Description “Good morning class. Welcome to the second semester. My name is Mr. Chandler. Today, we won’t be doing anything that will affect your grade in the long run. We will be going over the safety measures that are enforced in this class.” Mr. Chandler went to his desk in the front of the room. He turned on a slideshow from his computer that showed up on the smartboard.

Heidi knew the precautions. It was just going to repeat over and over again “Don’t be an idiot”

Heidi started drawing a teal cat and a brown and green wolf on the paper that he passed out. The wolf was sitting, looking slightly disturbed, while the cat was trying to sit on its head.

Adeline seemed to squirm in her seat. She kept on glancing at that one brunette. Heidi had seen him before. She just could never remember anyone’s names. Let alone some guy she never talked to.

Heidi leaned toward her friend. “Adeline, if you’re still nervous you can talk to me.”

“Hmm? Sorry, what?” Adeline had evidently not heard her.

“Are you still nervous about today?”

Adeline glanced at Heidi’s drawing. “Yeah, a bit. I was just thinking of people I could try to talk to. I was hoping you could introduce me to someone.”

What? Heidi laughed but quickly disguised it as a loud cough. “You do realize that I only have two other friends. Right? And they aren’t really friends it’s like, we hang out so we aren’t alone.”

Adeline laughed a little worriedly, “I know, but maybe the two of us could make friends together.”
Heidi rolled her eyes, “If only.”

“You two young ladies, Uh,” Mr. Chandler looked at a list. “Ms. Bedingfield and Perry. Please pay attention. You don’t want to get into trouble your first day.”

Heidi nodded respectfully while Adeline yelped and nodded.

Heidi giggled, the teacher paused and looked at Adeline. “Are you new to the school? I don’t remember you being on the schedule before.”
Adeline nodded, she looked too scared to say anything. She looked pleadingly to Heidi for help.

Heidi laughed, obligingly, she explained. “Yep, she’s new. She hasn’t been to public school before.”

Mr. Chandler nodded and went back to the slides.

The bell rang, Heidi gathered her drawing materials and the paper they had been given and shoved it in her bag. She and Adeline both had messenger bags. They just thought it’d be fun to match. She swung her bag over her head and started to the door.

“Hey uh, what’s your next class?” Adeline ran up to Heidi who had just left the room.

“Oh, I have art. What do you have?”

Adeline checked her schedule. “Not art. I have stupid old math.”

Heid felt bad for her friend, but, nothing she could do. “Well, we’ll see each other at lunch. Meet me at the double doors leading to lunch, ok? You won’t be alone. I’ll even introduce you to my friends.”

“Thanks, Heidi.” Adeline sighed.

They both walked off in the other direction. Wait! Adeline didn’t know where Mr. James’s classroom was! She was taking the same class Heidi had left last semester. “Adeline!”

Heidi ran back to her friend, “Hurry before the bell rings, I’ll take you to your class!”

She half walked, half ran to the classroom. Adeline close behind.

“There you go, see ya later!” Heidi ran off again to the art room.

She had made it into the room seconds before the bell rang. There were a lot of unavailable seats. Guess this class wasn’t too popular. Or maybe just an inconvenient time of day or something.

Heidi sat in the middle of the classroom. She pulled out her notebook and started drawing right away. After a bit of time had passed, she looked for the teacher. Sitting at the teacher’s desk was, well, the teacher. But he was asleep.

“Alright then, guess It’s a free period.”

Some of the rowdier students left the classroom to roam the halls. Some started on homework. Really? It’s still the first day. And the other’s must just be keeping quiet. Heidi wanted to check and see how many kids were still in the classroom. But she felt too nervous. What if they think she’s an idiot? Or a stalker prying into their lives?

She tried to listen around the room, but her ears weren’t so great that she could hear every single movement. But she did smell a few other people.

One Meif’wa is in the back, two humans sitting together, probably didn’t want to follow those other kids out, and- there was a familiar scent. One that she only ever smelled during Werewolf class. She couldn’t remember her name, but...

She turned around to see the red Werewolf. She had a sweater that was a deep purplish red. Her backpack was a swirl of different shades of purple. And she didn’t notice Heidi was in the room at all.

She looked around the room. Why would she of all people be in art class? Her tail curled around her legs angrily, she fought to keep her ears perked instead of back.

The Werewolf was writing something down in a notebook. Wait, there were color pencils right beside her, and she seemed more focused than a normal person.

Okay then, the mean, brutal, friendless Werewolf that never talked to anyone unless spoken to or is insulting them. Was drawing. Didn’t see that one coming.

Heidi walked over to the cupboards where the coloring supplies were kept. Shuffling items around a bit, she finally found a set of markers. She turned around, holding the markers awkwardly.

The red Werewolf was staring out of the window now. She could barely see it from here, but she looked like she was drawing a… dragon. Heidi drew dragons all the time. They were one of her favorite things to draw. That doesn’t mean anything. Everyone loves dragons.

