Description This cool dude is Mario Tarigo of Los Altos Hills, California. I met Mario while I was admiring his beautiful, blue Oldsmobile Starfire Convertible. My wife and I were in Los Altos for an Art and Wine Festival; we got there a little late that day. I discovered there had also been a small car show event in town, which I missed out on, but I was fortunate enough to take some photos of Mario's rare automobile.

The information below was taken from the information card displayed with the car (with some minor revisions).

1955 Oldsmobile Starfire Convertible

Starfires were Oldsmobile's personal-luxury cars from 1954 to 1966. The name came from a Lockheed fighter jet (the F-94), which Oldsmobile initially used for a 1953 fiberglass-bodied show car. The carmaker applied it the following year to its top-of-the-line Ninety-Eight model, defining the five-passenger personal luxury car category that Ford Thunderbird successfully exploited later that decade.

The 1955 offered a more rounded grill opening and splashier side trim. It is powered by a 324 cubic inch, V-8 engine. This car came with power-brakes, steering, seats, windows, and antenna. Also a "Wonder Bar" Radio, electric eye headlight dimmer; hood-, trunk-, and back-up lights; and spinner hub caps.

Mario's Starfire served as the lead car in the 2011 San Francisco, Martin Luther King Parade and received the James W. Steiner Award at the 2011 Palo Alto Concours.

I love the color!
Was material from the Lockheed fighter jet used to build the car or was the car just named after it? Is this the most recent model?

Mario's car was built in 1955. The Lockheed Starfire was a fighter jet built for the United States. Here's a photo I found on the Web if you want to take a look. [link]

Yeah, jet fighters from the 50's have a certain style all their own. Thanks for your comments as always. You're making us both become more knowledgeable as a result.

Oh you're welcome! I thought you found my comments to be a little annoying because I'm always confused or asking questions
