Description living airplanes in Ancient Egypt were worshiped as semi-gods, and as a sign if their divinity the Egyptians rubbed an oil based substance similar to make up all over the bodies of them, giving their skin a golden tone. this was also done to the eyes with a black color, giving them a fashionable eye decal

this was not paint though, and did nothing to protect the plane's skin from the sun, so this was basically just a fashion thing

lol Airplanes: children of the sun god Ra, or Re however you want to spell it

actually, the black makeup the egyptians wore around their eyes served to help with the sun, and keep away flies; similar to what football players do with the two black lines they put on their face. So it wasn't totally useless.

yes! they had such high status back then but i think Ra was right

sweet! i bet that Egyptian planes eye makeup influenced the development of those black anti-glare panels that look so cool

it is! and some planes still paint themselves in similar decals today! though they use regular paint instead of oil
