Description The fastest shark (Shortfin Mako) and the slowest (Greenland Shark).  Greenland sharks have an eye parasite.  Just lovely. :/

There's a sense of real personality here. What's touching is the Greenland seems to be 'just fine, thank you very much for your kind concern' in spite of all of what's perceived to be problems. From reading... they appear to be very tough and canny survivors in a very difficult environment. Thanks for your imaginative work in general. You really give wonderful personalities to all of your subjects and studies.

The Greenlands are blind and are poison when eaten fresh.

The Greenland looks particularly adorable, like they're just rambling on about the state of the world. I like this a lot. Well done.

Mako's either worried that the Greenland shark's way too slow, there's a parasite in his eye or both

That looks cool. About the Greenland Shark, scientists also believe that the parasite on their eye may also act as a lure for certain animals like salmon. In the final season of River Monsters, Jeremy wanted to see if that species is dangerous to humans. Though there's never been any reported attacks from greenland sharks, Jeremy knew in spite of its sluggish appearance, they can still turn up the heat when they want to eat. It was thrashing and pulling really hard, indicating you don't want to mess with them.

I think I read somewhere (Could be wrong...) that it might be a symbiotic relationship, not necessarily a parasite.    It would make for sense, for if it were truly a parasite, some individuals might have started to develop some kind of more adaptive trait to fight against it, as to have better eyesight and therefore be more adaptive. That, while some might still have the parasite, not necessarily all. Many animals have developed parasite defenses - Sharks especially, with relationships between parasite-eaters and themselves, and prickly scales that bacteria has a difficult time cultivating on, as well as being a sharp and thick defense to any parasites that might want to latch on.       Seeing that no such thing, adaptation against this possible parasite, has happened - Either this particular species of shark isn't quite so adaptive, or maybe the parasite isn't exactly a parasite...

Greenland sharks seems adaptive enough to me. If they weren't, they wouldn't be here. Their meat and flesh is actually poisonous and cannot be consumed by humans without - at least - specific treatments. They can also live for a very long time as well, some said to live longer than 200 years. It seems like many slow things live a long time... Whales that live to be 150, tortoises...   It seems like they're adaptive enough - If it were truly a parasite, surely it would have built up more of a defense, as that some few individuals would not have the possible parasites.    Many animals plagued with parasites also have shorter lives, with the creature leeching off of their health.   Surely, with such a long lifespan - Couldn't the parasite finish eating an eye in that long and then move on? Yet I haven't seen photos of eyeless green sharks.  If not, if it were simply sucking blood from the eye or something along that line, I would expect the shark to live a shorter life... Yet, they often live very long lives.

Of course, I could be wrong.  I do know, they're not an easy species to study, and we don't know quite as much about them.  Considering the obvious nature of the creature latched to the eye - And how there is also no known way as to how it could possibly be anything helpful either - it may yet still be a parasite, just one that clearly wouldn't be so serious that the greenland shark might thrive enough by developing against it.

There's a theory that most of the sightings of Nessie are in fact rare surface sightings of a Greenland shark that's followed a salmon run into the lochs.

Most usually do end up with a parasite in one or both of their eyes. But of course they dont start out that way. ^_^ It's rare to find one without the parasite when they're older.
