"Immortality."Tyler turned quickly to Silver as her talkative nature drew him out of his thoughts again.
"What?"
"You treat it like a bad thing." Her eyes left him momentarily as she focused on navigating the forest floor. She stepped delicately over a tangle of roots before looking at him again and continuing: "Veyndra said that the Kalestar were blessed with immortal powers. It defined them as a people. Why do you resent it so much?"
Tyler grimaced at her ignorant words. Silver had explained the same thing to him only a few years before. She had been the mentor then. It had been her burden to reveal the three Immortal curses to him. Now she was learning from her old apprentice--the one who had destroyed her dream form along with all of her memories of Aelevar. Now it was his burden to teach her everything he had caused her to forget.
"Tyler."
Silver's hazel eyes burned with curiosity as she studied his face. Then she turned away, the soft, injured look from three months ago returning to her eyes.
"You don't have to tell me."
The surprised arch of one eyebrow was the only reaction she got. Tyler was not accustomed to her so readily accepting defeat.
"Don't tell me," she repeated, more confidently now. "I'll figure it out on my own."

There's a lot of melancholy to be taken in from the dialogue. Both from Silver not knowing what transpired in the memories she's missing and for him in being asked so from her of all people.
Also I didn't know (or realize) that Tyler had been her apprentice in the past, too! That only adds to the sorrow at pay here.
...As a sidenote, it's funny how I mentioned both the hoodie under armor and the immortality thing in the other piece and this one addresses/answers both questions at once.

Yes, Silhouette saved Tyler from a Xalar attack on Earth and brought him to Aelevar where she helped train him to defend himself. He not only became her friend but also learned her tricks, which is why it came down to him to destroy her when she lost control and that whole mess with the slaughter happened.

You would think so, yeah. Aelevar's Immortals tend to embrace it with pride, but they're not quite as immortal as the other races suppose them to be.
