Description What am I getting into? This is turning into a full blown nostalgia trip. Yoshi's Island was another of my favorites. I also played it over the summer while recovering from my broken leg. Still fun and challenging!

The hours I spent searching for red coins and flowers...

aka the only good Yoshi game I played personally that also wasn't a reskin of something else. If only I had the kind of will to try any of the recent outings, but there was just this odd string of mediocre games in the 2000s that served as a personal block going forward. It's like playing too many dull Sonic games and even then I dunno how I did it. I guess I just wanted to fill some kind of void left by Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

This is still my favorite one, although I greatly enjoyed Yoshi's Story too. The character has just always appealed to me. My love of cute things, dinosaurs and sketchy style perhaps? But I get why you left them alone. Maybe one day curiosity will overcome the doubt? If I ever play one which feels as fresh as Sonic Mania, I will definitely let you know.

Yeah, as a character I still like Yoshi at least, but I'm at the point where I think he got a better deal in Mario games. : P He and his kind were good in the Paper Marios that count, useful in the New SMB series, were fun to play with in Sunshine... and that's probably the most recent experience I have with them. I never really went out of my way to buy Mario games, I always play them at someone else's house. Sunshine is the last one I own that I actually played all the way through. The Thousand Year Door is something I still want to finish, though.

Not that it's saying much but I feel sort of the same way about Toad. In the very few times he was playable, he seemed better in a Mario game than in Wario's Woods or Captain Toad (which is fun, but it's a whole different thing, it might as well be an indie game). Mario Kart is fair game for all characters so it's like a cover everyone's behind exception. You can go on record and say Funky Kong was good in Mario Kart. :v YMMV on the Metal/Pink Gold characters, though...

I can agree with that. Yoshi truly shines as a ride creature, but I still can't help playing his other games. I enjoy their little challenges here and there, especially when aiming eggs at tricky targets. He's still my go-to in all the side games, and one of my top 3 in Smash.
Mariokart is one of the few games where I show the other characters some love.
