Description Done for a contest. The idea was to create a twist on a pokemon if it lived in a different environment. I chose to do a poison/psychic type girafarig living in a poison swamp.

This was an undertaking. I did it all in pixels with a mix of solids and a pointillism sort of style. I'm pleased with the end result, even if the whole thing took around 10 hours. All those dots...

I've never thought of "digital pointillism" before. I feel the final effect was well worth the time. While the new colours are a little garish for a "living" creature (but nice in their own right, heh) the creature is still clearly a girafarig. I like this a lot party because it presents a new view of a species I like. And I like your live lines and its friendly expression.

Wow this is great both the pokemon and the background are very detailed. I wouldve thought Girafarigs hoofs wouldve adapted more for swamplife but thats just me being nitpicky . A great result for all your efforts.

I haven't been too keen on a lot of the type-changes because they seem too obvious.. take a canine PokΓ©mon and put it in the Arctic okay. Boring :<

THIS however is so original <3 I love Girafarig, and this is a very interesting take on it. I love the colours you chose, and the tail aaw xD little things like editing the horns are a nice touch. It has a detailled, vibrant background and - wow! - the shading is incredible. It's like pixel art on a big scale - beautiful pointilism.

Wow <3 definitely one of the best entries.

Gosh.. that's just lovely and yay! Girafarig! Adorable little mon that doesn't get enough love and look how spunky he is here! Very pretty and nicely posed and gosh.. all those dots, I seriously don't know how you can do that. The effect is lovely though and yes, very very nice. I hope you do well! Well, you should really, but yes, be proud and happy!

Wow, I definitely love this one! I can't say who I'll vote for until the contest ends and all of the entries are in, but for now this one is most likely.

For one, I love your choice of an unpopular Pokemon. It's amazing how relatively few of the hundreds of Pokemon seem to dominate, so it always sits right with me to see artwork of a less popular one. Additionally, I like that you gave it attributes of a somewhat unpopular type, poison. Compared to psychic and dark and fire and whatnot, poison never gets enough love. Also, the alterations you made to the Girafarig to express its adaption are great. The colors really look poisonous and are nicely camoflaged to the surroundings.

Aside from all of that, this thing has artistic merit like no one's business! Pixel art is challenging, but when done right, simply breath-taking. You've done it. This really looks fabulous. The sharp, clean, bright pixels give this such an eye-catching and professional look. The painstaking pointilism gives a painterly contrast. And the detailed, scenic background really ties the entire thing together.

Truly, truly wonderful. I really admire the pure, un-adulterated awesomeness that is this artwork. Whether you do well in the contest or not (and I suspect you will!), you've made something to be proud of.

Wow, thanks! I really appreciate all your feedback. I really did give this one my all, and it's nice to know that others appreciate it.

Even if girafarig isn't that popular overall, it's one of my absolute favorites. It was either do this, or a poison type growlithe. I'm glad I went with this one.

This is all pixel? Wow! I don't know much about pixel art, but it seems you used a larger than 1x1 brush for the shading? I think it looks nice.

Sharulia In reply to JRJay [2008-05-30 16:27:36 +0000 UTC]

Yeah! I used several different size brushes. They get smaller towards the back of the image. Pixel art is so much fun to do, but doing it like this took forever.

This is a beautiful idea C: I love the dotty shading and all the nice colors you can see. There's so much detail in that background Cx

The lineart is very smooth, too :3
