Description in light of all the 787's recent problems (and grounding here in the US and Japan) i figured i'd draw a sickly Dreamliner laying on a runway after making an emergency landing due to smoke from a burning battery...and subsequent fuel leak once on the ground (i exaggerated a few things here, but still )

this is one of the few times you'll see me draw a living airplane that has this much mechanical features too

the Dreamliner is having all these problems simply cuz EVERYTHING on it is state of the art, (lithium-ion batteries instead of ni-cad, wild AC instead of regular AC, composite wings instead of aluminum ones, etc...) so its not too surprising to see newer planes like this being grounded until airworthiness directives are made, saying how to fix the problems

honestly though, i don't trust that many electrical systems on a plane (the 787 is almost all electronic ) so i probably will never want to fly on a Dreamliner even after the issues get fixed

I love your style for drawing planes. also did you ever fly in a helicopter?

thanks

yes i did fly in a helicopter, back in 2007 i took a ride on a R-44 at my local airport's fly-in breakfast best 40 bucks i ever spent, was awesome!! (a few pics were taken of the event but yeah, they're printed on crappy paper and i dont have the image files of them D= was before i joined DA man, was in the dark ages back then rofl

heh, thanks yeah something really bad has to come up with a particular airplane for me to do a somewhat realistic drawing like this

of i could do a pic involving the 3 types of living airplanes all meeting each other full mechanical AIs, half mechanical/half organic, and full organic fleshy planes

exactly!!! i dont know what those engineers were thinking!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

eightyjet In reply to sharkplane77 [2014-12-17 04:48:18 +0000 UTC]

I can tell you exactly what they were thinking... XD

They were thinking they could revolutionize the wide body jet--which they did.

They were thinking they could appeal to the airlines-- which they did.

They were thinking they could take the market back from the 330-- which they are doing.Β

They were thinking they could make a jet more efficient than anything before it-- which they did.

They were thinking they could increase the range-- which they did... by a long shot.

And they were thinking a little tree hugging never hurt anybody... if you don't mind me I have to go draw a dreamliner hugging a tree now...

Long story short: The 787 kicks tail!

I cannot believe that many airlines are replacing 747-400s with this battery powered peice of crap. It recently got updated, but do you think the new 787s work better?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

sharkplane77 In reply to OwenConcorde [2013-04-25 04:11:48 +0000 UTC]

i think they'll work, but they are always going to have problems with the electrical system, cuz the planes uses a TON of electricity, and since everything is electrical theres miles and miles of wire to be configured, and theres always bound to be errors with a system that complex plus idk, i dont really trust wild AC on an aircraft (the alternators dont have any frequency/hertz regulation, which means the alternator is mounted directly on the engine rather than being attached to a constant speed drive to regulate the frequency )

so yeah, i'd hate to be the poor plane to get electrocuted trying to have sex with one

((Thanks for inspiring me to do my own living planes!))

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

sharkplane77 In reply to Reshira-Dragon [2013-04-14 04:56:08 +0000 UTC]

cuz they feel the need to make everything electrical on this poor guy! electrical compones might be light, but they're dangerously sensitive, unpredictable when faulty, and highly complex to set up/calculate its stupid and inefficient, and if all electrical airplane are the future...theres gonna be lots of crashed planes (engineers take a hint...)

heehee, glad i inspired you your character is a cute little 787
