it, tapes of the police almost everywhere. And no dogs to be seen.

The kennels had been cracked, all around it was a mess. He kneeled down in front of what that once was Tai and Gemma’s kennel and stared speechless the reddish liquid that covered the concrete floor. It was splattered here and there and was the proof of a fight. He touched it. It was cold and almost clotted. Blood. Too much blood. He froze. He already knew.

After a while he got up and looked at Iris, she then continued walking leading him trhough the void kennels. It seemed unreal. Carmine awaited them right near the portico, and with him Sarah and Ethan.

Ethan took Leroy and Gazer for a walk. Diego silently looked at Carmine.

    -          Cosa è successo?

    -          Someone broke into Del Bosco properthy last night. They stole some dogs…And the ones who fighted were …killed.

They also broke into your house and harmed Farah. She is at the hospital now but will get better soon.

    -          Who… Did we loose?

    -          …Tai – Diego knew that, so that was Tai’s blood afterall – Mascara… and Lurani

Iris started crying and ran away, followed by Sarah. Becca was on the verge of collapsing.

    -          Algor, Sierra, Orus, Shila and Siria’s brother have been stolen probably. Shasta has been badly injured… So was Sileo. They are at the vet with Celeste right now…

Also Gemma and Rhory ran away but we found themr early in the morning…

    -          Rua? – asked Becca

    -          Rua, King, Malakai and Bosco are safe as they were at Iris’s house luckily. Nira and Jet were at my house. While Tia, Malaga, Gunnar, Ardesia and Siria are safe…

Diego was destroyed. He couldn’t speak. 3 dogs were killed, 2 had been injured, 5 disappeared. Celeste was ill. Farah at the hospital. The kennels were a mess and his house… seemed to have been vandalized.

    -          Diego can I talk to yo in private? Asked Carmine

Mattia and Becca left quickly.

    -          Diego, whoever it was… they wanted to affect you…

    -          You say?! – answered harshly the man

    -          No, I mean… There is something I want to show only to you…

Right on a tree near the house, with blood, there was painted a familiar symbol… Acrossed stylized wing.

    -          That…

    -          …Yes. That’s it…

    -          How could someone know… It’s impossible!

    -          I don’t know, really. But from now on we must be careful..

    -          … No. From now on, I’ll kill whoever tries to harm my family.

    -          Diego…

    -          Hush.

Carmine sadly nodded – Follow me…

And he lead him to where Tai, Mascara and Lurani layed. There he couldn’t hold back anymore and tears started flowing down.
