Description So here's a rather peculiar autoportrait.
I had to make two artworks for art class and we had to choose from three choices. After picking my first choice, I still had to choose between doing an autoportrait or a ''photographic abstraction''. I really didn't like the last one but I felt incredibly weird drawing my face. I then had this idea with the help of Halloween but didn't think I could do it since, you know, there's no face. But my friend made me remember that it wasn't actually necessary since autoportrait from a back view exist.
So yeah. I couldn't resist trying my hand to some creepy art. Especially since I had access to some charcoal and manille paper.Β

Though it is kinda weird thinking about how fun this was to do. Oh well -w-

I can't imagine how long it took you...it takes me so long just to draw oneΒ hand! ;o;
I really adore the soft texture in this though <3 It really adds to the feeling of the picture~

Thank you!Β
I'm actually impressed by how easier drawing them were but it still took me hours to do them all -w-
That's why I really wanted to do it in charcoal, it gives such a nice texture! Even more when used on manila paper.Β

Yeah, I was soooo relieved! Maybe I'll have less trouble drawing hands now! owo

Well, I washed my hands often, tried to avoid resting my hand on the paper while drawing (using an easel help) and once done I ''fixed'' it (that means spraying something that's pretty much like hairspray on it to ''fix'' the charcoal and keep it from being smudged). I wouldn't have known how to do it without taking that art class.

yeah! you can be the Hand Master now~

oh, okay! what kind of spray it it?? I love using soft materials like charcoal/pastels but I cannot handle the smudging... I never know how to store it!

My teacher said that you could use hairspray since it use the same chemicals but do it outside since the fumes are actually dangerous. You just have to spray your work 3-4 times and it should do it. Don't spray too slowly to avoid spraying one spot too much and in a motion away from yourself. And test it out one time at least, to make sure you got the hang of it (don't worry it isn't hard but better be safe than sorry since you don't have a teacher to show you). After that, it should be all good to handle! ^w^ But if you want to be extra safe, you can put a sheet of paper on it when you store it (in class we use what is called ''newspaper'' paper since it is the same kind used for newspapers and it is cheap).
I don't know the name of the ''art'' kind but I got art class tomorrow so I can check and come back to you.

And if you have trouble with the smudging while you work, well, charcoal and pastels tend to smugde so either take advantage of it by putting less and spread it or practice drawing with your hand not touching the paper. Sometimes you can erase a smudge with an eraser thought but don't depend too much on it.

Okay, the art kind is called a fixative spray. It should be precised on it that it is a fixative for charcoal, pastel and pencil.
Have fun!
