Description This is Dr. Kay, explorer of worlds and seeker of knowledge for the sake of knowledge itself. I write to you in awe of the creature I just encountered. A shark that is, I would argue, the most efficient predator I have ever encountered. A creature that is the literal stuff of legends, who's reputation is so highly spoken of, that invasive species from other planets dare not look in the direction of Zenvar. Despite this, our encounter with this shark was peaceful, no aggression in any sense of the word. The only known member of it's species...Vanta, The Great Black Shark.

My colleagues were interested in studying a species of social bioluminescent creatures that gather in only the darkest parts of the Isurus Ocean. These creatures were called Metaphosis Eels, light blue glowing animals of unbelievable grace and size. Most groups, called a Light Fest, were actually just extended families, with the eldest leading the pack.

In such a dark world, it didn't take us terribly long to find a rather small Light Fest traveling towards what we assumed was their feeding grounds. As we got closer, we realized just how big these animals were, with the average eel being 150 feet long, and they developed 6 fins, 3 on each side for steering. The eels didn't seem to mind our intrusion as we began making observations for our research.

As we were observing, Dr. Vance noticed a massive 200 foot eel snuck up above us and was swimming at our pace. While alarming at first, there was no aggression from the creature. I shined a light on it for a better look and something seemed...different about this individual, as no light was passing through it like it normally would. As I was beginning to question the situation, my colleagues and I felt the presence of a large, fast moving animal. There was no doubt it was the Metaphosis Eels main predator, Abyssal Leviathan.

This 300 foot mosasurus like creature was closing in fast, yet the pack of eels didn't seem to panic or react to the beast pursuit. My colleagues and I have a rule of not interfering with nature as it plays out, but there was no doubt we didn't want expedition to be cut short. It wasn’t a minute later before we saw the Leviathans glow as it closed in fast. Just as it seemed Dr. Vance was about to speak up, the eel above us shot forward with astonishing speed and CRUNCH!!!

I was contemplating on what I just witnessed until a giant Dark Blue eye and Light Blue Color patterns started glowing on a 600+ foot black shark. We had come down here looking for a rare pack of eels, and ended up witnessing the hunting style of the greatest predator in this ocean...Vanta. With what looked like an effortless bite, Vanta bit the Abyssal Leviathan in half and consumed the larger half, while the pack of eels began sharing the other half.

It was clear Dr. Cinn could hardly contain his excitement, as it was a personal goal for him to find and study this shark. He had gathered from other colleagues that Vanta was named after the color Vantablack, a color in which hardly any light can penetrate. No other creature we have seen has been naturally born with this evolutionary trait, yet alone the ability to control it.

Whats even more impressive are the legendary stories about this shark, one being where an invasive species had come to this planet and was affecting oceans everywhere. Shockingly, 2 months later, that species had all but disappeared off the face of the planet. It was later discovered that Vanta literally traveled all over the planet and hunted that species to extinction.

Vanta began swimming away after it consumed its meal and the pack of eels followed, swimming all around him as if they were his escorts. We decided to follow and to our surprise, Vanta didn't seem to mind our presence, if anything, he did seem curious about us. While we swam with him and the eels, Vanta looked at us a few times up and down, clearly thinking and wondering what we were. We found it amazing that these eels had formed some sort of relationship with Vanta, as some of his patterns look like the eels, drawing in their predators, which as it turns out, happen to be his prey.

After an hour of swimming with this group, the eels broke off the go rest in some caves. As they left, Vanta soon stopped glowing and disappeared into the black. Despite his size, we were unable to find him after that, even though he was literally right beside us. My colleagues and I figured it was best for us to end our journey as well, having encountered such a marvel in nature. It makes me question where did Vanta come from, and how did he get so good at hunting as to hunt an entire species to death when he so chooses. This tells me he understands his power...well, that's a question for another time. As always, continue to seek knowledge my fellow explorers.