Heidi sat down and started coloring her masterpiece. It was a picture of a comic about her brother’s stupid crush on Adeline. Her favorite panel was the last. Where he fainted.

The Meif’wa in the back of the room walked to the front. Passing Heidi she looked at the board. Heidi didn’t want to look up, yet again, she didn’t want to feel like a stalker.

She got out her phone and started texting Adeline.

-Hey, how’s it going? Mr. Pratt fell asleep.-

She waited for a bit. Then,

-Seriously? Wow. that class must be fun. What’s going on?-

-Lol, It’s actually quite boring. But I get to draw, so that’s a plus.-

-Whatcha drawing?-

-I made a comic about monkey being an idiot-

-And Andrew?-

-He’s an idiot, yes, but he’s actually not in the comic.-

-Nice. gotta go, Mr. James just told me to put my phone away-

Heidi set her phone aside and continued on her comic. Thinking about what Adeline had said before. ‘Maybe the two of us could make friends together.’ She liked the idea, but that wasn’t going to happen. Especially at the rate, she was going currently.

Heidi had been heartbroken when she came to school to find Adeline wasn’t going to accompany her. She had always relied on her friend. But Heidi was thrust headfirst into a new life. She had to learn how to live it on her own.

The red Werewolf had gotten up and walked to the whiteboard. Heidi let out a small growl. Her tail sweeping the floor.

Except, she wasn’t living a new life at all. She still had exactly the same friends. She had held back until the second week to even talk to a new person. Well, unless you count that time before school even started

Heidi had just gotten out of the car. She meekly followed her mom to the front doors.

Her parents had requested for her to have a tour of the school. It took the Principle a while, but he had found a volunteer.

Heidi waited awkwardly next to her mom. The Principle was in his office. Waiting with the student who would show her around.

They walked into the room to find exactly what she didn’t expect.

She thought her guide would be a senior or at least a sophomore. She thought that they’d be really rude and annoyed about her being an idiot. She imagined they’d act like those people in the books. But no.

He was really nice. Most other Werewolves Heidi had met didn’t like her. They treated her like an omega for being so nice and weird. But this guy liked her. His hair was a subtle shade of auburn while his eyes were light brown. His ears and tail were a mottled White. He smelled like rain, pine, and chocolate. ... interesting. He just stood there like a raven watching you from a post.

Mr. Wood, the principal had introduced them. “This is Clint Singh. He went to this school for seventh and eighth grade. I thought It’d be best for the first person you meet here to be the same age and species as you.”

Well, he wasn’t wrong. Heidi moved to introduce herself. Clint stepped forward and pointedly sniffed her. “Hi, I guess I’m your assigned person.” He ran out the door, looking back playfully he barked “Come on!”

“Wow! That looks so cool!” Heidi shook her head, turning away the daydream memory thing.

She looked up. The red Werewolf was awkwardly holding an expo marker and string at her drawing of a cat.

“Uh, well, thanks I guess.” She erased her drawing, was she embarrassed? “It’s not one of my better drawings. You can probably do better.”
“Are you kidding? It looked amazing! My drawing skills are limited to stick figures.”

The red Werewolf looked confused. “Didn’t you sign up to draw?”

“Nah,” the Maif’wa shrugged, “I signed up to get good at it.”

“Umm, Well, I’m not the best person to ask. My friend Owen is much better and, You could ask her. She’s better than me.”

Heidi looked up. The red Werewolf had gestured to her and walked off. What?

The red werewolf went back to her seat. The Meif’wa walked over to Heidi.

“Hey, are you two friends? She said you could teach me to draw.”

Heidi’s stomach didn’t just flip. It was ablaze, falling down the narrowest, rockiest cliff, and into a pit of thorns. She took a deep breath and spoke.

“No, we aren’t friends. But if you want me to teach you, I can try.” just then, the bell rang. Sending them off for lunch. “Sorry,” Heidi shoved her stuff in her bag, so fast she decapitated a marker. “I’ll teach you tomorrow I guess.” She ran off to Adeline’s classroom.

Well, you learn something new every day. The biggest bully in the school loved to draw and got embarrassed when complimented for it.

Heidi had gotten used to only hating her brother over Christmas break. Now she had to get used to having enemies.

Adeline was waiting for Heidi outside of her math class. She looked over curiously to Heidi. “Is something wrong?”

Heidi sighed, “No. I’m fine.”

They walked to lunch. “You know? I’m feeling a little confident.” Heidi looked at Adeline

“What do you mean?” Adeline didn’t look confident whatsoever.”

“What if we don’t sit with my friends? They’re not exactly friends anyway.” she stopped for her locker. She had brought a home lunch, nobody liked the school lunch. They started walking again. “I think we can make better ones.”

Heidi could see Clint ahead of them in the crowd
